Hammer: One Big Lie1 review
Kelley Jones, Dana Lewis, ...

Dark Horse, 1998

Holding back the stars
Kelley Jones should have gotten more recognition for his work in the wonderful world of Cthuluian lore. Here we have yet another adaptation of H.P.'s brainchild being meshed into popular culture, and Kelley doesn't simply give you yet another boring take we've seen a million times over. Anyone who likes their monsters loathsome, their heroes a bit deranged, and their works of art Lovecraftian ...

The Absolute Sandman, Vol. 152 reviews
Neil Gaiman

Vertigo, 2006

Beautiful, and A Great Price
First of all, I will admit that this was my first time reading the Sandman, when I got this version. I was drawn in and the $70-ish price tag is, as well as way cheaper than you'll find at book stores, a great deal. The amount of content is staggering, and even if you've read all the Sandman comics, the extras are pretty great as well. If you're not sure if you'll enjoy the series, go out to a ...

The Absolute Sandman, Vol. 220 reviews
Neil Gaiman

Vertigo, 2007

The Absolute Sandman, Vol. 2
Sandman was unquestionably the finest piece of work to come out of comics in the 1990's. Neil Gaiman managed to craft an entire universe within its pages, a comprehensive mythology so complete and flawless in its execution that, at times, I find it hard to believe what I'm reading was the work of one mind. It's a conglomeration of all the world's mythologies, and he uses this tremendous microcosm ...

Batman: Haunted Gotham (Batman)1 review
Doug Moench

DC Comics, 2009

Da Boyz returned in 2000 for this great set of books!
I was delighted when Da Boyz were on Bats for regular monthly work, but they shine when they're doing supernatural stuff. This time, they fully captured the feel of monsters, hell and what the "romantics" imagined a "darker" Transylvania would be. I highly recommend picking anything up by these guys! Including this one, of course!

The Dark Horse Book Of The Dead4 reviews
Mike Mignola, Evan Dorkin, ...

Dark Horse, 2005

Nine Cautionary Tales of the Risen and Hungry Dead
Anthologies are almost always a mixed bag of tricks, the alchemical products of well-intentioned editors possessed by some inspired thematic vision that compels them to collect a range of exemplary work under a single banner, ideally providing maximum bang for a reader's buck. With 94 pages of content, including an interesting 11-page prose piece from Robert E. Howard lightly seasoned with a ...

Conan: Book Of Thoth (Conan (Graphic Novels))5 reviews
Kurt Busiek, Len Wein, ...

Dark Horse, 2006

Who the hell put those reviews (obviously from another book) here?
This is supposed to be for reviews of the Book of Thoth, not the regular Conan serie. So, having cleared that, I must say that this is one of the most true to Howard's vision comic book stories ever; from the rich narrative to the magnificent images & the surprising conclusion (at least fro Thoth-Amon who had quite a shock from the reward he was expecting) The Kelley Jones art is magnificent ...

Tales of the Multiverse: Batman: Vampire: Batman: Vampire1 review
Doug Moench, Kelley Jones

Titan Books Ltd, 2008

Gothic Gotham
This is not your daddy's Batman. Kelley Jones is known for his work on horror books, and he brings Gothinc to Gotham. This book collects the Batman/Vampire Trilogy, Batman Red Rain, Batman Blood Storm and Batman Crimson Mist. The art is scary good. Jones is not going for realism here. His art will shock you. It will scare you. A criminal coming face to face with Jones' Batman would cower. ...

BATMAN BLOODSTORM.7 reviews
Doug Moench, Kelley Jones, ...

DC Comics, 1995

Angst, Pathos, Craving, Alienation and Power
This is the best book of the trilogy (I bought the other books because of this one). This book summarizes the personal hell of one man, addicted and alone, unable not to bring death to those he loves. It is about conflict, guilt, isolation, alienation ...about heroism in its rawest, truest form. I first read this over five years ago, and it continues to fascinate me to this day. I don't care ...

Batman: Vampire7 reviews
Doug Moench, Kelley Jones, ...

DC Comics, 2007

Gothic Gotham!
Kelley Jones is a revolutionary albeit controversial Batman artist. While his work may not have been the most appropriate for mainstream batman titles, he was picture perfect for Elseworld's, where literally anything goes. This book collects the Batman/Dracula trilogy. The art is brilliant, and pure Jones. The man does horror like no other, and each page grows darker than the next. You are ...

The Sandman 4: Season of Mists (Sandman Collected Library)52 reviews
Neil Gaiman

Topeka Bindery, 1994

Season of Mists Is The First To Astound Me
I've heard much about The Sandman series for many years, and so last summer I finally decided to experience it for myself. The first volume was adequate, but it didn't "wow" me as much as I expected. Probably because, by this point in time, Gaiman's concepts had been copied and recopied so many times by so many other writers that the original held little distinction. I took solace in the ...

The Sandman15 reviews
Neil Gaiman

DC Comics, Inc., 1991

The Sandman
Neil Gaiman is an amazing writer and it is because of his stories about "The Sandman" that I became a comic book fan. If you can suspend belief and open your mind to the realm of imagination, you can step into the world that Mr. Gaiman created revolving around the King of Dreams. The entire series of the Sandman will leave you riveted and wanting more. Take the time to explore the realm of dreams ...

Last Train To Deadsville: A Cal McDonald Mystery (Cal McDonald, Monster Hunter)1 review
Steve Niles, Kelley Jones

Dark Horse, 2005

Graphic SF Reader
Cal and Mo start off with taking out a mummy in a museum, breaking a few things in a process. When a dumb kid's parents bring him to Cal for help, he thinks he has solved the problem with a few minor demons, although not the forgetting Valentine's day girlfriend problem. That wasn't all, though, a rather nasty succubus is still around.

Aliens: Harvest5 reviews
Jerry Prosser, Kelley Jones

Dark Horse, 1998

It was a great comic with great art.
It is about a sientist who once wrote a book about ants. He has built a robot alien. He has crashed on a planet full of aliens. I like this book because it is an action packed comic with great art and a good story.

Zombie World: Winter's Dregs And Other Stories (Zombie World)3 reviews
Bob Fingerman, Kelley Jones, ...

Dark Horse, 2005

Winter's Dregs and other tales collects 4 Zombie World stories
" Winter's Dregs" is just over 24 hours in the life and death of New York City. Written by Bob Fingerman and illustrated by Tommy Lee Edwards, it begins with a plague of rats attacking one woman, but the rats are infected by the zombie disease and soon it spreads throughout the whole city. The art is dark and moody, perfect for this genre. The script focuses on a select few characters and their ...

13th Son: Worse Thing Waiting2 reviews
Kelley Jones

Dark Horse, 2007

Love for Kelley Jones
I've been a huge Kelley Jones fan ever since he worked on Deadman for DC Comics back in the late 80's. Jones understands what makes a good monster tale and it's always a treat for me to see his art. The tale opens with a group of monsters sitting around and basically telling a campfire tale of the one thing they fear more than anything else...The 13th Son! The monster that hunts monsters! Some ...
