The Interface of Social and Clinical Psychology: Key Readings
Taylor & Francis, 2007
Since the earliest days of the discipline, psychologists with a variety of theoretical orientations have recognized that interpersonal factors play a role in the origin and maintenance of emotional and behavioral problems as well as in the diagnostic and therapeutic activities through which mental health professionals treat psychological difficulties. Yet, despite recognition that interpersonal processes are relevant to understanding and ...

Social Perspective
Residing in a international, cross cultural environment, I required a comprehensive and concise study of the social perspective on emotional and behavioral studies. This book was recommended by my advisor. I recommend it here. The editors bring the structuralist and interactionist perspectives of sociology into psychology with the contributing writers in the most illucidating manner. Even if I ...

A Masterful Work
Pinel's Biopsychology is a masterful work. I can only imagine the immense amount of time and effort that has gone into it. I don't think you can find another book in this field that appeals to such a wide range of readers. I have used this book and previous editions of it as the primary text in the graduate Biopsychology courses I have taught over the past 8 years. This book has consistently ...

Excellent Research Literature Review
Rather than being a book on social anxiety from the clinical perspective, this compendium looks at the condition primarily from the social psychological perspective. In doing so, it covers the interpersonal basis of social anxiety and looks at how self-presentation, expectancies, self-efficacy, interpersonal behavior, and motivation contribute to the subjective aspects of social anxiety - ...

Inexcusable!
I've never come across a textbook with so many mathematical and typographical errors! It was absolutely infuriating! We could never trust what the book gave as a solution to an exercise. If the authors would fix these errors it would be a decent text.

Curse of the self
I found this book very easy to read and interesting. A wide variety of references were mentioned from the social psychology field, and although some of the research described seemed a little trite, overall it was well worth reading. I was particularly taken with the notion of self-control depletion, which I had never heard of before. It was the early 1970s that I did my undergraduate psychology ...
The State of Social Psychology: Issues, Themes, and Controversies
Mark R. Leary
Sage Publications, Inc
, 1989
`shows that we are in the midst of a period of thoughtful reflection about the field of social psychology... Particularly impressive are the nuanced terms in which authors discuss the processes by which the discipline develops and its practitioners identify problems as central or peripheral. Also, (the) highlighting of Thibaut's view that social psychology will become the fundamental social science is an optimistic feature of these articles' - ...
Introduction to Behavioral Research Methods (3rd Edition)
Mark R. Leary
Allyn & Bacon
, 2000
Research Methodology is not an inherently interesting topic. This book counteracts the natural tendency to shy away from research with an understandable, palatable, useful, and interesting, and above all, readable attempt to explain research methods. Knowing proper research methodology comes from an understanding of basic statistical principles, research design, measurement, descriptive studies, and scientific writing. This book ...
Self Presentation: Impression Management and Interpersonal Behavior (Social Psychology Series)
Mark R. Leary
Westview Pr (Short Disc)
, 1996
People have a pervasive and ongoing concern with how they are perceived and evaluated by others. No matter what they are doing, people typically desire to make certain impressions on other people, and this focus on social images underlies a great deal of human behavior. Mark Leary offers a thorough, integrative review of the antecedents and consequences of self-presentation, examining why we are concerned with our public images and how our ...

This text provides an integrative survey of the burgeoning social-psychological literature on the self. By way of an introduction, the authors establish the intellectual climate that gave rise to contemporary perspectives on the self and integrate early and more recent research on the nature of the self-system. The core of the text surveys the literature on the function of the self as a basis for evaluating social and personal experience and ...
Understanding Social Anxiety: Social, Personality, and Clinical Perspectives (SAGE Library of Social Research)
Mark R. Leary
Sage Publications, Inc
, 1983
Shyness is a universal experience. Incorporating the many different concepts that refer to such experiences under the broader construct of 'social anxiety', Professor Leary performs the unique service of integrating the widely scattered, diverse literature dealing with the topic. He examines both basic and applied research, and presents timely recommendations for assessment, treatment and research. An important resource for researchers and ...
Interpersonal Rejection
Oxford University Press, USA
, 2006
Interpersonal rejection ranks among the most potent and distressing events that people experience. Romantic rejection, ostracism, stigmatization, job termination, and other kinds of rejections have the power to compromise the quality of people's lives. As a result, people are highly motivated to avoid social rejection, and, indeed, much of human behavior appears to be designed to avoid such experiences. Yet, despite the widespread effects of ...
