Important and Inspiring Book for Vajrayanists
Although not a household name among American Buddhists, Lama Yeshe should really go down in history as one of the chief teachers responsible for transmitting Buddhism to the West. He managed to find a voice for this ancient tradition of Tibetan Buddhism that makes it accessible, inspiring, and transformational to contemporary Westerners. This is evident in the several excellent volumes that have ...

An amazing book and probably the best introduction to tantra available!
Tibetan Buddhism is a very complex and difficult topic to explain to anyone, especially people from the West. Lama Yeshe had a rare gift to take difficult concepts, present them logically and concisely, in a way that brings the essence of tantra to life. What this book is not about, is "tantric sexual practices" as they are so often presented out of contex in the West. Rather, it is about ...

Essential read for Buddhists & scholars
It is wonderful to finally have a translation of this precious Tibetan text written in the 18th century by one of the greatest Tibetan scholars and masters, Jigme Lingpa. The insightful and indispensable commentary is provided by Kangyur Rinpoche (1898-1975), highly revered as one of the greatest Tibetan masters of the 20th century. This text provides a detailed overview of the Buddhist path as ...

short but good presentation of Buddhist psychological view
This book combines two previously published works based on two series of lectures in Australia & New Zealand in 1975: 1st in Apr/Jun; 2nd in Mar. Almost all include Q&A sessions; one with psychiatrists is only Q&A. The 1st set is exceptional, addressing Buddhism's psychological nature (p. 5: "From the Lama's point of view, Buddhist teachings are more in the realm of philosophy, science, or ...

Commentary on Avalokiteshvara Guru Yoga Practice
This teaching, which comes from the (late) marvelous Lama Yeshe, is for serious practitioners of Tibetan Buddhism, specifically those who have received the Avalokiteshvara (Buddha of Compassion) empowerment or are interested in this practice. It is a teaching Lama Yeshe gives on a particular Avalokiteshvara practice combined with guru yoga, a practice composed by HH the XIV Dalai Lama when he was ...

No-nonsense Insights into the Human Condition
This is a deeply refreshing book about elementary Buddhist ideas. The authors, Lama Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche, present the material in a clear logical way that immediately rings true. They are empirical and scientific in their approach, even comparing Buddhist inquiry about the nature of self to a scientific investigation. Their refrain throughout the books is "check it out" --- verify for ...

I'm Not A Big Fan of Tibetan Buddhism ...
it has too many "pre-canned" answers, I dislike it's overarching emphasis on ceremonial ritual and if I have to read another explanation on the inseparability of bliss and "emptiness" I'm going to gag. But for the most part this book was very candid and straight forward. The discussions on vase breathing and tummo were remarkably down to earth and frank. This was a fascinating book for anyone ...

great book
This book has the full spectrum of Buddha's teachings from the very basic things to and not to do up to the highest Vajrayana teachings. Each section is spelled out into small groups of common sense instructions that are progressive and easy to follow. It is a book I have read more than once and will read again.
Ego, Attachment & Liberation-Overcoming Your Mental Bureaucracy

This book contains the teachings and meditations Lama gave at a five-day retreat he led near Melbourne, Australia, which he introduced by saying: "Whether or not this five-day meditation course becomes beneficial is up to you; it depends on your own mind. Its not a lama thing; Im not going to bring you to enlightenment in this short time. Instead of having too many expectations of the lama, its better that you generate a pure motivation for ...

"Meditation is not on the level of the object but on that of the subject - you are the business of your meditation. "Bodhicitta is very practical, I tell you. Its like medicine. The self-cherishing thought is like a nail or a sword in your heart; it always feels uncomfortable. With bodhicitta, from the moment you begin to open, you feel incredibly peaceful and you get tremendous pleasure and inexhaustible energy. Forget about enlightenment - as ...

A good first reading
Tibet brought forward many great yogis. One of them is Lama Yeshe (1935-1984) of the Tibetan Buddhist Gelugpa school. This small booklet is an example of the great capacity of Lama Yeshe to convey Buddhism to Westerners in an accessible way for both beginners and advanced students. It serves very well as a first reading on the Buddhist way of thought. You will not regret buying this book.

One of the best books to hook you on buddhism!
Lama Yeshe was, and remains, on of the most important Tibetan teachers who brought buddhism to the west. He had (and has) a unique approach like no other. These are two of his teachings, and are excellent introductions for anyone interested in buddhism, and just great teachings in general. Highly recommended!
