The Holidays are Murder
Just in time for the holiday season, Kate Kingsbury has released her latest in the Pennyfoot Hotel series, Ringing in Murder. It's the winter holiday season in the early 1900's and everyone at the Pennyfoot Hotel, on England's south coast, is full of cheer. The staff rush about to decorate and prepare the various feasts for the holidays. The owner and manager, Cecily Sinclair Baxter, also has the ...

No Clue at the Inn (Pennyfoot Hotel Mysteries)11 reviews
Kate Kingsbury

Berkley, 2005

Thanks to Kingsbury...
I enjoyed this book, as I have all of Kingsbury's works. The reviewers who condemn Ms. Kingsbury, are inaccurate at best. This book is not sloppily written, or poorly researched. I wouild suggest that before they pick up their poison pen to write a review, that they do a little "research" on their own, and print the facts. Bravo, to Ms. Kingsbury, for her delicious rebuttal!

Slay Bells (A Special Pennyfoot Hotel Myst)4 reviews
Kate Kingsbury

Berkley, 2007

Nice Old-fashioned Cozy Mystery
Cecily Sinclair Baxter is annoyed when Sid Porter fails to show up at the children's party where he was hired to play Father Christmas. Her annoyance soon turns to horror when it's discovered that one of her footmen fell to his death from the roof where he was apparently helping Sid. Even worse, Sid, dressed in his Father Christmas costume, is found stabbed to death in her chimney. With the ...

Shrouds of Holly1 review
Kate Kingsbury

Berkley Prime Crime, 2007

Shrouds of Holly
Truly one of the worse "murder" mysteries I have ever read. The setting in England is bogus to say the best and the author has no idea of the era or location of her book. This is so sadly written by an American without a clue about England, the era of the book and I was so disappointed in the plot. I am not English (for Americans who wish to complain) but this is laughable. The author should ...

Shrouds of Holly (Pennyfoot Hotel Mysteries)6 reviews
Kate Kingsbury

Berkley Trade, 2007

Christmas Cozy at the Pennyfoot Hotel or it is Country Club?
Kate Kingsbury is one of my very favorite cozy mystery authors. Shrouds of Holly finds Baxter and Samuel out in the woods looking for holly to help finish the decorating for the Christmas parties to take place at the Pennyfoot. They fail to return, but the horse and cart return with a dead body in it. Samuel finally shows up but the search for poor Baxter leads to alot of sinister activity ...

Death with Reservations (Pennyfoot Hotel Mystery Series , No 10)4 reviews
Kate Kingsbury

Berkley, 1998

The best yet!
I have read all the Pennyfoot Hotel mysteries having stumbled across them in the library. They are delightful - like a good cream cake and hot cup of tea in the local tea shoppe. Ms. Kingsbury depicts her characters in such a way as to make the reader truly care or revile them - my favorite to revile being the Vicar, who is hopeless. The local constabulary is also without lightbulbs. I hope to ...

Such an enjoyable escape
I have read all of Kate Kingsbury's WW2 series and find them so relaxing and full of the most wonderful escapist writing. This last one maintained the high standard and I look forward to the next

This delightful cozy mystery, set in World War II rural England, is the latest in the author's Manor House series. Elizabeth Compton, lady of the village manor house, has a heavy burden of responsibility. Not only does she have the duty of running the great house under trying wartime conditions, but the residents of Sitting Marsh depend on her for everything from a cheerful visit to solving ...

Service for Two (A Pennyfoot Hotel Mystery)2 reviews
Kate Kingsbury

Berkley, 1994

Okay, so it's out of print...
What a shame that this book is no longer readily available. It's definitely one of my favorites in the whole Pennyfoot Hotel series, and I'm a diehard fan. The mystery itself is one of the best plots in the series. Someone has been using the Pennyfoot Hotel to traffic stolen jewels, and now the body of a notorious criminal from London winds up in a coffin--but at the wrong funeral. In ...

LOVE THE ENTIRE MANOR HOUSE SERIES!
I OWN EVERY BOOK IN THE KATE KINGSBURY MANOR HOUSE SERIES. I TRUELY LOVED EACH AND EVERY ONE! I ENJOYED THE AUTHOR'S MAIN CHARACTER LADY ELISABETH. THE ONLY NEGATIVE WAS THAT THE SERIES WAS ABRUPTED ENDED BY THE PUBLISHING COMPANY. I WOULD HAVE CONTINUED TO PURCHASE ANY BOOK THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN ADDED TO THE SERIES. SUPER RELAXING FUN READS! I SPOKE WITH THE AUTHOR, KATE KINGSBURY BY E-MAIL. SHE ...

Ring for Tomb Service (Pennyfoot Hotel Mysteries)1 review
Kate Kingsbury

Berkley, 1997

This book was worth the wait.
Finally, the most recent installment of Kate Kingsbury's "Pennyfoot Hotel" series is out. Those of us who have been following the series have been waiting anxiously for this one, wondering what will happen next. Will Baxter come back? Will he ever sit down in Cecily's presence? Indeed, does he even have a first name? The one possible flaw in this book is that too much time is spent teasing the ...

For Whom Death Tolls3 reviews
Kate Kingsbury

Berkley, 2002

Mystery, Humor and Romance
An excellent book, with just the right combination of mystery, humor and romantic hints along with a village you can easily picture. The characters all have distinct personalities and quirks that you come to love , along with a mysterious murder which the heroine, a mature woman coping with changes in her life due to WW2, is quite capable of handling. A touch of romance for more than one of the ...

Berried Alive: A Manor House Mystery7 reviews
Kate Kingsbury

Wheeler Publishing, 2004

If Kate writes it, buy it!
This series as well as her Pennyfoot Hotel series is (and I hate this word) awesome. I have never read a complete series before I found the two of these, now I have read both...you will not be disappointed. It (they) may take place in Edwardian and war time England, but the characters are so 'today'. And, get this. I sent an e-mail to Mrs. Kingsbury, which she actually answered. One of her ...

Room with a Clue (Pennyfoot Hotel Mystery)1 review
Kate Kingsbury

Berkley, 1993

Great new series!
Cecily Sinclair is the owner of the Pennyfoot Hotel, a charming little place on the seaside of England. Her husband, recently deceased, has left her to care for their much beloved little hotel, recently discovered by the London upper-crust for their weekend jaunts to the seashore in the summer of 1906. When Lady Eleanor Danbury's battered body is discovered in the shrubbery, she is thought to be ...

Maid to Murder (Pennyfoot Hotel Mystery Series, 12)3 reviews
Kate Kingsbury

Berkley, 1999

Cozy with an Edge.
In the final book of this mystery series, Cecily and Baxter have to solve the most sinister, frightening crime the Pennyfoot has ever had. Maids are being murdered in the hotel and the clues are puzzling. As always, there are enough twist and turns to keep you guessing and enough activities and characters to keep you entertained. Trust me, you will not be disappointed. I have read every book ...

Grounds for Murder (Pennyfoot Hotel Mysteries)1 review
Kate Kingsbury

Berkley, 1995

An important book in the series
For those who enjoy the excellent Pennyfoot Hotel mystery series by Kate Kingsbury (and new readers too!), GROUNDS FOR MURDER is a must-read. Not only for the mystery itself; what's excellent about this latest installment is, as always, the development of the characters! A new maid, Doris, is introduced, but there's something very peculiar about her. Could she be the link in the latest ...

Fire When Ready: A Manor House Mystery3 reviews
Kate Kingsbury

Wheeler Publishing, 2005

A fun to read amateur sleuth historical mystery
During World War II in England, the villagers have seen too much change in too short a time to want any further disruptions in their way of life. Lady Elizabeth Hartleigh Compton of the Manor House subtly soothes ruffled feathers of the locals, tired by food rationing, the invasion of the Americans quartered in British homes, and the curfews. Even Elizabeth the great cannot get the residents to ...

Dying Room Only (Pennyfoot Hotel Mystery Series)3 reviews
Kate Kingsbury

Berkley, 1998

A neat addition to this cozy historical series
In 1910 England, there is plenty of excitement in the air as the Pennyfoot Hotel hosts the annual Spring Ball. This year, the ball's visiting celebrity and entertainer is the Great Denmarric who is going to perform his renowned magic show. The Great Denmarric's performance is top rate, but when he performs "a death defying feat" and opens the magic box that is supposed to contain his ...
