"Everyone is capable of telling a story"
"The Maeve Binchy Writer's Club" is typical Binchy - warm, down-to-earth, and inspiring. Composed of 20 letters from Maeve to students at a writing course at the National College of Ireland, the letters offer beginner/aspiring writers tips, hints and advice as to how to hone their writing skills. The book also contains contributions by other authors, publishers and editors. The advice contained ...

Maeve at her best
Dear Maeve is a compilation of some Maeve Binchy's columns from the Irish Times. Although she wasn't an advice column, she often was asked to field questions facing her readers, and to give her two cents worth. With the usual straightforwardness and gentle hunor, she addresses the everyday struggles that face her readers. Whether deciding how much is proper to spend on a baptism or ...

excellent
I saw the exhibit of these photograghs at Grand Central Station when I was in NYC. The pictures were beautiful, and you could truly see the humanity in the eyes of the people photographed. The photographers really captured the spirit of the people in these pictures. I was so moved just looking at the pictures. If you love photography you will love this book.

saving grace of night driving
this mammoth collection of cassettes (eight total) is incredibly cheap and contains lovely shimmering stories that are read by someone that evidently enjoys them as much as anyone does/everyone should.

Excellent, but published in America under another name.
This is a great book of short stories. If you like Maeve Binchy's short stories you will have a wonderful time. But be warned, this book has been published in the United States as "London Transports." If you've read one, you've read the other

A Fascinating Compilation of Irish Facts and Lore
I have already read this work from cover to cover in a previous translatlantic edition (pub. by Weidenfeld and Nicolson,London, 1994) and I can guarantee that it is truly a brilliant work. American (and Irish-American) readers have every reason to look forward to the next publication of this and to pre-order it now to be sure that they don't miss a copy. For those of you who are familiar with the ...

Warm and real
It's something comforting about Maeve Binchy's books. The cliché about a book being like a good friend, is so very right in her case. Of course, one is interested in finding out what happens to the characters, but there is no hurry. In the case of this book, it is much more preferable to sit down with a cup of tea and read quietly a couple of hours before going to bed. "Heart and Soul" is a ...

Wonderfully done!
Maeve Binchy stories are suited perfectly for audio books. The writing is light, unmatchable, and the plot moves quickly. Very soothing especially when we listen to it on the way to work and back. The voice artist on these stories is superb.

Warm Cheering-Up Medicine for Those with Routine Illnesses
Most of us make lousy patients. I'm told that physicians are the worst. We think the worst. We miss what we can't do. We take it out on everyone around us. In short, we need to lighten up. Maeve Binchy and Wendy Shaw ended up having hip replacement surgery around the same time, and compared notes. They realized the patients needed something to cheer them up. This little, light-hearted, warm ...

Vintage Binchey
This collection of short stories is Maeve Binchy at her best. Comprised of tales of various residents of Dublin, the betrayed housewife, the young girl on her own, or the older single girl embarking on losing her virginity....Binchey manages to weave an engaging tapestry of life. The stories move at a quick pace, are character driven and leave you wanting to know more about the people and how ...

Maeve Binchy never appears on the "100 Best Writers of our Time" type lists and I wonder why that is. Perhaps because she is ghettoized as a "women's writer" or pigeon-holed as a local-color-type Irish author. Her millions of readers know better. Circle of Friends is rightly seen as her best (though every book she has is worthy of multiple reads). The emotional density, rich complexity of plot ...

Masterpiece of literature
I really enjoy Maugham's writing - it is a pleasure to read. Although written close to 90 years ago, the characters and settings are so alive and present that it comes across as a book that could have been released within the last decade. His characters grow and change during the novel, and in this one in particular Philip undergoes tremendous changes in philosphy and lifestyle. There are ...

Maeve Binchy: Two Complete Novels: Circle of Friends; The Copper Beech
I purchased this book for my wife as a Christmas Gift. She is a person that loves Maeve Binchy Books. Maeve Binchy is a great writer that really gets into the story of the places she has been. If this book follows the other books she wrote it will be a great book to buy. The wife got a number of her books and has not been able to read all of them yet. She is very pleased to get any of Maeve's ...

Binchy's Play a Classic
I don't know when I have read a play last..probably in high school. Deeply Regreted is a true Maeve Binchy classic. Binchy is a master of taking glimpses of daily life and immersing the reader. If you are a Binchy fan, please give this a read. You will not "deeply regret" it.

Best Of Binchy
This is easily Binchy's best book. The characters are brilliantly developed, and the prose is hypnotic. Mrs. Binchy is a very charismatic writer. I couldn't put it down!

Feel-Good Anthology
Maeve Binchy, Marian Keyes, and a host of other fabulous but unkown-to-this-reviewer Irish women authors pooled their talents to raise money for an Irish charity--and this fabulously wonderful book was the result. Each short story is a gem unto itself, and absolutely nothing is boring, trite or blah. This is a perfect beach read, and makes me want to look up all the women of whom I knew ...

Questioning the ending.
I loved Glass Lake. That is until I got to the end. Did Kit and Stevie get married. That was not clearly explained. I can guess, they did or guess that they did not. I wish I knew. A strange ending to a very good book.

Three Complete Books ~ Maeve Binchy
Maeve Binchy is one of the best authors I have read. I love the fact that she is Irish and writes stories of Ireland. The slow pace makes reading a pleasure. I liked all three books in this, but particularly liked FIREFLY SUMMER. Hopefully, she will have another book on the market soonest.
