Mitchell is Moving5 reviews
Marjorie Weinman Sharmat

Scholastic, 1984

A really sweet story with funny characters...
When Mitchell announces that he is moving "two weeks away" from the home he's lived in for sixty years, his best buddy (and next door neighbor) Margo doesn't sit quietly by and let him slip away. The tale that ensues speaks volumes about the love of friendship and surprising solutions. If you find yourself reading the same stories over and over, you'll want to make sure this one is among the ...

Hollywood Hound (Duz Shedd Stories)2 reviews
Marjorie Weinman Sharmat

Topeka Bindery, 2001

Book report for [my] Second Grade class
Hollywood Hound is the best book in the whole world. It's about a dog named Duz Shed that becomes a movie star by winning a contest. His owner, Fred Shed, entered him in the contest. Then Duz is captured by Veronica Fudge who has a big mean cat and Duz didn't like her. Fred didn't know that Veronica kidnapped Duz and had to find clues about what happened. The end is very exciting, and I had ...

Nate Great Stolen3 reviews
Marjorie Weinman Sharmat

Putnam Juvenile, 1992

Excellent
I love the "Nate the Great" books by Marjorie Weinman Sharmat. They keep my daughter's interest and she loves the characters and Nate always having his pancakes. She tries to read the books herself and I love any book that challenges her to do that. I hope to see more books by Marjorie Weinman Sharmat. I feel she's a talented author and should be applauded for her children's works.

Nate Great Underco Gb4 reviews
Marjorie Weinman Sharmat

Putnam Juvenile, 1974

Who Is The Garbage Snatcher?
Nate the Great, the youngest detective to ever deliver tough guy lines, is summoned to his newest case by his next door neighbor, Oliver. Oliver is something of a pest because he follows people. It doesn't matter who they are or where they're going, if they catch Oliver's eye he will follow them. He's followed Nate the Great around on a lot of the cases Nate has been given to find things his ...

Gila Monsters Meet (Picture Puffin)2 reviews
Marjorie Weinman Sharmat

Puffin, 1983

A delightful children's book on moving to Arizona
"Gila Monsters" has to be one of my favorite children's books. It addresses the fear of a young boy from New York, whos "parents are moving out west." His friend told him that "Gila Monsters Meet You at the Airport," and he knows it's true, because he read it in a book. When he finally arrives at the airport, he meets another young boy who is moving to New York and filled with fears, ...

Nate the Great and the Boring Beach Bag4 reviews
Marjorie Weinman Sharmat

Putnam Juvenile, 1987

Mystery At The Beach
Trying to take a day off and bask at the beach just doesn't work for Nate the Great. As a detective, his detecting services are always on call. This time Oliver, Nate's next door neighbor and the world's greatest pest, has come up with a new mystery. Oliver has lost his beach bag. The beach bag contains Oliver's clothes and shoes, which Oliver will need. Nate signs on for the case at once, ...

Nate the Great18 reviews
Marjorie Weinman Sharmat

Putnam Juvenile, 1986

Wonderfully Funny!
I never did read any Nate the Great growing up...and what a shame. It's amazing that Sharmat can do so very much in terms of story and humor with so few words. It's great for beginner readers and uproariously funny as a read aloud story (especially if you can do the P.I. voice-over effect). This initial installment (I believe there are over 20 in this series) finds Nate the Great on hire for his ...

I'm Terrific4 reviews
Marjorie Weinman Sharmat

Holiday House, 1992

A delightful; highly recommended read for parents & children
Since I am the first to review this book on line, I am assuming that it is the same as the original "I'm Terrific" first copyrighted in 1977. My daughter, in her first grade class, read the most books that year and her teacher gave her this wonderful book as a reward. That was in 1984. She is now twenty-one and she and I have read the book together many times; the last being about one month ...

Rich Mitch3 reviews
Marjorie Weinman Sharmat

New Amer Library (Mm), 1986

Excellent book for children of all ages.
My students enjoy this book because it is easy to read, and it makes it easier for my students to understand. Also they really enjoy reading the book and find it pretty fascinating. They are doing a novel study on this book and are expected to answer questions for each chapter. This makes them really stay on key and pay attention to the book. I think that there should be more books out ...

Nate Great Phony Clue3 reviews
Marjorie Weinman Sharmat

Putnam Juvenile, 1988

Nate the Great and the Phony Clue
My two boys and I have read all of the Nate the Great books, and this is one of their favorites. If you're paying close attention, you can even spot some clues long before Nate does, and help him solve the case.

The 329th Friend1 review
Marjorie Weinman Sharmat

Marcel Dekker, 1992

Best I've seen in a long time!
If you don't buy any more children's books this year, be sure to get this one! Young children will not be the only ones to appreciate the clever way the moral of the story is revealed. Especially good for those children who feel like they don't have any friends. I will be looking for other books by this author.

Nate the Great on the Owl Express2 reviews
Marjorie Weinman Sharmat

Topeka Bindery, 2004

Nate Really IS Great!
I first picked up a Nate the Great book for my five year-old a few months ago after having been warned off getting him the Junie B. Jones series as there is a lot of negative language in those books (calling people "stupid" and things like that). My son was just getting into reading chapter books and these were a great introduction. He had previously read the "Biscuit" books about the girl and ...

Edgemont1 review
Marjorie Weinman Sharmat

Coward, McCann & Geoghegan, 1976

A TALE FOR ALL AGES
Simply put, this is the story of Edgemont, a very, very old turtle who has pretty well retired and is living an all too quiet a life. One day Edgemont decides to take a crawl, something he has not done for quite a while. Edgemont's life changes. He finds he is indeed not too old to have a very fine and fulfilling life. This is a children's book, but it is a book that is absolutely ideal for ...

Nate Great Snowy Trai2 reviews
Marjorie Weinman Sharmat

Putnam Juvenile, 1987

I think this is the best Nate the Great adventure.
Rosamond's present slid off of her sled. Nate the Great walked to her house and noticed that there were 6 cartons of milk on the table. Rosamond had only 4 cats and each cat drank a single bottle of milk. What could the other 2 bottles be for? Nate followed the tracks from Rosamond's sled in the snow. This led him to a tree by the tracks. He looked up into the tree and found his present, ...

Getting Something on Maggie Marmelstein1 review
Marjorie Weinman Sharmat

HarperCollins Children's Books, 1971

I loved it!
I read this book for the first time when I was 10 years old. Today, it still provides me with warm memories, laughter, and a great bread pudding recipe that allows my tattered volume to sit with my favorite cookbooks. Don't miss it!

Nate the Great and the Monster Mess2 reviews
Marjorie Weinman Sharmat

Delacorte Books for Young Readers, 1999

Cinnamon Werewolves! Yes!
For over twenty adventures now, Nate the Great, the young detective, has searched for his friends' missing things. He's searched for missing stamps, weeds, boring beach bags, missing pets, musical notes, stolen bases, and even saved the King of Sweden (kinda!). In all of this, his mom has been quietly supportive. He leaves a note on the refrigerator to tell her what case he's working on, that ...

Sophie and Gussie ([I can read books])2 reviews
Marjorie Weinman Sharmat

World's Work, 1974

A must read for little girls!
This was my favorite book as a child, Sophie and Gussie were the providers of many adventures, and I have searched high and low to find a copy that I may read to my own children one day! The poems and stories are simple ones of sharing and freindship, if you can find a copy I highly recccommend it!

Gladys Told Me to Meet Her Here1 review
Marjorie Weinman Sharmat

HarperCollins, 1970

Great
Although written in the 1970's and the art isn't great, I love reading this book to my daughter (age 3). It's written as if a child is speaking. It's fun and easy to read.

Best Valentine in the World1 review
Marjorie Weinman Sharmat

Spoken Arts, 1992

It truly is "The Best Valentine" one could give
Simply wonderful! I find this story as enchanting today as I did as a child fifteen years ago. With an entertaining plot and fabulous illustrations, this book should be part of everyone's library!

Nate the Great and the Big Sniff2 reviews
Marjorie Weinman Sharmat, Mitchell Sharmat

Missing: Detective Partner!
Nate the Great is a detective and a guy known for being able to find lost things or solve mysteries. However, in NATE THE GREAT AND THE BIG SNIFF, Nate experiences his most personal mystery of all when Sludge, his dog, detective partner, and best friend, ends up lost in Weinman Brothers, Nate's favorite store.
