Encyclopedia Prehistorica Dinosaurs: The Definitive Pop-Up148 reviews

Candlewick, 2005

Adopted Japanese grandson
Enjoyed greatly by a 10 year old Japanese boy who lives in Chiba, Japan. He also practices his English with the delightful pop-ups.

Encyclopedia Prehistorica: Sharks and Other Sea Monsters38 reviews
Robert Sabuda, Matthew Reinhart

Candlewick, 2006

A must for your pop-up collection
I'm an avid pop up collector (or my little boy is, but I get as excited as he does when we get another one) and this is as wonderful as the other Sabuda books. It's holding up well even though I have to pretend to attack my son whenever we get to the huge set of shark jaws; these books are not as fragile as you'd think.

Star Wars Pop Up Limited Edition1 review
Matthew Reinhart

Scholastic, 2007

Breathtaking...
This book is simply amazing. I own this Limited Edition and another copy signed by the author. I purchased two others to give as gifts to my teen-age grandsons. Guests in my house have looked through this book and given gasps of surprise when they view the intricacy of the mechanisms to be found on each page, and the last page -featuring Darth Vader and the light sabers, actually drew applause ...

The Jungle Book (Limited Edition): A Pop-up Adventure14 reviews

Little Simon, 2006

Jungle Book Pop Up Book
This was ordered as a Christmas gift for my grandchildren. It looked great when it arrived. I'm sure they will love it.

Cinderella (Limited Edition): A Pop-Up Fairy Tale38 reviews

Little Simon, 2005

Heirloom Quality Book
This is one special book! The pop-ups are unbelievably beautiful...and so many of them! Handling this book will probably require supervision for the young reader but, with care, should be around to delight and entertain for many years. They didn't skimp on the story just to hi-light the pop-ups, either. It's complete and well told. Sharing this book with a child will make for some quality time ...

Star Wars: A Pop-Up Guide to the Galaxy179 reviews
Matthew Reinhart

Orchard Books, 2007

Guido Didn't Shot First
I bought this for my nephews, 3 and 7, and they love it. Even though their parents won't let them watch Star Wars yet, they love being introduced to all these characters through this book. The pop-ups are intricate and amazing. The multiple layers within layers on just one page is evidenced by the thickness of this book. The pop-ups cascade out to reveal a surprising number of characters ...

Young Naturalist's Pop-Up Handbook: Beetles - Book #1 (Young Naturalist's Handbook)11 reviews
Matthew Reinhart, Robert Sabuda

Hyperion, 2001

Great Book
I bought this book for my daughter last Christmas. We still read it at bedtime. The paper butterflies are beautiful and tough. The writing is factual and engaging and the butterflies have kept their shape and stood-up pretty well to little hands bending, pushing, and pulling. The paper butterfly which comes with the book is nice too. We also have the "Beetle" book, which is pretty spectacular as ...

Encyclopedia Prehistorica Mega-Beasts (Encyclopedia Prehistorica)27 reviews

Candlewick, 2007

Great boy book
I love all the books by Robert Sabuda. My grandchildren are fascinated by his pop-ups. They are beyond anything I've seen in any other pop up books. My grandsons ages 13 to 7 love to look at the beasts as well as the dinosaurs in his last book. They also love all his other books on various subjects. The "Wizard of Oz" was a real favorite. Don't hesitate to start a library of his books. The ...

The Pop-Up Book of Phobias53 reviews
Gary Greenberg

HarperEntertainment, 1999

Inventive, Creative, and a little Macabre!
We gave this as a gift to a family member who is a therapist. He absolutely loved it. We sat around and looked at it together and got lots of laughs out of it. The unique perspective of the artist, portraying anything from clowns to germy bathrooms (don't worry, the toilet isn't TOOOO gross if you know what I mean....) There is one page that makes you feel as if you are standing on top of a very ...

Young Naturalist's Handbook: Insect-lo-pedia1 review

Hyperion, 2003

For the aspiring entomologist!
My four-year old grandson thinks this book is wonderful. He does love bugs and this author makes them fun and the book is educational too.

Encyclopedia Mythologica: Fairies and Magical Creatures (Encyclopedia Mythologica)4 reviews
Matthew Reinhart, Robert Sabuda

Walker Books Ltd, 2008

another great one
I'll admit I've become a little jaded regarding Sabuda's books. How can he possibly top some of the earlier ones? This one doesn't disappoint though.

Animal Popposites: A Pop-Up Book of Opposites2 reviews

Little Simon, 2002

Great Pop Ups
While the pop ups in this book are indeed a bit fragile, they are amazingly engineered and will fascinate both you and your child. The illustrations are bold and fun, but the remarkable pop ups are definitely what make this book great. My 15 month old is absolutely obsessed with this book, though I do have to constantly remind her to be gentle with it.

The Pop-Up Book of Nightmares16 reviews
Gary Greenberg, Matthew Reinhart, 1999

Pop up nightmares
I am always on the lookout for new children's books, and especially love popups! My children are all grown, but I have two small grandsons, and I teach children's literature to college students. (HOWEVER, I would never recommend putting ANY popup book that is this intricate into the hands of a toddler.) This book is not for small children, anyway, but a real hoot to adults. I also used this book ...

The Chronicles of Narnia Pop-up: Based on the Books by C. S. Lewis (Narnia)36 reviews
C. S. Lewis

HarperCollins, 2007

You can't go wrong with THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA POP-UP as a gift this holiday season.
THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA pop-up book begins with a roar --- almost literally. In a two-page spread that chronicles the creation of Narnia, a splendid Aslan the lion practically leaps off the page as planets swirl and flowers and plants burst into life. It's a magnificent beginning to this superb pop-up overview of Lewis's novels, with paper engineering by Robert Sabuda. Each of Lewis's novels ...
