A New "Business Classic"
Those who are familiar with my reviews of other business books already know that on several dozen occasions, I have strongly recommended The Leadership Engine (1997) which Tichy wrote with Eli Cohen and Nancy Cardwell. He teams up with her again in this book, expanding and enriching his concept of leadership development at all levels throughout any organization, regardless of its size or nature. ...

A very useful framework for thinking through judgment and leadership
If you are a manager who wants to develop the skills of executive management, this book is for you. The authors provide a methodology that is not simple, but still quite understandable. It would be ideal for a course of MBA or Executive MBA students wanting to get a framework for decision making. The book has 13 chapters and then a handbook. The handbook is designed to help you take the ...

A practical approach to leaderhship.
Tichy and Devanna have produced an easy to read, practical text on leadership. The book demonstrates knowledge of leaderhship studies and research, but is written in a practical, applicable form. A great job of applying the sometimes nebulous subject of leadership into a very readable and useful text!

Every Leader should read this...then read again!
This is one of my favorite leadership books by two authors with whom I have a great deal of respect for their advice. The premise of the book it that by looking at the entire business landscape affecting your clients, there are larger opportunities in which to solve the client's CEO issues beyond the immediate customer orders. Written with real world examples, some of which were first hand ...

Ok, but others are better.
This is a book of essays on business ethics that suffers badly from the limitations of the genre - 'you write about this aspect, he'll write about that, she'll write about the other'. The result, inevitably, is a set of parts that fail to make a whole, even though some of the parts are good. It is mostly written in a folksy style with a lot of personal anecdote, which will appeal to some. In ...
Companies Don't Develop Leaders--CEOs Do: An Interview with Noel Tichy
Noel M. Tichy,
Tom Brown
Harvard Business Review
, 1997
Noel Tichy, professor of organizational behavior at the University of Michigan and author of Control Your Own Destiny, discusses the importance of the CEO's role in leadership development. Tichy asserts that the best people in the company to educate and develop future leaders are those who have a record of success that others can learn from. Tichy promotes "the teachable point of view": These leaders possess a base of knowledge about business ...
