To Your Scattered Bodies Go (Riverworld Saga, Book 1)74 reviews
Philip Jose Farmer

Del Rey, 1998

Child like wonder mixed with adult wanderlust
If you've ever watched the television series that claims to be about this book series, kindly remove it from your thoughts before you begin. It was a disappointment to me; a serious disappointment! I read this book as a child and I loved it. I read it as a teenager and I loved it. I read it as an adult and I loved it. Just the other day, I was saying to my parents that I have never finished ...

The Green Odyssey4 reviews
Philip Jose Farmer

Boomer Books, 2008

This is a really good book
The storyy is about a human astronaut who crashes on a distant world. This is millenia after the collapse of interstellar travel by humans. This world had evolved into a distinct culture, which has blended in with high tech remnants of it ancestors

The Magic Labyrinth (Riverworld Saga, Book 4)18 reviews
Philip Jose Farmer

Del Rey, 1998

My favorite of the Riverworld sequals
This is the best of the last 4 of the 5 Riverworld novels purely because of the battle that takes place between the two paddle wheel boats. I was able to visualize this more than anything I have ever read, probably because books 2 & 3 lead up to this moment in book 4, and it was rather satisfying to read. If you have read the first 3 books, you'd be a fool if you didn't read "The Magic Labrynth".

The Dark Design
If you like sf, this is the last tale of the classic series. Give it a read.

Venus on the Half-Shell and Others
Philip Jose Farmer

Subterranean, 2008

Venus on the Half-Shell and Others collects for the first time the best of the best from Philip José Farmer's scintillating "fictional-author period." In the mid-1970s a fever-pitched furor was created when an actual novel purported to be by Kilgore Trout -- the sadsack science fiction writer who appears as a character in the works of Kurt Vonnegut -- materialized on the bookracks, complete with a mysterious back cover photo of the author ...

Tarzan Alive: A Definitive Biography of Lord Greystoke (Bison Frontiers of Imagination)13 reviews
Philip Jose Farmer

Bison Books, 2006

Super Reader
This is great. Almost mind-boggling the effort that Farmer has put in, here. Try and find the men with grey eyes. :) G-8 became schizoid after a breakdown, becoming The Shadow and The Spider. That is just fabulous.

The Gods of Riverworld (Riverworld Saga, No 5)16 reviews
Philip Jose Farmer

Del Rey, 1998

Very good
The unfavorable reviews of this book kept me from buying it. But finally I couldn't resist finding out how Farmer closed out the series. Buy, was I pleasently surpirsed. Of the 5 RiverWorld books in the series, book 1 was my favorite while book 5 is my second favorite. Book 5 closes the show sure but what leads to the close is fascinating to me. The discussions the characters have is ...

Myths for the Modern Age: Philip Jose Farmer's Wold Newton Universe11 reviews
Win Scott Eckert, Philip Jose Farmer, ...

MonkeyBrain Books, 2005

Chris Davies is WRONG!
Having read both this book from cover to cover and the reviews that are posted on this sight, I can only conclude that one of the reviewers has an axe to grind with one or more of the writers responsible. Don't let that sway you; this is an excellent book that, yes, occasionally offers up contradictory information - if you take the time to read the introductory portion CAREFULLY, you will note ...

Strange Relations2 reviews
Philip Jose Farmer

Baen, 2008

Early Farmer at is Very Best
This is a collection of three books, the novels THE LOVERS and FLESH and a loose collection of stories called STRANGE RELATIONS, one of which has a Father Carmody story. This handsome edition from Baen should be in everybody's library, everybody, that is, who claims to be a student of science fiction. Farmer was at his best when throwing humans up against alien races in sexual (or reproductive) ...

The Fabulous Riverboat (Riverworld Saga, Book 2)24 reviews
Philip Jose Farmer

Del Rey, 1998

Series gaining strength as it continues
This is Farmer's second offering in his outstanding Riverworld series, five books that must be read together in sequence for the whole story. He continues to develop this fabulous world of a millions mile long river, snaking around and around a planet, hemmed in on each side by unscaleable mountains which force all to live in the river valley. Into this artificially formed world, all humanity who ...

A Feast Unknown9 reviews
Philip Jose Farmer

Rhinoceros Publications, 1995

Pulp Fiction on Acid-- Not For The Faint of Heart!!
Farmer likes to shock, and several of his novels-- this one and "Image of The Beast"-- are his paean to extreme violence and sex in a pulp-fiction setting. If you're open-minded, though, you'll really enjoy this (slightly twisted) Tarzan/Doc Savage story ripped from the deepest recesses of Farmer's id. A familiarity with the two characters is recommedned, though not necessary-- Farmer wrote bios ...

The Other in the Mirror
Philip Jose Farmer

Subterranean, 2009

The Other in the Mirror brings together three classic novels by Philip José Farmer: Fire and the Night, Jesus on Mars, and Night of Light. All three are united by one of SF s central tropes, that of The Other. Fire and the Night is a mainstream novel so rare that even many of Farmer's most dedicated fans have never read it. First published in 1962, it is also one of the author's most daring works, exploring the issue of racial Otherness in a ...

Doc Savage2 reviews
Philip Jose Farmer

Berkley Pub Group (Mm), 1981

definative work on Doc Savage; irreplacable
This book attempts to piece together a variety of authors work into a workable timeline.

Philip Jose Farmer's The Dungeon, Vol. 1: The Black Tower7 reviews
Richard A. Lupoff

Bantam Spectra, 1988

Excellent book, very good series
The first book of the Dungeon series is terrific. Very exciting and interesting, it sets the way for the rest of the series. Characters are fairly well developed, and many plot hooks, unexplained events, characters, and ideas are introduced. This leaves much for the rest of the books in the series. The rest of the books are important for a sense of closure and understanding. The Tower is ...

Riders of the Purple Wage1 review
Philip Jose Farmer

Tor Books, 1992

A gripping future history
After reading the world of tiers and riverworld seires completely, i regarded Phil Farmer as a great science fiction author. then i read "rider of the purple wage". Now i regard him as one of the best science fiction authors. It tells the story of an artist in the far future where there is no need for jobs and people lay on their rumps all day watching the "fido". masterfully written!

The World of Tiers: Volume One (World of Tiers)20 reviews
Philip Jose Farmer

Tor Books, 1996

Vintage Silver Age Adventure
For some reason, Amazon is combining the reviews of both volumes of the World of Tiers instead of storing them separately under the actually-reviewed volume... So don't be confused by reviews of the second volume appearing under the first, and vice versa. The first volume contains the first three books of the series, the Maker of Universes, the Gates of Creation, and A Private Cosmos. People ...

Image of the Beast3 reviews
Philip Jose Farmer

Creation Oneiros, 2007

Raymond Chandler meets DeSade at an Anne Rice cocktail party
I read this book perhaps 15 years ago; it is a re-print, I believe, of an old story of Farmer's called "Blown." (More on that title later.) Fans of P.J. Farmer are familiar with his fascinating attempts to meld canonical fantasy/horror figures with a more current perspective, while throwing in kinky sex and a strong sci-fi overlay. This is a "textbook" example. The protagonist is Harold ...

Venus on the Half-Shell54 reviews
Kilgore Trout, Philip Jose Farmer

Dell, 1975

silly by design
I agree with most ofthe positive reviews of this book. I would just like to add that the real fun of this book is the fact that it is a fictional work supposedly written by a fictional character. It was wonderful to finally sample the literary offering of Kilgore Trout. I think the story itself fits the image of Mr. Trout. Thhis is not an imitation of Vonnegut's style. It is an ...
