Excellent macrobiotic cookbook
I own multiple macrobiotic cookbooks, and this one is the one I come to time and time again. Learning about the specialty ingredients in macrobiotic cooking is tricky, but once you have found a source of these ingredients, the recipes in this book are simple and tasty. The thing I like most about this book is the simplicity of the recipes. Most of the recipes call for the same 4-5 cooking ...

Very good book
The book was all I have expected. Beside the theory and photos of th do-in practice, there is a first half of the book dedicated to the fundamentals of macrobiotics, breathing exercises, basic diagnostic, etc. the only thing I didn like so much was th quality of the photos: they seem like they were taken in the 1970's!!!

Larger than Life
Macrobiotics first had its roots in America when Michio and his wife, Avelin came to this country in the 1950's with a vision that was "larger than life". Macro-bio-tics is exactly that. And the Macrobiotic Diet, as described in this book (among the many that exist today) is one that doesn't just center around the do's and don'ts of proper eating. It is a lifestyle; it is a way to think ...

great book
This book is a fabulous book , i highly recommend it. First off, it is beautifully laid out with the pictures and design. The book explains macrobiotics-- theory and diet, very well. Also, the recipes in the back section were great. I have made a few already. One of the best sections discusses how to be more efficient in macrobiotic cooking and meal preparation. Read it if you have cancer.
Eighteen years ago I began the macrobiotic diet and lifestyle after attending a "Diet and Cancer" seminar and having a consultation with Michio Kushi. It was 9 months after I found a lump in my breast. I also did a lot of work on myself in order to heal but the diet was/is crucial as well. I am glad I eat that way, even now! I had the lumps taken out but no radiation or chemotherapy.

The most thorough treatise on the subject
This book does an excellent job of summarizing and organizing all of the work done by Michio Kushi and others over the span of decades working with cancer patients. Though Macrobiotics is based on much Japanese culture, this book is geared to the westernized/American reader so there is very little in the way of cultural chasm to jump over. Many of the reviews up here are rather ill-informed. ...

Full of useful information
I found this book to be extremely helpful and very easy to read. It's advice was very practical and made alot of sense. Especially helpful for the beginner gardner, helps plan out longer growing seasons, and planting dates so you don't get one type of crop in all at the same time. A must read if you want to know what plants to grow, and the best way to do it.

Beware of know-alls!
Macrobiotics has worsened considerably my long term weight problem. It's true that my medical condition is rare and it took a loooong time to find out but I was eager to belive in macrobiotics, even when it should be obvious that it was doing me no good. Although I followed the advice of many self-proclaimed experts I was getting sicker and heavier... until I decided to listen to my body. I ...
