Highly regarded
I haven't read this book myself, but it comes highly recommended in "The Ethics of Authenticity", by the noted philosopher Charles Taylor, who says in a footnote that "I have drawn a lot on the penetrating discussion in Benner and Wrubel, The Primacy of Caring, which shows how much philosophy can contribute to a new enframing of instrumental reason of the kind I am discussing here."

To Care or Not to Care
A review by Eric Newell April 10, 2002 The Crisis of Care is moving away from the technological, managerial aspect of caring. The need is to restore the concern and compassion for the need of the care receiver. Persons care for the wrong reasons. If it is not the aspect of filling the prescribed attention to a patient, very often there is the one who is interested to help or assist because ...

Comprehension for all
The book utilizes various strategies to assist students with reading comprehension. The examples are easy to understand and they allow for students to develop and test concepts taught. The book has been extremely helpful for students with disabilities who struggle with reading comprehension. If one approach does not work there was always another approach provided by the author. I've used ...

A wonderful reference book
I bought this book as a registered nurse that is fairly new to the critical care field, and the first night I had it, it came in handy. By reading a few pages before going to work about being a "detective" to find out the cause of changes in a pt's condition, I was able to avert a more serious complication. I enjoyed the narrative descriptions by nurses in various settings of the critical care ...

Should be required reading for all RN's
This book should be required reading for all nurses in all nursing programs. It is an unspoken nursing student idea that when you graduate from your nursing program that you should, "know it all." This is unrealistic for the new/novice nurse. This book explains the process and gives comfort the the new nurse that expecting you to "know it all" is unreasonable and is not an expectation of the ...

The need for caregiving is enormous. Thanks to extraordinary advances in medical technology, Americans are surviving illnesses and injuries that would have killed them a generation ago, and more of us are living into our eighties and nineties than ever before. Yet most people over sixty-five live with the burden of one or more chronic illness. The problems created by the caregiving needs of these and other groups are at the center of several of ...
