There is only one thing wrong--
There is only one thing wrong with "The Cartoon History Of The Universe". Each volume has a 7 to 10 year wait between them! However, they ARE excellent. A fine, well-researched history, presented in a fun graphic style.

Wow! If only high school/college history had been this fun and insightful
You know it takes a comic to get to heart of humanity. In most history books you get a narrow point of view, and one that is usually "politically correct" according to the standards of the day. By making a comic version of history, the author can get around all of the "PC"ness of most history books and really hit home with the way humanity *is* and *always was.* The "sheep love" of early ...

Well-written, fun-to-learn comic book.
Rarely do I post anything on the web, but I feel obligated to do so now in defense of this author. Global Warming is covered on pages 64, 201-3, and 207 as listed in the index. Ozone Depletion, page 199 & Acid Rain, page 198.

Accurate and entertaining
I am not from America but I live here the last 7 years. By far the most pleasant history book. Very accurate and funny, easy to read. I am from Greece and I was surprised to see that the author makes a very precise comment about the involvement of the US government in the Greek politics. It is worth its price and even more. I have bought it as a gift to many friends and they all enjoyed it

EXCELLENT!
The most enjoyable entry in Mr. Gonick's series since I read his first volume in 1993. This book covers history from roughly 1300-1750, with a refreshing and rare emphasis on pre-Columbian American cultures, such as the Aztecs and Incas. Gonick also delves into the might of India's Moghul Empire, dishes on the Reformation and Counter-Reformation, the first stirrings of the Enlightenment, global ...

Finally!
I was a lousy science major in high school. Looking back, I have no idea why I chose the subject I did anyway. The point is, I never understood half the stuff we were going through. Now, 10 years later, I've forgotten the few things I did understand. Thanks to the magic of Larry Gonick I get now get it! At first glance it still looks hard. They really dive right in with formulas and stuff, ...

The universe in comics... finally...
Comics have no limits. Anything can get depicted with words and pictures. And, after Larry Gonick completes his "Cartoon History of the Universe" series, most everything will be. Over the past three decades Gonick has stretched modern comics from the purely fictional into the scientific and historic. He has cartoonified esoteric subjects that would bore most medieval scriveners. Snoozers like ...

funny and informative
I would recomend this book for every one. It is funny and entertaining enought to keep a person reading but it contains enough information to get something out of the book. The book has a rather small section (5-15 pages) on how to fix sexual problems, but the main focus on the book is more on explaining and listing human sexual nature.

Are Bunker Busting Bear Claws the Future of Muse Prankfare?
Let me start with my [dis]qualifications: I am a 46 year old childfree science teacher familiar with the works of Larry Gonick, but pretty clueless about Kokopelli & Company or Muse Magazine [I did a little research before I bought Attack of the Smart Pies - I read a good number of the Kokopelli & Company strips on the Muse Magazine website]. I am obviously NOT part of the target audience for ...

Communication is hard, but this book makes it easier to understand
Communication between humans is very hard, as there are so many different ways in which information can be sent. Furthermore, all communications are carried out in a historical and local context. There is the history of all previous communications between all involved and there are the current surroundings and exterior conditions. Even the same words spoken in a different tone of voice can impart ...

Old Text, but still very Relevant
This book will not help you design applications around XML, nor show you how to use the SDK/IDE's for Java, C++/C#, etc. Nor will it explain how to write drivers for new devices, it is an excellent survey and introduction to the core concepts of information technologies. The text includes some humor, and some history. But it clearly explains the basics of information theory, and logical ...
