Crash Course (Truman Kicklighter Mysteries)1 review
Kathy Hogan Trocheck

HarperTorch, 1998

Good sexagerian
Unlike the Garrity books this is a thriller not a mystery. We know who did the murder from the beginning and we are given some of the story from the viewpoint of the villains. Kicklighter and Jackleen are great characters and there's much insight into being a retired male and someone living on minimum wage. The Fountain of Youth Hotel and Bondurant Motors are well done. My trouble was with the ...

Irish Eyes: A Callahan Garrity Mystery16 reviews
Kathy Hogan Trocheck

Thorndike Press, 2000

We Need This Series To Continue
I've read all of the Callahan Garrity books.....twice! I love the charachters in them and the plot twists are all great. I am always unable to guess "who-done-it" and really don't want to put the books down while reading. This book was no exception. This one was very entertaining and a great mystery. But, is it to be the last of the series? I sure do hope not. It ends in a way that could ...

Strange Brew7 reviews

HarperCollins e-books, 2008

A Cut Above
This series may be considered as cozies, but they have a distinct edge. The characters are fun, but also well developed, and the plots are decent. The characters and their personalities are complex. The books improve as they go along. I was panting for the last one, "Irish Eyes." I even bought the hardback. Am waiting for the next one. Begin at the beginning if you can, but not necessary.

Heart Trouble3 reviews

HarperCollins e-books, 2008

Doughnuts and crack
I came to this one after "Every Dead Nanny" and "Happy Never After" so for once I'm reading a series in the right order. I thought this was the best of the three. The plot is believable from beginning almost to the end (I never quite buy those heroine-save-in-the-nick-of-time scenes but they seem obligatory in this female private eye genre which is a descendant of romantic suspense). It unfolds ...

Midnight Clear17 reviews
Kathy Hogan Trocheck

Robert Hale Ltd, 2000

EXCELLENT HOLIDAY MYSTERY
I deliberately waited over a year to purchase and read Midnight Clear by my favorite mystery author, Kathy Hogan Trocheck. I've always paced myself with her books because there aren't that many to begin with plus it's been over 3 years since KHT last wrote one. I hope that she is working on something new, because all of us Callahan Garrity fans are anxiously awaiting the next mystery featuring ...

Every Crooked Nanny17 reviews

HarperCollins e-books, 2008

Every Crooked Nanny Book
I love all this author's books! The Callahn Garrity series is one of my favorites as far as mysteries go. I love the characters, especially those working for her at her House Mouse cleaning business!

To Live & Die in Dixie6 reviews

HarperCollins e-books, 2008

Tight plotting - generally a good read
Try this author. She does not have the high public profile of some other female authors but she stands up there with the Graftons and Paretskys. This author has a lovely writing style and has created warm, believable characters. The mystery is compelling but I found myself wanting and enjoying more the dialogue and interaction between the characters.

Happy Never After6 reviews

HarperCollins e-books, 2008

Fun, fun, fun
Snappy dialog, whiz-bang action sequences, and a lovably flawed heroine: a perfect recipe for a fizzy, frothy concoction of mystery and pop music business primer. The "first tier" characters have plenty of sizzle amongst themselves, but things really shine when the supporting cast shows up for a birthday party or a housecleaning expedition. (You don't want me to say more than that, truly.) ...

Heart Trouble1 review
Kathy Hogan Trocheck

Garrity Got Me Again !
This is the third book in the C.G. series that I have read and i really enjoyed it. I really enjoy these books because Kathy tells it like it is .I liked the part where she talks about how hard it is to defend yourself when you are accused of being a racist even when your not and also the way alot of people today use it to make the news. The relationship between Edna and Callahan is great and ...

Carolyn G. Hart presents Malice Domestic (4)1 review
Carolyn G. Hart, Ralph McInerny, ...

Pocket Books, 1995

THRILLING!!!!!!!! :):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):)
It was great! It had the perfecct balance of the two most important things: mystery, and suspence. You may like this book, or you may LOVE it, I happen to be one that loves it, it was cunning, and abouve all, smartly written. As a college student, I was scared to receive sleep that nite! :):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):) HI dad!

Lickety-Split1 review
Kathy Hogan Trocheck

HarperTorch, 1997

Florida Geriatricks
Some interesting stuff about dog racing, although Trocheck does not sound an enthusiast for the sport. Poverty-stricken retired journalist Truman Kicklighter and nineteen year old waitress Jackleen are great characters, and so are some of the others (although a few stereotypes). My problem was with the plot. The central idea of a computer program so certain to produce wins at the dog races that ...

Homemade Sin (Callahan Garrity Mysteries)11 reviews
Kathy Hogan Trocheck

Avon, 1995

Anything But Homemade
Homemade Sin is anything but homemade. This mystery is definitely penned by a professional. Trocheck knows people--all classes of people. Her characters come alive, relationships ring true, and the dialogue works. And that gal Callahan is something else. I'd advise you not to mess with her.
