Butterscotch Blues94 reviews
Margaret Johnson-Hodge

St. Martin's Paperbacks, 2001

I loved this book
This book was the ultimate test of Love. I don't know if I could have done it like the main character did it, but I have to respect her steadfastness in love. I truly fell in love with this book. I liked the girlfriends, the way the author took me from one scene to the next, smoothly. This book is a good read.I highly recommend it.

Joan of Arc: The Lily Maid2 reviews
Margaret Hodges

Holiday House, 1999

Illustrations that beautifully bring the story home!
I was impressed with the look of this book as much as with the content. Both the author and the illustrator have created a lovely retelling of the story of Joan! And when my, then 6 year old, daughter brought it home from her school library, I could see her spark of interest in St. Joan coming to life. One year later, she brought up the notion of finding this book again. She hadn't seen it ...

St. Jerome and the Lion2 reviews
Margaret Hodges

Orchard Books, 1991

Beautifully-illustrated legend of St. Jerome
If you're lucky enough to run across this book, you'll be very happy to have it in your collection of children's books. The predominantly-dark but gorgeous illustrations are entirely in keeping with the sombre tone of the story as Margaret Hodges beautifully retells the legend of St. Jerome: A wounded lion finds his way to the Bethehem monastery, and among the monks there only quiet, gentle ...

The Kitchen Knight: A Tale of King Arthur6 reviews
Margaret Hodges

Holiday House, 1993

Kitchen Knight
Excellent book for use during any medieval or knight study. Fourth grade boys in particular would love this book, however, any student in elementary would enjoy the book. The illustrations are very good. Younger students may need the book read to them. Goes along with King Arthur studies and tales.

Merlin and the Making of the King (Booklist Editor's Choice. Books for Youth (Awards))3 reviews
Margaret Hodges

Holiday House, 2004

It's a busy time in Camelot. I have to push the pram a lot.
You could be forgiven for thinking that it was about time for Margaret Hodges to rest on her laurels. Consider her widespread accomplishments. In 1983 she takes Edward Spencer's "Fairy Queen" and turns it into a Caldecott winning picture book that is readable by children ("Saint George and the Dragon"). As I write this the woman is nearing her 95th birthday and is still going strong. Heck, ...

The True Tale of Johnny Appleseed1 review
Margaret Hodges

Holiday House, 1999

An inspiring book
This book begins simply of his life and continues with his journeys as he plants his apple seeds and trees. It tells of his kindnesses to others: children, Indians, animals, the poor. The illustrations enhance the story written by Ms. Hodges. I highly recommend this book as a read aloud to a kindergartener as older children are listening.

Silent Night: The Song and Its Story3 reviews
Margaret Hodges

Eerdmans Books for Young Readers, 1997

The Song that Unites Savage Beasts
See how a univerally-known song, "Silent Night" can stop men from thinking about war. From a song that was scrawled on a crumpled piece of paper inside an old church organ to a melody that stopped gunfire during the Korean War, we see the power of music through this simple holiday carol. Beautifully illustrated, and a wonderful lesson to read aloud.

Green Lights for this thrilling ride!
Set along the backdrop of our nation's greatest tragedy, 9/11, Margaret Johnson-Hodge takes us back and gives another look at those struggling amidst another rubble - drugs. She is one of few authors who can shed light upon seemingly unloving characters in unfavorable situations, and pull at your heart strings. Moses2 reviews
Margaret Hodges

Harcourt Children's Books, 2006

a great leader
This is a picture book biography of a great man named Moses. The book starts out when Moses is born and follow his life all the way to his last days on earth. In the back are is a list of the 10 commandments. It seemed to be a little long for the picture book crowd. Yes. I'd love to see more books like these written about other people from biblical times.

REALLY real
Just finished this book and at first it dragged and I hated it, but once Jonathan and Samone met each other I could not put it doen, Samone is an independent woman who is in love with a 'tall drink of water' named Max, but he is not ready for a commitment. After a life changing act, Samone and Max relutantly agree that they are not the ones for each other. Samone who is on the rebound meets ...
