An adventure without Salt-Spray
This was my first book I have read which is a narrative on what it is like to cruise for years in the Mediterranean on a 24 foot sail boat. I am planning on a 3 month cruise in the summer of 2002 and wanted info on what it is like. The Authors had a good mix of experiences from Lessons-learned, weather/seas in the Western/Central Med, and alot of good narrative about the people they meant in a ...

modern man is loosing his ability to use his own hands
I read this book fifteen years ago, then bought the new edition because someone borrowed my old one. Yup, as the previous reviewer said, the Pardyes have only updated this edition, adding maybe 30 percent new info. But their message is as modern as today. Only by knowing how to get along without al the fancy gadgets can you be have a chance to feel completely in charge of your cruising life. You ...

I had the first, the second is worth having too
My first copy was pretty worn, so I decided to buy this edition. Really interesting new stories, not only from the Pardeys expereinces in storms, but also from others. I liked the deductions made by folks from both ends of the experience spectrum, one a real novice, others all along the expereince wave, they all add to the information Lin and Larry share in a very understandable manner. I still ...

These people have done their homework
I don't have a small boat, in fact mine is 38 feet long. But I definitely agree with the majority of what I read in this book. Not only that, I enjoyed reading stuff like the pros and cons of tiller vs wheel even though I would never give up my wheel (first because it came with the boat, second because I don't like using tillers.) The Pardey's have hooked me and I plan to read more of ...

Right On Target!
"Larry came below shivering and blue-lipped. I got him out of his wet clothes, warmed some freshwater so he could wipe down, and got out his dry clothes. But it wasn't until he had had some hot, solid food that he started to warm up and stop shivering" (p. 357); the real situations experienced during extended cruising and appropriate responses are the focus of this comprehensive book which ...

Wonderful color photos make this a real delight
As other folks have written, this book is lovely to read and inspiring as can be. The new edition, in its hard cover is not just a simple reprint. It is almost a whole new book - the new introduction gives grand info for sailors today, the appendix puts it all where it is for those who want to sail off in 2002. But best of all are the l6 pages of full color photos - stuff to dream about, ideas ...

Great series - a fantastic, enjoyable, read
This is the fourth and final book in the Seraffyn series that chronicles Lin and Lary Pardey's meander around the world in their 28 foot wooden cutter. They have a very comfortable and easy going writing style that pulls you into their story. This is a wonderful series whether you are a sailor or not. - Regarding the previous reviewer's comment about storm tactics - The Pardey's have a ...

An enjoyable, quick, read
This is the second of 4 books in the Pardey's Serrafyn series which describes their many year wanderings around the world on their small wooden sailboat. Both my wife and I read the first ("Cruising with Seraffyn") and had to pick up this next volume. The Pardeys have a very easy and relaxed writing style. Reading these books makes you feel like you are friends with them and enjoying the ...
