Not so great. Thanks.
It's got really bad binding and it's usually incomprehensible. I am good at math, but I got really lost when I tried to use it to figure anything out...but nice try, Foerster!
Calculus Explorations

Calculus warm-ups and lesson-starters.
This book contains 87 "explorations" which are organized by topic. Each exploration page consists of about 7 problems and the pages are organized by topic. There is an exploration for almost every topic covered in a standard calculus class. The solutions are concisely and thoroughly written. Overall, I think the authors have done an excellent job writing this book.

trying to save my son's back
I bought this book to use as a "home copy" for my son's algebra II class. It is a hefty textbook and his school chooses not to buy a class room set. He already has his backpack stuffed to the gills, so for a small sum I lightened his load.

It's ok.
The book is okay, not really great or bad. Just that it contains too many practice problems that do not derive from concrete examples because either the examples aren't plentiful enough or there is none of them. I hate those warm-up questions because there is usually no background information first. I especially liked the inclusion of harmonic analysis where I could learn how to construct ...

Provides a strong foundation in algebra.
Foerster's text provides the student with a strong foundation in algebra. Topics are introduced incrementally. Before Foerster introduces a new idea, he first makes sure that the reader has a strong understanding of the concepts on which the new idea is based. His exposition, which can seem pedantic at times, is clear and effective. The numerous examples he provides are explained in ...

An excellent book from an excellent teacher.
This book made a difficult subject (calculus) easy to understand through its effective use of diagrams, examples, and word problems. I would not have been able to survive Calculus BC AP without it.
