Amazing writing, amazing life
Wow, couldn't put this one down. The life of Rudolf Nureyev was nothing short of incredible. From frozen, poor, Soviet Russia to Paris, to NY and everywhere in-between, all the time the unrelenting rigor of the dance, the practice, the genius. But the way this life is condensed into this work of fact-based fiction by this excellent writer is wonderfully artful.

Collection of essays to make you think
The whole collection of essays could easily be summarized in Voddie Baucham's statement on page 62: "Christ is 'before all things.' Why did you choose your last job? Was it because of the supremacy of Christ in truth as it relates to your purpose for existing? Or was it because it paid you more than the job you had before? Pastor, how did you choose your current church? Was it because of a ...

Outstanding Introduction to Foundational Christian Beliefs
Doctrine by Mark Driscoll and Gerry Breshears had been on my radar since I first heard Driscoll talking about writing it during his sermon podcasts that I listen to regularly. I confess I had some doubts as to how well he would balance the serious issues of doctrine with his decidedly brash personality. Don't get me wrong, I like Driscoll and I think he is a great preacher, but it is not every ...

Death By Love - A+
Death By Love: Letters from the Cross is the second book that Pastor Mark Driscoll and Western Seminary Professor Gerry Breshears have teamed up to write. Without a hint of his trademark irreverence or humor, Driscoll presents one of the most pastoral books written on the cross this decade. The central symbol of Christianity is the cross, the place where our God died, the "crux of both the ...

Short, to the point, documented.
There are several aspects to this short book that I wanted to highlight. First, its short and to the point. Second, its well documented; foot notes abound. Third, the author covers opposing opinions and explains where those opinions are coming from. Fourth, I appreciate the humor with which the author writes. It has a bit of an edge to it and I find it oddly refreshing. In conclusion, its ...

Awesome book!
This book is awesome! It helped me change my perspectives on some key issues regarding how Christians should live and engage culture. It's a must have for any church leader and/or church planter, but isn't "beyond" anyone. Any Christian should check this book out, it will change the way you live. If you've grown up around or bought into the "stay away from the scary unsaved people" view, this ...

Vintage Jesus is vintage Driscoll--and that's not a bad thing
Vintage Jesus is a twelve-part DVD curriculum featuring Pastor Mark Driscoll of Mars Hill Church in Seattle, WA. Based on Driscoll's 12-part sermon series from the fall of 2006, and the book of the same name published in 2008, Vintage Jesus answers 12 of the most important questions about the person and work of Jesus Christ. If you've read the book or watched the sermon series, you're not ...
On Who Is God?

Mark Driscoll answers the Question, Who Is God?
In the midst of our culture of ever expanding information, it can be difficult to get a clear picture of who God really is. The portraits of God painted in recent books, movies, & magazines are often confusing at their best and downright wrong at their worst. I'm confident that this short book by Mark Driscoll will be a valuable resource that will add clarity to the fragmented picture many ...

Straight forward and to the point
Mark Driscoll's recent book (or booklet),Porn-Again Christian, is a great resources. In typical Driscoll fashion, this short book (50 some pages) is a hard-hitter that gets straight to the point. The text doesn't offer any superficial antics. Rather it addresses the heart of the matter - the Christian life has no place for pornography & sexual sin. It's a good & quick read. Well worth the ...

A radical and unsuspecting take on what church is
The Relevant Church is compilation of readable essays and first-hand stories of young pastors, many of whom grew weary with the churchy, compartmentalized version of church in which they were leaders. The writing is funny, even irreverent at times, and will open your eyes to how the church is changing and forming at the forefront of culture. It will definitely challenge you to rethink the ...

Great book. Good for our generation
This book is great. A friend of mine did a class using this book at our church and while I would've attended I couldn't since I was teaching an apologetics class at the same time. Anyway, I picked up the book and started to go through it and must say that I love it. Mark and Gary do a great job of including content that is both funny yet convicting at the same time. They use 'modern' terms to ...

5 people, 5 viewpoints, good reading
Five writers, all involved in energing churches, state the distinctive features of their beliefs and organizational style, then critique each other. They range from quite Biblical/conservative to somewhat liberal and differ on their emphasis on belief and relationship. It's an easy-to-read introduction to the diversity yet central tendancy of "emerging churches" The editor's introduction is ...

Great Intorduction to the Old Testament
The pace of modern life leaves many of us feeling that we don't have very much available time. When it comes to learning more about the Bible and in this case the Old Testament, many people have good intentions, but often feel intimidated by the subject matter or bound by their lack of available time. If this sounds like you, then I'd highly recommend this small book. At only 96 pages, you ...

Classic Driscoll
Mark Driscoll's engaging "Vintage Jesus: Timeless Answers to Timely Questions" is a bold answer for those who believe the Church should remain culturally relevant as it proclaims Truth.
