Ken Bloom

Black Dog & Leventhal Publishers, 2005

The singers and the song writers of the great era in American music
This is a large and beautiful coffee table type book that cover the great singers, the big bands, and the song writers of that great era in music, the great American songbook. It is a very enjoyable book, with lots of pictures and facts. A couple of complaints: in the singers section, the author lists Louie Prima & Keely Smith and Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme under a two page chapter entitled ...

Broadway Musicals 2007 Wall Calendar9 reviews
Ken Bloom, Frank Vlastnik

Black Dog & Leventhal Publishers, 2006

Untimely calendar
Nice to see the other reviews of this product, that seems to mostly exist in myth. Ordered it for my daughter for Christmas, and when they told me it wouldn't even possibly be shipped until March (in February I was notified), I cancelled and found my daughter a calendar that featured old Broadway show posters. It came within a week. Whoever makes this product deserves to go out of business.

One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest (Bloom's Modern Critical Interpretations)1 review
Ken Kesey

Blooms Literary Criticism, 2008

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
I felt that this book was extremely well written. I enjoyed the entire book from start to finish. I liked how Kesey used McMurphy to make all the characters stronger, and I really liked when the Chief finally broke his silence. I felt that was very important, and it showed that McMurphy had a positive effect on the people around him. I enjoyed the end of the book when the Chief escaped by ...

Broadway Musicals: The 101 Greatest Shows of All Time30 reviews
Ken Bloom, Frank Vlastnik

Black Dog & Leventhal Publishers, 2008

What About a Sequel?
While praising this book's really extraordinary collection of rare photographs, many of the Amazon reviewers seem hung up on the selection of shows. One almost feels that they expect books to reflect their personal taste, whereas books naturally reflect the taste of their authors. In fact, the authors have been rather conservative in what to include. Imagine if the choice of titles were as madcap ...
