Queen of the Flowers : a Phryne Fisher mystery4 reviews
Kerry Greenwood

Poisoned Pen Press, 2009

excellent Australian historical mystery
In 1928 the townsfolk of St. Kilda are euphoric as they prepare for the annual Queen of the Flowers gala. Socialite Phryne Fisher is especially looking forward to the festival receiving the honor of being name the Queen of the event. This means spending time buying fancy dresses and dining in top restaurants, a hardship that Phryne will suffer with relish though the elephant may be a bit too ...

The childstone cycle1 review
Kerry Greenwood

Mandarin, 1994

History Backwards!
I loved this book, not just because it is set in my home town. We start in the present and go back through one family's ups and downs over several generations. It's very interesting to read an event described from the point of view of the daughter, then see the same event described from the point of view of the mother.

Away With the Fairies4 reviews
Kerry Greenwood

Poisoned Pen Press, 2005

strong historical who-done-it
When Marcella Lavender dies, a guilty Detective Inspector Jack Robinson asks private detective Phyrne Fisher to determine whether she died of natural causes or was murdered. Marcella came to him a few weeks ago, showing him threatening letters she received and he told her not to worry because poison pen letter writers usually don't do anything violent. Now he is second guessing himself and ...

A young Miss Maples
Reviewed by Kylee J. Yeaman for Reader Views (2/07) "Blood and Circuses" is set in 1920's Australia. Phryne (pronounced Fry-knee) is asked by some `carnie' friends of hers to help solve some suspicious happenings at Farrell's Circus and Wild Beast Show (the circus that their carnival trails). The final incident that pushes these friends to ask Phryne for her help is when one of the carnival ...

Death by Water (A Phryne Fisher Mystery)1 review
Kerry Greenwood

Poisoned Pen Press, 2008

briny phryne
my favorite sleuth, the stylish, independent phyrne fisher goes to sea in this volume of one of the best mystery series in existence. as usual, greenwood has done her homework, and makes the days of the great ocean liners come to life. her characters are well drawn, the dialogue is believable, and the gleefully intricate plot pays homage to at least two of the traditions of the so-called ...

Flying Too High: A Phryne Fisher Mystery4 reviews
Kerry Greenwood

Poisoned Pen Press, 2006

the second in the finest mystery series ever
i have been reading mysteries for decades. i have favorite authors whose books i reread with pleasure. but my absolute favorite for the last ten years is kerry greenwood and her phryne fisher series. the novels are incredibly well-written and well researched, have wonderfully twisty plots, great dialogue, clothes, food and drink. phryne fisher is a complex and fascinating character with, ...

Earthly delights1 review
Kerry Greenwood

Allen and Unwin, 2004

The delights of daily life on Earth
Kerry Greenwood is mistress of making what could be the drudgery of a baker's daily life into a page-turning delight! Set in contemporary Melbourne, Australia, Corinna Chapman is a Rubenesque goddess with the smarts to get out of accounting and into yeast. If you like your would-be detectives smart, sassy and a whiz in the bakery then this book is for you. A must read for dedicated cat ...

Death before wicket1 review
Kerry Greenwood

Allen and Unwin, 1999

Brilliant character development and a 'cliffhanger' plot.
Phryne Fisher's plans for her trip to Sydney, Australia unexpectedly go awry when her maid discovers that her thoroughly respectable sister Joan has abandoned her family for the murky and somewhat sleazy nightclub scene. Her trip is again postponed because Phryne can't say no to two youn men who beg for her help in finding their friend innocent of theft. So once again ("Death Before Wicket" is ...

Cocaine Blues15 reviews
Kerry Greenwood

Ulverscroft Large Print, 2000

good series, exceptionally well read by Stephanie Daniel
While the Phryne Fisher series is set in the '20's, they seldom feel like it to me, which is part of the appeal. Stephanie Daniel does an exceptional job with the voices on the CDs, making them most enjoyable. Bravo!!

Castlemaine Murders, The [LARGE TYPE EDITION]: A Phryne Fisher Mystery (Phryne Fisher Mysteries)6 reviews
Kerry Greenwood

Poisoned Pen Press, 2004

a mystery series with everything
the appearance of a uniform hardback edition of the phyrne fisher mysteries is a wonderful thing. the first three in the series appeared in this country in paperback in the early 90s, but for some unknown reason, none of the rest of the series until now was available on this continent. i ordered most of my paperback copies used from australia (i love them enough to pay the postage!) mystery ...

Flying Too High5 reviews
Kerry Greenwood

Fawcett, 1992

Wing walking
The second book in the series takes place only a few months after "Cocaine blues" ends and with it returns its bright and luminous Phryne Fisher. Many of the secondary (if you can call them that) characters return which adds a nice touch. I liked this book even more than the previous one. Phryne seems to have found her grove in this story along with moving into her new, fashionable domicile. She ...

Urn Burial9 reviews
Kerry Greenwood

Penguin Books Ltd, 1996

Reliably engaging. Particularly sexy.
This is the sexiest of the Phryne Fisher series that I've read. Yowsa. A good mystery with a big, thrilling conclusion. One of Greenwood's best.

Ruddy Gore8 reviews
Kerry Greenwood

McPhee Gribble, 1995

phyrne's phinally back in the states
i found the first phyrne in a wonderful used bookstore in portland, oregon, and started searching for the rest. i had to order most of them used from australia. now, at last, she's back, in a uniform edition yet. ms. greenwood writes well, and, as the series progresses, her plots, her characterizations, the atmosphere all become increasing fine. she writes with humor, an impressive depth ...

The Green Mill Murder8 reviews
Kerry Greenwood

McPhee Gribble, 1993

pages are indeed missing
in my copy, which i ordered from australia since it wasn't available here at the time, the main mystery was definitely solved. (i am editing my review to include this information: a chapter and a half is missing from this edition, which i bought to replace my worn australian paperback. i just re-read the novel yesterday and compared it to the paperback. i'm appalled.) so, assuming you can get ...

Muder on the Ballarat Train10 reviews
Kerry Greenwood

Bolinda Press (Large Print), 1998

Another Runaway for Phyrne
Love this series. It's always something new but Phyrne and her 'gang' are always reliable. Kerry Greenwod captures the spirit of this character and you become submersed in the caper.

Raisins and Almonds (Large Type Edition): A Phryne Fisher Mystery6 reviews

Poisoned Pen Press, 2007

Fisher is back!!
Reviewed by Debra Gaynor for Reader Views (7/07) Phryne Fisher's lover, Lin Chung, had been forced to travel to Shanghai to purchase silk. Handsome, Jewish Simon Abraham made a nice distraction for a while. Phryne and Simon entered a dance contest and would have won if Phryne had been Jewish. When a Jewish student was poisoned in "Lee's Books New and Secondhand," Simon's father Benjamin ...
