Off-the-wall titles are confusing, and there's a dearth of teaching strategies. Too many samples are given (good samples), but the form and content of each is not analyzed, nor are the levels of language classification of the students' samples been given.

excellent boost for cultural literacy
We'll be using this in our homeschooling this year. The book covers foundational philosophy, figures, writings for a wide range of cultures; not just western, but Asian and Sub-Saharan as well. It should help fill in the gaps in my own cultural literacy.
