A great tool for a great class
I bought this book for a class this semester. The first minute I opened the book I was intrigued with all the tables, figures and pictures aside from all of the other information that makes this book a great tool in my glacial geology class. I'd advise this book for any geology student who wants to add to their unending libraries of college textbooks.

Great book
I ordered this book because amazon.com bundled it with « Beginning PHP and PostgreSQL 8 ». I must admit I was happily surprised. It's definitely more than a copy of the PostgreSQL manual. Explanations are simple to understand. There's a chapter on database design, something really important to me. Something that surprises me too is the big part on languages. The PostgreSQL manual focused on ...

Stardust VS Stardust Visual Companion
I have been a fan of Stardust Stardust since 1999. Neil Gaiman and Charles Vess created a Faery Tale which I will cherish. And with the coming Movie by Matthew Vaughn, I was pleasantly surprised to pick up the Stardust Visual Companion Stardust: The Visual Companion (Stardust) by Stephen Jones. The production design sketches and notes as well as the production photos are a treasure. Charles ...

Great book
I bought this book 1996 when I was in high school. It was challenging, and now when I returned to it in 2006, I realize how much I skipped on my 96' reading. The great thing with this book (at least the 96 edition) is that is has such a nice flow. You will learn the concepts of Unix programming, introduced in a perfect order and pace. The source code compiles with no problems.

Get to know the historical Jesus
I feel blessed to have purchased this book. For most of my life I have been a member of a conservative Protestant church where Jesus was so high above me, I seemed unable to feel a connection. However, about five years ago, I began to read scholarly books and attend lectures about the man Jesus and have gotten a much clearer picture of him and his life. This little book by Neil Douglas Klotz ...

Cliff Notes on OMA
"What is OMA?" - a collection of writings by varied individuals about Rem Koolhaas and the Office for Metropolitan Architecture - unfortunately amounts to Cliff Notes about the said architect and his design firm. Admittedly, when I bought "What is OMA?" I thought that the book would be an interesting discussion about the work and theories of Rem Koolhaas and the Office for Metropolitan ...

Excellent, Detailed, and Easy to understand...
I was already familiar with Data Warehousing before I bought this book. However, this book takes you step by step, in detail, through every step of the data warehousing process. The "tips" section throughout the text offer insightful clues for what to watch out for and help for a successful data warehouse project. I would recommed this book for the amatuer as well as the advanced reader.

Playing Music By Ear
I teach beginning students to play guitar by ear, and I offer this book as a study aid for my class. I've played music professionally since I was fourteen years old. It took me many years to learn the concepts that are taught in the Nashville Numbering System. Using this book, beginners may understand some of the most important concepts about chord progressions and changing keys in a relatively ...

excellent balance of depth and breadth
instant unix is well paced, and covers enough detail to be useful beyond the introductory level. I have read two other unix books of an introductory level and instant unix is far superior, and very well organized.

For Beginners but good
I wanted a book to get me workng with MySQL. This book was adequate and very quickly got me chugging mysql commands. Although not really administrative material, its good enough to get one familiarized with the essentials. Got some good looking tutorials and sample code to go with each one. Perfect book if you are a database newbie(the intro to databases could be invaluable) and need to manage a ...

The best database book I have ever read
My most favorites PostgreSQL book and even can be used for the beginner to learn about the database design as well as some of the good SQL statements (I have learnt some of the SQL commands from this book for my PHP and MySql web application). The spoon-feeding style of explanation is very clear and lots of examples will help any beginner up and running in no time! I am waiting for the second ...
