Mindscapes1 review
Anonymous

Highland press, 2006

Beautiful!
Ken Shotwell produces very intriguing works that have many dimensions, with each glance one can go deeper into the work and into one's own ideas and thought processes. I love that he has different styles and each piece can work differently. This book has a permanent place on my coffee table! Now all I need is some more wall space for all his fantastic work!

The Civil War35 reviews
Geoffrey C. Ward

Random House Audio, 1991

A great place to start...
From the very beginning, I was enthralled with the PBS series by Ken Burns, The Civil War. So why it took me so many years to read The Civil War companion book, I'll never know. Written by Geoffrey Ward with Ric Burns and Ken Burns, it was like discovering lost treasure. The Civil War was a momentous event in the history of our nation, and thousands and thousands of books have been written ...

Horatio's Drive (Unabridged)14 reviews
Burns, Dayton, Ken Duncan

Before the SUV...
Amazing document about a time in American history when there were only 150 miles of paved roads in the entire country. In 1903, an adenturous 31 year old Doctor from Vermont, now retired and living happily with his weathy young wife (on her funds), decided he'd attempt to be the first to man cross the continent via the latest technological gadget: the automobile. Being a non-mechanic, he hired ...

The West: An Illustrated History6 reviews
Geoffrey C. Ward

Back Bay Books, 2003

Booksbycee Book Review for The West : An Illustrated History
The West : An Illustrated History by Geoffrey C. Ward, Dayton Duncan has got to be one of the most "Can't put down" type of books I've had the wonderful pleasure of owning, ever! The illustrations, to many to count are of the finest quality I've ever seen in a book not to mention that the editorial choices were perfect. The photos depict the exact expressions that capture those lost moments in ...

I Was Right On Time23 reviews
Buck O'neil, David Conrads

Simon & Schuster, 1997

Got To Give It Up
This is not simply an autobiography, but an oral-history on where we have been and where we are going. It was written from the heart, and - if you read closely - it will open yours to live life in a different, better way. I read the book when it was initially published and recently purchased the soft-cover edition. Rarely do I re-read a book, but I felt the need after hearing Buck O'Neil's ...

Mark Twain12 reviews
Geoffrey C. Ward, Ken Burns, ...

Random House Audio, 2001

A Treasure
This illustrated biography of one of America's most memorable and beloved authors holds quite a few surprises for the unsuspecting reader. Anticipating anecdotes from Mark Twain's life that would portray him as a kind, altruistic, and loving man, I was shocked to learn he was also an irrascible, guilt-ridden, tight-fisted lover of alcohol and cigars who was often looking for ways to get rich. He ...

The West: An Illustrated History for Children1 review
Dayton Duncan

Little Brown & Co (Juv), 1996

a well-balanced introduction to the West
To the Native Americans, it was home. To Spanish Mexico, it was the north. To the British and French in Canada, it was the south. To the Russians and Chinese, it was the east. "But it was the Americans - the last to arrive - who named it the West and then made it part of their nation." Dayton Duncan's "The West" tells the story of how the United States fulfilled its manifest destiny to extend all ...

The Civil War: Episode 8 War in All Hell 1865 (Video Tape) (VHS)1 review
Ken Burns, Geoffrey Ward

CC PBS Video, 1989

Surrender
The eighth installment of Ken Burns' Civil War documentary deals with (among other things) these main topics within the North/South conflict: -Union General William T. Sherman's destructive march through Georgia and South Carolina, burning everything in his path so as to leave nothing behind for the Confederates to possible regroup with. -The ultimate breakthrough of Union forces at ...

The War: An Intimate History 1941-194559 reviews
Geoffrey C. Ward, Ken Burns

Random House, 2007

Well done! One of the best on war
This is one of the best books on the WWII. I love it. It's stripped off the hollyweirdish heroics and thats why this is great. It's real and sticks well. I can't get enough of it. The War and the companion book do make me appreciate the United States and its people's sacrifices during the war. This is a great collection!

Not For Ourselves Alone: The Story of Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony6 reviews
Geoffrey C. Ward, Ken Burns

Knopf, 2001

Applause to Ken Burns & Geoffrey Ward!
This book is richly woven with details that dive into the true characters of these two beautiful souls. The book gives a truly amazing account of not only Elizabeth Cady Stanton & Susan B. Anthony, but dives into their lives and characters. The reader obtains a true understanding of these women's motivations, techniques, skills, and contributions, in a brilliant biography with great quotes, ...

The West: An Illustrated History2 reviews
Geoffrey C. Ward

Back Bay Books, 1999

Wonderful overview of the Western Expansion
I have read this title in Hardback and it was wonderful. The personal stories of fate, tradegy and triumph as the European immigrants settle on Native American lands are excellently written. The story actually starts earlier than most would think - in the 1600s as the Spanish explore what is now New Mexico and Texas, and there are some misunderstandings between them and the Native Americans. ...

Lewis & Clark: The Journey of the Corps of Discovery9 reviews
Dayton Duncan

Random House Audio, 1997

I really enjoyed this book!
This book was so hard to put down! The way the author combines the facts with the actual quotes from the Lewis and Clark journals (complete with spelling errors), the original sketches and descriptions by Lewis and Clark, old pictures and paintings, and the attention to the sequencing (i.e., he walks you straight through the entire journey and makes it flow) really makes this book come alive for ...

Mel Bay's Complete Jethro Burns Mandolin Book4 reviews
Jethro Burns; Ken Eidson

Mel Bay Publications, Inc., 2002

If You Want To Be Great On The Mandolin - Copy Jethro
For the uninformed Jethro Burns was half of the country comedy team Homer & Jethro. More importantly he was the most inovative mandolin player of our times.

Ken Burns scores a knockout
If you are a baseball fan, you've got to appreciate Ken Burns documentary on baseball.
