Bridges Are to Cross6 reviews
Philemon Sturges

Putnam Juvenile, 1998

My boys' all time favorite
This is my boys' all time favorite book. Living in NY it's only natural they developed a fascination with bridges. I bought this for them when they were 3+4 yrs old. It's got wonderful illustrations. We found it quite educational too. How many 3+4yr olds do you know that can drive across a bridge in NY and tell you 'this is a steel suspension bridge'! :) Would be a huge hit with the K grade level.

Little Red Hen's Pizza
Looking for a modern take on the traditional tale of the Little Red Hen? This is it! The format is the same but the product is different. Think the ending will be the same? You'll have to read it to find out! Follow the book with making pizza and you'll have a delicious experience.

I Love School!1 review
Philemon Sturges

HarperTrophy, 2006

Fabulous book for kids starting pre-k or kindergarten
My daughter received this when she started pre-K and loved it. It goes through a very busy day at school in a lyrical manner that kids love. The illustrations are perfect. It is a nice back to school gift for your favorite 4 or 5 year old or even to donate to his/her classroom.

Ten Flashing Fireflies2 reviews
Philemon Sturges

North-South / Night Sky Books, 1997

Great book to wind down with on a summer night
This is a wonderful book with FABULOUS nighttime illustrations. It is recommended for 4-8, but my 22-month old loves it and loves to count along with it. She asks for it again and again and even recites bits of it! It is about 2 children catching fireflies, and you also see a host of nocturnal animals as they appear as the dusk fades to dark. At the end the children release them and count them ...

I Love Planes!2 reviews
Philemon Sturges

HarperCollins, 2003

For Imaginative Kids who love air travel
The reviewer who suggests that this book is about a boy with two moms (not that there's anything wrong with that!) is just plain silly. This book is about a boy who loves all kinds of air transportation, including (but not limited to) planes: sea planes, hot air balloons, blimps, jets, and space shuttles. He *imagines* that he is in the cockpit of a jet; he *imagines* he is traveling in a space ...

I Love Trucks!9 reviews
Philemon Sturges

HarperTrophy, 2001

Love this team of author/illustrator!
We discovered this book at the library & took it out so much, we ended up buying our own board book version. It's very loved. Last night my 3 year old son woke up at 4am calling for his "truck book!" And he slept with his arms around it. The illustrations are so simple and clear, and the rhyming is very catchy. I do have to admit that while we like the other books by this pair (Trains, School, ...

Who Took the Cookies from the Cookie Jar?6 reviews
Bonnie Lass, Philemon Sturges

Little, Brown Young Readers, 2000

Who Took the Cookies From the Cookie Jar?
I am a kindergarten teacher and LOVE this book. My students enjoy the repetition of the phrases, "Who me, couldn't be!" and "Mmm... Oh!... Now I know..." as on each page skunk thinks he has solved the mystery of the missing cookies. Clever clues on each page help students predict which friend of skunk will appear on the next page. The happy ending, with all the friends sharing the cookies, ...

I Love Tools!2 reviews
Philemon Sturges

HarperCollins, 2006

MOMMIES CAN SWING A HAMMER TOO!!
I LOVE IT THAT THE BOOK INCLUDES MOMMY AND THE WHOLE FAMILY WORKING ON THE PROJECT, NOT JUST DADDY! THE TWO CHILDREN I GAVE THE BOOK TO ENJOYED IT SO MUCH THAT THEY WANTED TO HEAR IT AGAIN AND AGAIN IMMEDIATELY! THEY HAD FUN FINDING THE 'BIRD' IN EACH PICTURE AND THERE WAS SUFFICIENT SUSPENCE ABOUT WHAT THE FINAL PROJECT TURNED OUT TO BE! THE INSIDES OF THE TWO COVERS SHOW MANY TOOLS FOR ...

I Love Trains10 reviews
Philemon Sturges

HarperTrophy, 2003

A must have
My 2 1/2 year old son has loved this book for over a year, and has it completely mesmorized. I have taped the pages so many times, I am going to have to break down and by another one. The inside cover naming all the diffent types of train cars is awesome. You have to have this book, it is THE BEST.

She'll Be Comin''Round the Mountain5 reviews
Philemon Sturges, Ashley Wolff

Little, Brown Young Readers, 2004

One of the Best of the Year!
This book resembles the old western train ride at Disneyland before they transformed it into "Big Thunder Mountain Railroad." The opening pages have the same desert canyon terrain and hues of tan, umber, gold, yellow, orange, and purple. Illustrator Ashley Wolff places mountain goats in strategic locations (e.g., on top of boulders and natural terraces), an armadillo and a chipmunk read on top ...

How Do You Make a Baby Smile?1 review
Philemon Sturges

A great book for the preschooler. We were introduced to this book at a toddler story time and had to purchase it for home. My son has loved this book from age one. Animals, giggles, and nice pictures to look at! Don't hesistate.

This Little Pirate2 reviews
Philemon Sturges

Dutton Juvenile, 2005

My son loves this book
Yet another library book that we got out so many times for my son, that we decided to buy it. Philemon Sturges is one of my son's favourite authors. Fully recommend this book. It is one of the less wearisome books to read over and over. Should have bought the hard cover instead!!

Sacred Places5 reviews
Philemon Sturges

Putnam Juvenile, 2000

the genius of Giles Laroche
Giles Laroche's numerous books are magical, and this is one of his best. It is also educational, with a clear and well written text by Philomon Sturges. There is a short explanation of the great religions of the world: Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam, and 26 descriptions of the places depicted. A useful world map is on the final page, so one can see exactly where these Sacred ...

I Love Bugs! (Book and Audio CD) (Paperback)
Philemon Sturges

Scholastic Inc., 2006

The collaborative team of Sturges and Halpern introduced massive movers in I Love Trains! and I Love Trucks!. Now they present the wonders of tiny movers. A little boy in a pith helmet, with a camera slung around his neck and bugs all over his shoulders, appears on the cover to set the tone of the exploration that follows. Sturges' story-in-rhyme follows the boy as he notices bugs on the windowsill, bugs outside, daytime bugs, and fireflies at ...
