A good buy
I purchased this item by recommendation of my voice teacher, and have been pleased with it. The CD is at times a little hard to follow along with only because of the interpretation of the performer. Once you learn where their hidden ritardandos and other little "personality" inputs are, it is a pleasure to sing to. The music itself is very pretty, although I enjoy the "10 Christmas Songs ...
Mark Hayes Carols for the Intermediate Pianist: Seasonal Settings that Warm the Heart
Mark Hayes
Lorenz Publishing Company
, 2007
Echoing the success of the first "Mark Hayes for the Intermediate Pianist," a collection of hymn settings, is this new collection of Christmas carols just in time for the Advent and Christmas season. Hayes has written creative, fresh settings of familiar carols that sound hard but are easily played by intermediate and advanced players alike. Special attention is given to smaller-handed pianistsā?¦no excessive use of octaves, no large leaps or ...

Gorgeous Arrangements
This booklet contains 3 arrangements, all somewhat leaning to a more classical side of Hayes. Wow!! Can't help wishing that he'd show us even more of this side of himself!! These pieces are very vibrant, as the title suggests, and seem to portray so well the spirit of joy in the resurrection of Christ. I would rate the pieces as medium difficult, with plenty of big chords and octave runs and ...

Level 2 * A year ago, we asked several of the top composers of sacred music today to choose two of their favorite hymns and create fresh settings to be included in a new collection, Hymns We Love. The response was phenomenal. As a logical continuation of the series, this year we asked for new settings of two of their favorite carols. As before, we also requested that the composers tell us why they picked their two carols and perhaps why they ...

Great Selections for Christmas
For a medium difficult level, this is a wonderful selection of sacred and secular Christmas music. The music can be easily improvised to a more advanced and grand sound. My favorite is Oh Holy Night beautifully arranged by Bill Wolaver filled with a simple melody line with light jazz chords and a few very well placed runs.

Mark Hayes does it again!
Mark Hayes has given some beautiful hymns a new sound and has done it without a lot of fancy, showy, "rip up the piano" type of arrangements. His simple, yet gorgeous arrangements have made his style refreshing. The timing has been changed just a little and the harmonies with a twist make these well-loved hymns take on a new flavor without losing the meaning that have made them so well loved. ...

Simply the Very Best
The Mark Hayes series simply cannot be beaten for quality piano arrangements, including the accompanying CD tracks. I use them for myself and my voice students, and my only wish is that the medium high arrangements were actually a little higher - they really are medium voiced, rather than medium high - but they are quite good for teaching younger students who don't really scale the heights yet, ...

It's a Treasure
Mark Hayes is a master of creating arrangements that reflect the message of the song rather than simply showing off the talent of the performer. I have used his music arrangements constantly during the last 20 years, and I buy all his new arrangements the minute they come out. Not only do I use these transcriptions for my own piano solo work, but I also utilize them as topnotch accompaniments ...

Not for the faint of heart!
This is an amazing Christmas collection! It's intended for solo voice, but I use it for my flute soloist and hunt around for a low part for my cellist, with me on the piano. We positively love this book. In my opinion, it is more challenging than Mr. Hayes other works. But this book is so worth the extra "work outs" required for tough little sections. My all-time favorite song in this ...

Fabulous, and challenging, jazz piano arrangements
Any pianist who plays in a contemporary church setting is familiar with Mark Hayes. His books of piano arrangements have a long history, and Mark is also a versatile arranger for choir, and other areas. I have quite an extensive classical and sacred piano background; but my one (admitted) weakness is jazz. This book is fabulous. The arrangmeents are all of familiar numbers, and particularly ...
Natural Gas and Geopolitics: From 1970 to 2040
Cambridge University Press
, 2008
By most estimates, global consumption of natural gas - a cleaner-burning alternative to coal and oil - will double by 2030. However, in North America, Europe, China, and South and East Asia, which are the areas of highest-expected demand, the projected consumption of gas is expected to far outstrip indigenous supplies. Delivering gas from the world's major reserves to the future demand centres will require a major expansion of inter-regional, ...

Level 2 Here s the eagerly-awaited new volume in the series that began with Hymns We Love and continued with Carols We Love. Once again, our team of top arrangers has chosen a dozen great hymns, this time focusing on the great Gospel tradition that began in 19th-century America. As expected, the team has come up with a satisfying blend of moods and styles, making this a versatile addition to your library. And as in previous volumes, each song is ...

Fantastic collection
This is a wonderful collection, inexpensive considering it comes with a sing along orchestral cd that is very high quality and very musical. These are really less solos, though, then they are anthems adapted for solo voice. You can find anthem versions of each from the same publisher. The huge upside to this is that you can purchase the anthems and then use the cd as accompaniment also, ...

One of my favorite hymn collections
This collection has a nice variety of hymns and arrangers. A few of the less-common hymns are included. Arrangements are musically interesting and only moderately difficult (I was an undergrad piano major and am able to play them with very little practice) while still sounding impressive. I use this book quite frequently for offertories.

Excellant job! Worth buying.
I first purchased the "10 Hymns and Gospel Songs for Solo Voice", and then purchased this set a few weeks after. I absolutely love these arrangements; they are very festive, joyful, meditative and...beautiful. The arrangement of "O Holy Night" is wonderful, the arrangment of "Silent Night" has optional German words with it, there are a few medleys which one includes "For Unto Us a Child Is ...
