Blackthorn Winter: A Murder Mystery1 review
Kathryn Reiss

Harcourt Paperbacks, 2007

Courtesy of Teens Read Too
Fans of the Nancy Drew stories will enjoy this latest book by Kathryn Reiss. BLACKTHORN WINTER is a well-written "who done it?" mystery that leaves you wondering until the very end. Blackthorn is a perfect place for a mystery to take place. It is a damp, gloomy town in England, an artist's colony with some very interesting residents. All the residents seem to be busybodies, knowing a little ...

Creative
I've heard of "gentle readers" but this author is a "gentle writer". She has taken a subject that could be horrifying for kids and made it a "spooky adventure". When I was a little girl I had a metal dollhouse with little rubber people and hard plastic furniture. To me it was a mansion with soft contours and real life. As an adult I love the giant dollhouse at the Smithsonian and reading ...

Sweet Miss Honeywell's Revenge: A Ghost Story5 reviews
Kathryn Reiss

Harcourt Paperbacks, 2005

Super ghost story/mystery
This is a frightening story that unfolds quickly. The main character is Zibby, a 12-year-old girl. Zibby gets help from several of her friends, as she discovers more and more about her haunted antique doll house. I liked the fact that the kids asked hard questions about the weird things that were happening to them. Doll-sized ghosts, people-sized ghosts, possession, smoke, fire, lightening. The ...

Another Great Book
This is another fine example of Kathryn Reiss's writing. I think it was a great book. I read atleast 4 times because I loved it so much. I really hope Kathryn Reiss becomes well-known. She has a great imagination and sense of literature. This classic tale about a pheonix rising from the ashes is a great story for young and older people to enjoy. I'd give it 10 stars if I could.
