Target Tokyo: The Story of the Sorge Spy Ring4 reviews
Gordon W. Prange, Donald M. Goldstein, ...

Mcgraw-Hill Book Co (Mm), 1985

Why is this book out of print???
This is an excellent account of the Sorge spy ring that operated in Tokyo prior to and during WW II. Richard Sorge was an NKVD agent (predecessor to the KGB) who was sent to find out if Japan was going to attack the USSR. His mission was a first rate success. He was able to tell Stalin that the Japanese militarists were going to attack to the south, against the East Indies, Philippines, and ...

At Dawn We Slept: The Untold Story of Pearl Harbor43 reviews
Gordon W. Prange

Mcgraw-Hill, 1981

Thorough
The best book, hands down, for information on Pearl Harbor. It will take a long time to read, but is very interesting. Miracle at Midway by the same author is just as good. Excellent pictures and hundreds of references quoted, along with personal interviews. I've seen no other book is as thorough in its approach to the subject.

Miracle at Midway32 reviews
Gordon W. Prange

McGraw - Hill, 1982

A Good Sequel
Gordon Prange devoted the second half of his life to researching and writing about the attack on Pearl Harbor. He spent seven years in Japan during the occupation collecting material on this operation. He is the author of the book "Tora, Tora, Tora" and the screenplay for the film of the same name. His masterpiece on the attack is "At Dawn We Slept." He died before he could finish this book ...

God's Samurai: Lead Pilot at Pearl Harbor (The Warriors)8 reviews
Katherine V. Dillon, Donald M. Goldstein, ...

Potomac Books Inc., 2003

A materfully written and truly inspirational book!
A friend of mine introduced me to this book in April of this year. He told me it was unlike any book about the Pacific war that he had ever read. Although skeptical at first, I sill went ahead and purchased the book. I left it on my book-shelve for several months and forgot all about it. As I began packing up in July to move I noticed this book again, so I picked it up and began reading ...

Amelia: A Life of the Aviation Legend (Potomac's Paperback Classics)5 reviews
Donald M. Goldstein, Katherine V. Dillon

Potomac Books Inc., 2007

Amelia: a woman of independence!!
(...) As soon as I started to read this book I couldn't set it down. It was really and truly inspirational, it shows you don't have to be a man, to do something thats considered a man's job, all you need, is determination and to have your heart in soul in it... but most of all do it for fun, do it becasue you love it! I read a lot of books and I know that you always have something to say or a ...

Fading Victory: The Diary of Admiral Matome Ugaki, 1941-19454 reviews

Naval Institute Press, 2008

A unique account of the Pacific War
Anyone who calls themselves a true historian of the Pacific War should read this book. There are a variety of things that make this "Fading Victory" unique and important. First and foremost, Ugaki was one of Japan's leading military men and he was privy to the Japanese planning of much of the Pacific War. His mistakes, conceptions of the wartime situation, and commentary on the Allied ...

The Williwaw War: The Arkansas National Guard in the Aleutians in World War II3 reviews
Donald M. Goldstein, Katherine V. Dillon

Collaboratively researched and written by Donald M. Nuts! The Battle of the Bulge: The Story and Photographs (America Goes to War)3 reviews
J. Michael Wenger, Katherine V. Dillon, ...

Potomac Books Inc., 1997

America's Costliest Battle
The losses of American soldiers was the greatest in US military history. With all of the attention of D-Day this may be the forgotten battle of WW2 in Europe. The authors take us to the sights of this most gruesome and costly battle. It was at the BULGE that Hitler and Company made their last stand to protect the FATHERLAND.

The Way It Was - Pearl Harbor: The Original Photographs (America Goes to War)4 reviews
J. Michael Wenger, Katherine V. Dillon, ...

Potomac Books Inc., 1995

If You Read Only 2 Books On Pearl Harbor, This Has to Be One
I just finished "At Dawn We Slept" and was very impressed with it. I then saw the movie "Pearl Harbor". On a coffee stop at the bookstore, I saw this book, and bought it on the good impression of a similar volume about D-Day by the same editors. The coffee was just OK, but the book is tremendous. This book, as did the D-Day issue (see my review if you're interested), presents original photos tied ...

The Pearl Harbor Papers: Inside the Japanese Plans8 reviews

Potomac Books, 1999

Excellent appendix to At Dawn We Slept
This book can be considered an appendix to Gordon W. Prange's "At Dawn We Slept, the untold story of Pearl Harbor." As an appendix, it is not a story but a collection of whatever significant material was found in the Prange archives related to the Pearl Harbor attack. As a result, it contains maps, diaries, comments, naval statistics, and so on, which are very helpful for the military specialist. ...

D-Day Normandy: The Story and the Photographs (America at War Series)3 reviews
Donald M. Goldstein, Katherine V. Dillon, ...

Potomac Books, 1999

If A Picture is Worth a 1000 Words......
Photos and more photos, that's what you have in this book. There must be a thousand of them, but I didn't count them. This book takes the reader by the hand, in a bit of elementary school field trip fashion, and literally walks through Operation Overlord. The text is not over anyone's head, and always relates to the photos. The photos then tell the story, along with the captions which point ...

The Vietnam War: The Story and Photographs (Ausa Institute of Land Warfare Book)
Donald M. Goldstein, Katherine V. Dillon, ...

Potomac Books, 1999

New in paperback, this is the photographic history of the war that tore apart the country's spirit. Using more than 450 U.S. and Vietnamese official and personal photos, this book illustrates and describes the battles, weapons, emotions, heroism, and pain of this most controversial of American wars, from its earliest beginnings to the fall of Saigon in 1975.

The Pacific War Papers: Japanese Documents of World War II3 reviews

Potomac Books Inc., 2006

The Source Material for a Lot of Books
It seems that the release of secret, or at least previously unknown, documents about World War II will never end. At least not in our lifetimes. These documents were collected by Gordon Prange while working for the Military History Section of the American forces that occupied Japan. Afterwards Prange with the assistance of Goldstein and Dillon wrote several books on World War II. In this ...

Pearl Harbor: The Verdict of History7 reviews
Gordon W. Prange, Donald M. Goldstein, ...

Diane Pub Co, 1986

Totally Refutes the "Revisionist" Viewpoint
Over the years, there has developed a "revisionist" group of historians who claimed FDR Knew in advance about the impending attack on Pearl Harbor and he did nothing to stop it. In this excellent book by Gordon Prange, this somewhat questionable viewpoint is thoroughly destroyed. One of the revisionists' claims is that the radio stations on the West Coast were able to track the Japanese fleet ...
