The Green Machine.6 reviews
Polly Cameron

Putnam Pub Group Library, 1969

veggie rhymes
I bought the book at a tagsale because I liked "chitty chitty bang bang" on the cover. My son, who is 4, loves it because of the relentless rhymes and the great humor. Parts are written in all capital letters so it's easier for him to sound out the names of the vegetables he doesn't know. I love it because he's learning his vegetables and he's playing with the sounds of words, and the drawings ...

I Can't Said The Ant27 reviews
Polly Cameron

Scholastic Inc., 1948

A New Generation of "ant" lovers!
How can I resist adding my comments, after reading how many others went in search of this book for exactly the same reason I did! I have a old, tattered copy from my childhood that I recently pulled out to read to my 3 1/2 yr. old, thinking he was finally old enough to listen to it. He listened intently, asking all about why the teapot fell and what the spiders were doing... and when we came to ...

The 2 Ton Canary & Other Nonsense Riddles1 review
Polly Cameron

Coward, McCann & Geoghegan, 1965

kid jokes
Great, silly kid jokes that my husband & I like a lot, and the artwork is very appealing, too. I was put off by the 2 weapon jokes, though I recognize that I told similar jokes when I was little. It's so dissonant with what we tell our son, though, that I'm shelving this book away from the ones we read with him.

Cat Who Thought He Was a Tiger2 reviews
Polly Cameron

Deutsch, 1970

when we try to be something we're not.
A superb book that shows how a kitten rejects his siblings and boy/girl "parents" and tries to be a tiger. He endures the privations of sleeping outside and eating grass because "that's what tigers do". In this very easy to read book, only 2 or 3 sentances per page this theme is repeated until at the end he meets a tiger in the zoo. Then he gets frightened and realises that he isn't really a ...

"I Can't" Said the Ant
Polly Cameron

Scholastic, 1975

"Teapot fell," said the dinner bell. / "Is she dead?" asked the bread. / "Broke her spout," said the trout. / "Push her up," said the cup. / "I can't," said the ant. / "Please try," said the pie. "You'll have fun," with this one!
