Beloved exiles1 review
Agnes (Newton) Keith

Little, Brown, 1972

Disappointed
I was disappointed with this fiction attempt by Agnes Keith. Sexually suggestive at times, hard to separate her own life story from this made-up heroine. Adds more insight to the Indonesian area, but not anything I wanted more details about.

Bare feet in the palace (An Atlantic Monthly Press book)1 review
Agnes Newton Keith

Little, Brown, 1955

Soul-Stirring Account of True Freedom in PostWW2 Philippines
"Bare Feet in the Palace" is an excellent account of the people of the Philippines during the transition time after WWII, (1948-1952), as they became a truly independent country. It describes post-war Manila as well as the other areas of the country. There is a very heart-stirring account of the first free election which had me looking for the tissue box!! It makes you want to read it to all ...

Huey: Spirit of the Panther4 reviews
David Hilliard

Basic Books, 2006

good for the neophyte
this is a good book for someone that doesn't know jack about the panthers. it touches on all the main points. i think fredericka newton puts a little too much dirty laundry out there, but then again, i didn't have to live with huey. i think she's earned the right to say whatever she damn well pleases. the main point for someone that doesn't know anything, isn't to judge the panthers, but to ...

Land below the wind (Armed Services edition)3 reviews
Agnes Newton Keith

Armed Services Editions, 1944

Good, clean, very humorous book.
Land Below the Wind by Agnes Keith is the first and one of the more famous books by this very successful author. Set in 1939 North Borneo (now the Malaysian state of Sabah) it autobiographically chronicles life of an American wife of a British official. Keith relates the culture and circumstances of Sabah so well that my Sabah born and raised wife gives it two thumbs up. We have now read ...

CHILDREN OF ALLAH.1 review
Agnes Newton Keith

Michael Joseph, 1966

Children of Allah
Born to an arid and denuded land, Libyans all their lives are ruled by sea and Sahara, by coming of rain or of drought, by sandstorm or flood, by harvesting of cereals, or by famine for their flocks; and now in the century of Sahara wealth, by the flowing of oil from their sands. They feast all night and fast from the dawn for one month every year, and pray toward Mecca five times daily, and ...

Asperger Syndrome - A Love Story1 review
Keith Newton, Sarah Hendrickx

Jessica Kingsley Pub, 2007

Great insight to the AS mind!
This is a great book. It's funny and charming and honest. I love the bluntness that Kevin exhibits (even if we're just going to attribute it to AS.) For example: S: Darling, why won't you marry me? K: Because you might have an aberration and I might want to get rid of you. If we were married I would have to give you half my stuff, and I wouldn't want to do that. Ha ha ha! Awesome.

White man returns1 review
Agnes Newton Keith

M. Joseph, 1952

Epilogue
This book contains the post-War Borneo memoirs of Agnes Keith. Keith, who had published a popular book, Land Beneath the Wind, about life as the wife of a colonial official in Northern Borneo in 1939, returned to Borneo in time to be interned by the Japanese. Her experiences in the Japanese prison camps were the topic of her second book, Three Came Home. This third book is about her return to ...

Three came home (MB)9 reviews
Agnes Newton Keith

Macfadden-Bartell, 1971

Powerful
This book contains the wartime memoirs of Agnes Keith. In 1939, Keith published a book "Land Beneath the Wind," describing her life as the wife of a British colonial official in Northern Borneo. She and her husband Harry were on home leave in North America in 1939 when she finished writing the book. However, Harry was called back early to Borneo from his leave because of the war clouds on the ...
