Fixing Hell: An Army Psychologist Confronts Abu Ghraib

Fascinating Read!
Finally, someone who has actually been in Guantanamo Bay and Abu Ghraib is talking. This book addressed many of the controversial issues about the war today, namely psychologists and interrogations and the very uncomfortable topic regarding what happened in Abu Ghraib that led to those horrible pictures. Dr. James doesn't provide the military party line about the current administration and ...

A Good Book
This is a good book, but I like Cialdini's "Influence" better. It is more practical.

Outdated but still the best
Being a true-blue shy person, I've ordered every book on shyness I could find. This author seems to be the only one who really knows what he's talking about. The reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it's outdated. The only thing that has changed since I bought this book 10 years ago is it's cover.

The Yahweh effect
As noted on the jacket, "Psychologist Zimbardo masterminded the famous Stanford Prison Experiment, in which college students randomly assigned to be guards or inmates found themselves enacting sadistic abuse or abject submissiveness." Prof. Zimbardo's lab subjects were American college students--your ordinary, beer-drinking, fun-loving, fornicating liberal humanists. What possessed them to ...

Very compelling
The authors' use of case studies and real-life examples makes this more than a textbook -- and much more readable than one. I found myself excited about reading each chapter. And I know I'll be looking up things in it in the future. My only quibble is that I found many copyediting errors that I hope the publisher will fix for future editions.
The Time Paradox: The New Psychology of Time That Will Change Your Life

Well worth the time . . .
I highly recommend this book! The Time Paradox is a great read and contains interesting stats and suggestions for gaining a "healthier time perspective". In addition to giving me new eyes with which I view and use my time, it answers questions about mine & my husband's differences. I am able to better understand why he does or doesn't do some things, and I understand why it's so instinctive for ...

Zimbardo's Shy Child is the ONLY book you need
Professor Philip Zimbardo has done it again! His The Shy Child offers great ideas and insight into shyness and its origins. He analyzes the development and shyness and its effects on youth. It is a great tool for parents and anyone interested in discovering how shyness affets children. I can't imagine an easier to read book that is chock full of the details Zimbardo has placed in this one. ...

The Lucifer Effect Understanding How Good People Turn Evil
Philip Zimbardo
Random House
, 2007
"The Lucifer Effect raises a fundamental question about the nature of human nature: How is it possible for ordinary, average, even good people to become perpetrators of evil? In trying to understand unusual, or aberrant behavior, we often err in focusing exclusively on the inner determinants of genes, personality, and character, as we also tend to ignore what may be the critical catalyst for behavior change in the external Situation or in the ...
