A Real Contribution to Grounded Theory
As someone who writes about grounded theory and supervises PhD students using grounded theory, I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this book to them and anyone else using grounded theory. It is infinitely superior to the Strauss and Corbin book which in my opinion is too restrictive and makes it difficult for graduate students to apply grounded theory. Charmaz also very cleverly ...

Grounded theory is the most popular genre of qualitative research used in the health professions and is widely used elsewhere in the research world. Very helpful
I am a novice grounded theory researcher. I have read Glaser, Strauss, Srauss and Corbin, Charmaz and Clarke's books. Every time I need to bring it all together I can rely on this book to show me how. I would not substitute it for the others but it has been indispensable in trying to figure out what the heck I am trying to do. There is always a different perspective that is useful in bringing it ...
Health, Illness, and Healing: Society, Social Context, and Self: An Anthology

Interesting, informative, not too clinical
This book was required for a class but honestly, most of the articles were fun to read. Particular qualatative studies on the Rigors of Kidney Dialasis and the article on depression were especially enjoyable. I recommend it for anyone in college who plans to be a doctor. It is important to get a sociological view of medicine. The sociological view gives more of a bird's eye view of ...
The Unknown Country: Death in Australia, Britain and the USA
1 review
Palgrave Macmillan

Interesting cross-cultural sociology.
In this series of essays, writers in Australia, the United States, and Britain find show that there is not a "Western" way of death shared by all, but major variations reflecting the different experiences and cultures of the people. The Aussies' tough stoicism, the Americans' denial, the Brits' reserve not surprisingly find expression in the death experience, as in life. Elements such as ...
