Unix: The Complete Reference11 reviews
Kenneth Rosen, Douglas Host, ...

McGraw-Hill Osborne Media, 1999

Good book, not for the first time UNIX users
This book works as a reference for those who have some experience with UNIX. If you need the initial training, see Linux and UNIX for a beginner training suite, 4DVDs + 2CDs includes 4 Unix Academy Certifications ed.2008. This book while very informative but presumes some degree of familiarity with UNIX that DVD course delivers.

UNIX System V Release 4 : An Introduction7 reviews
Kenneth H.; Rosinski, Richard P.; Farber, James M. Rosen

Osborne McGraw-Hill, 1990

Best over-all UNIX "How-to" book on the market
I bought the original version of this book in 1991-1992. It's still the best UNIX "How-to" book on the market. Absolutely no other book in my "UNIX library" provides more useful information on such a wide variety of topics: shells, networking, user environment configuration, mail, etc., etc., etc. It's all in here. It's especially great for beginners, since it covers all of the basics that ...

A Classical Introduction to Modern Number Theory (Graduate Texts in Mathematics)6 reviews
Kenneth Ireland, Michael Rosen

Springer-Verlag Berlin and Heidelberg GmbH & Co. K, 1990

Best book on the subject
I am currently finishing my third year of undergraduate math at Brown University, and have just completed a course that used this particular book. I have to say it's the most WELL WRITTEN math book I've ever read, and I've read many, many math books by now (more than I'm willing to count as I'm typing this). Professor Rosen (and Ken Ireland, God rest his soul) have made a book that has both fun ...

ELEMENTARY NUMBER THEORY11 reviews
KENNETH ROSEN

PEARSON HIGHER EDUCATION, 2004

Excellent introduction to a vast, fascinating subject
This book is awesome. Tons of material covered, but at a decent pace and with good examples. All the reader needs is a good working knowledge of how to read and construct proofs, and the time and patience to get through the material. The exercises range from the computational to the theoretical, from the routine to the extremely challenging. Many of the examples and exercises are intriguing, ...

Voices of the Rainbow: Contemporary Poetry by Native Americans1 review
Kenneth Rosen

Bt Bound, 1999

Unique perspectives through excellent poetry . . .
I have said it before, and I will say it again - poetry by the First People is some of the finest in print! Unpretentious, hard-hitting, or subtle, personal, and always from the heart, these poems will leave you wanting more. I don't mean to sound so cliche, but it is the truth. If you're sick of the dull Modern American poetry scene, then give this anthology a try (and the Harper's Anthology ...

Open Computing's Best Unix Tips Ever1 review
Kenneth H. Rosen, Richard R. Rosinski, ...

Mcgraw-Hill Osborne Media, 1994

Practical and Informative!
This book shouldn't be out of print! It gives lots of practical tips, such as: How to use ed, vi, or emacs; how to write scripts in sh, sed, perl or awk; how to handle email on UNIX; basics of programming. Put together, it's a great lesson in the history and philosophy of UNIX. Work you way through the book, and you'll have a good grasp of the UNIX way. Then, you can still use the book as a ...

Whole Horse (The Braziller Series of Poetry)1 review
Kenneth Rosen

George Braziller, 1973

Epitomy of '70s psychedelic with no L.S.D.
Each poem in this book is like a trip without a trip. The images are vivid and real but eerily bright so bright you think you took something before you read it. It's as if the writer taped into the magical subconcious to reveal the truth of life. The problems of the existing that there are no answers too, like mental illness, and hormonal over drive...and the experience of them. Rosen gets in ...

The Origins of Tragedy & Other Poems6 reviews
Kenneth Rosen

Cavankerry, 2003

"Not For Skimmers"
Ken Rosen's collection of poems, The Origins Of Tragedy, is not a book for the skimmer of pages, not a volume for those incapable of or unwilling to keep the man and the work distinct and discrete. Rosen has been accused of chest-thumping egoism, a charge that will stand only if one skims the poems and assumes that the poet himself is indeed the speaker in every instance. This is an error only ...

Handbook of Discrete and Combinatorial Mathematics2 reviews

CRC, 1999

Amazingly comprehensive
This book will occupy a prime spot on my bookshelf. I've had to use a bunch of different books to find this kind of information before. It's nice to see such a wide range of topics from discrete math covered so thoroughly.

The man to send rain clouds: Contemporary stories by American Indians3 reviews
Kenneth Rosen

Viking Press, 1973

Excellent Collection of Native American Short Stories
The Man to Send Rainclouds rates as my favorite collection of short stories written by Native Americans. With 12 of the 19 selections penned by Leslie Silko or Simon Ortiz during the early stages of their important writing careers, many of the themes focus on the challenges native people confront living in the dominant American culture. But the news is not all doom and gloom. The title story, ...

Discrete Mathematics and Its Applications (McGraw-Hill International Editions: Mathematics Series)1 review
Kenneth Rosen

McGraw-Hill Education (ISE Editions), 1999

Caution: this is the Fourth Edition
The International Edition is actually the Fourth Edition of the Rosen's Discrete Math books. There are quite some structure and content updates in the most recent 6th edition of the book. If you are just buying this book for self-study, it would be perfect. But if you are buying as a textbook, maybe it would bring you a little trouble.

Discrete Mathematics and Its Applications14 reviews
Kenneth H. Rosen

McGraw-Hill Science/Engineering/Math, 2006

Liked it - would deFinitely recommend you
I'm a software developer and avid reader of math and tech books. This book is probably the best book in discrete mathematics. If you know math then you might wanna try 'Concrete Mathematics' by 'my dear' Knuth et al and the famous 'The Art of Computer Programming' series. If you get through them then you plausibly don't need to bother about any discrete math book. If not, then my best bet ...

Student's Solutions Guide to accompany Discrete Mathematics and Its Applications1 review
Kenneth H. Rosen

McGraw-Hill Science/Engineering/Math, 2006

review of discrete math solutions guide
the book contains only solutions to odd problems. i wanted the solutions to both odd and even. i wish that the product details said that they were only to the odd problems. i am very pissed off.

Discrete Math Its Applcs88 reviews
Kenneth H. Rosen

McGraw-Hill Companies, 1988

A good book
I like this book and use it for teaching my students. As a teacher, you have the opportunity to select similar problems for class activity and homework assignment. Also, you can find not only simple and middle-level problems but also high-level problems to provide a good source for active students. Unfortunately, the author uses the letters "F" and "T" in the truth tables instead of much easier ...
