Good as a reference book, not a hands on learning guide
I just ordered this book to prepare me for the Microsoft certification exams. I've just flipped through it, but I don't think I'll be able to use it. It has very detailed sections on how to do things within Word, but I need more of a workbook. I expected the CD to contain exercises, but upon inspection it's just a PDF version of the book and some "extras." If you want a workbook version with ...

Home But Not Alone - A Guide for ANY Stay At Home Parent
Home But Not Alone is a complete, easy-to-read handbook for the work-at-home-with-kids parent. The suggestions and ideas are sensible, straightforward, and useable. The worksheets, that I almost didn't want to complete because "I don't have the time", help focus your thinking and decision-making. This book has been very useful to me in setting up my home business in addition to being a ...

Excellent Resource
This book has just about everything you need to prepare for the MOUS certification. I love that the book explains just about every detail there is to word. It taught me some very useful tricks with Word. I do have one gripe I wish the section on VBA was a little longer. But overall I think that this is a great book.

The lifetime of one of our greatest writers
I first heard of this book in a 1927 review of it by Dorothy Parker (available in the 1944 edition of The Portable Dorothy Parker, as well as subsequent editions I believe, including the 1973 one). Parker's review is beautifully apt. She says, "I think that the Journal of Katherine Mansfield is the saddest book I have ever read. Here, set down in exquisite fragments, is the record of six lonely ...

What do you want to know (really, really know) about Word 2007?
What do you want to know about Word 2007? If all you want to know is how to click the buttons on the new fluent ribbon interface, then any book on Word 2007 will probably meet your needs. In that case, I recommend whichever book will look nicest sitting next to the other books on your bookshelf. If you want to know how styles and themes work (and how to exploit them), or when to customize ...

It provides essential knowledge and a broad overview of how to organize, how to proceed, and how to avoid problems. I have now ordered several copies for board members. Best book thus far on Harding's administration
Robert K. Murray analyzes the presidency of Warren G. Harding. In this balanced work Murray effectively illustrates that Harding was not the bumbling idiot that he has been made out to be, in fact he was rather intelligient and could have been brilliant if not for his lack of discipline. Murray dispels the myths that Harding was chosen as a candidate in a "smoke filled room" and that he, along ...

This book was great for me because I am a beginner, and I needed step-by-step instructions. It was easy to understand- not too wordy. This book is a must-buy for people interested in starting digital scrapbooking.

Good Overview for Decision Makers
This book is a good overview of what's new in Office 2003. While certainly not for those who need step-by-step written instructions on how to use the features of Office, it is very helpful for those considering migrating to the latest MS Office system. For Dilbert, you can use the business examples to convince the boss to go for the upgrade. For the pointy-haired guy, a few minutes reading this ...

Book too basic
Cover of book indicates it is for all levels. Actually the book is very basic and does not adequately go into the advanced features of PowerPoint. I teach PP and need procedures for customizing presentations and resolving problems caused by students random pointing and clicking. The only reason I bought it sight unseen was I could not find a Que book and the publication date was the latest of ...

Thoughtful and descriptive prose
Within the stories of this collection, which the author considered "immature," there is some great descriptive prose around German characteristics and perspective which can even be said to live on in present Germany. Most impressive is Mansfield's gift in rummaging about in the German psyche. While some of the stories may seem melodramatic, e.g., "The Child-Who-Was-Tired," there are some very ...
