Selections from Don Quixote (Dual-Language) (Dual-Language Book)
Miguel de Cervantes [Saavedra]

Dover Publications, 1998

Carefully selected passages from one of the great masterpieces of world literature feature the satiric adventures of a would-be knight and his faithful squire. Don Quijote (Norton Critical Editions)21 reviews
Miguel De Cervantes

W. W. Norton, 1999

the best modern translation
I often return to this granddaddy of novels, and consider this particular translation the best. Grossman's translation is stellar, but it lacks the brio, the spirited tone and zeal of BR's rendering. Certainly this translation is sometimes free-and-easy and best serves an American reader, but its rhythm and gusto more than compensate for the flaws an academic might stub her toe on, and that rush ...

Don Quixote (Modern Library Classics)3 reviews

Salman Rushdie ...
... avers that, this, the Tobias Smollett English-language translation most faithfully retains the quixotic and sprightly spirit of the original. Given that life is short and that I will only ever read Don Quixote once, Rushdie's imprimatur is good enough for me.

Don Quijote de la Mancha15 reviews
Miguel de Cervantes

Alfaguara, 2004

A highly entertaining, unforgettable masterpiece
I read Don Quijote in Spanish (my native language) and actually started the book as a sort of challenge. I am not daunted by long books or by the classics, but I was afraid I would not care much for the story of the madman who fancies himself a knight after reading too many chivalry novels. I started out with a lot of dread - the language is old-fashioned and it needs a little getting used to. ...

Don Quixote de La Mancha (Modern Library)95 reviews
Miguel De Cervantes Saavedra

Modern Library, 1998

Beautiful!
The translation is perfect except, as the translator has noted, on the poems found through out the book. The book itself is just plain beautiful, the author, Cervantes, is a master of prose and creativity, not to mention he has a great sense of humor. In my opinion, he is not too far off from Shakespeare. A+

Don Quixote (Penguin Classics)24 reviews
Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra

Penguin Classics, 2003

Without discretion there can be no humor
'Don Quixote' is largely considered to be a satire on the popular chivalric ballads of Cervantes' day, but don't be fooled. This novel is no satire on chivalry, itself. Indeed, through the trials of Quixote and Sancho Panza, Cervantes is perhaps the greatest promoter of chivalric ideas that the West has ever known. No other protagonist so thoroughly embodies the ideals of heroism, romantic love, ...

Don Quixote (Signet Classics)6 reviews

Signet Classics, 2003

Don Quixote
This certainly was one of the more entertaining books I've read. The adventures of Sancho and Don Quixote were very well written, funny, and has captured the hearts of millions throughout the centuries. Don Quixote is a madman who believes himself to be a knight-errant destined to return the world to the prior "order". Immediately he gets dressed up in a very silly fashion and starts by ...

this version of don quijote isn't just for middle schoolers!!! i firmly believe that this is more of a high school level book. the questions are not very good. i ditched this book as soon as i glanced over it. worth it if you want to put in the effort to make it work for your class.

Novelas Ejemplares II
Miguel De Cervantes

Catedra, 2006

Cervantes: Exemplary Stories (Penguin Classics)1 review
Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra

Penguin Classics, 1986

charming stories
Those are beautiful, charming stories about life and characters in Cervantes's time, perfectly despicted. I would suggest to read them in Spanish so as not to loose the amazing prose of the author. I read The Little Gipsy Girl when I was a child and still remember the magic of the story.
