The Reformation Study Bible: English Standard Version61 reviews
Published by Ligonier Ministries General Editor-R. C. Sproul

P & R Publishing, 2005

Most informative bible information
This bible has by far the most interesting, informative, and accurate commentary notes of any bible I have ever owned. It gives an excellent perspective of the text from a reformed viewpoint. I highly recommend it. If there would be any negative comments, it would be that the page paper is a little thin for my preference. But, the content far outweighs that negative.

Five Things Every Christian Needs to Grow, Revised & Expanded4 reviews
R. C. Sproul

Reformation Trust Publishing, 2008

Introductory Wisdom for the Christian Life
5 Things Every Christian Needs to Grow is a book about Christians and farming. R.C. Sproul suggests five things that every Christian needs to grow--barley, wheat, corn... OK, I'm just kidding. But don't you think the strangely ambiguous title could fit such a book? In reality, 5 Things Every Christian Needs to Grow is a reprint of a small book published in 2002 by Thomas Nelson. Revised, expanded ...

The Lightlings3 reviews
R. C. Sproul

Ligonier Ministries, 2006

Great for Snuggle-time Reading
Here we have two of my favorites rolled into one--stories about Christmas, and stories for children. R.C. Sproul--pastor, teacher, founder of Ligonier Ministries, and radio/tv personality from Renewing Your Mind--has penned a pleasant little allegory that speaks to children. He teams up with artist Justin Gerard to present this book for children dealing with fear of the dark. I'll start with ...

Reason to Believe: A Response to Common Objections to Christianity5 reviews
R. C. Sproul

Zondervan, 1982

Colloquial Apologetics
Sproul's accomplishes two things with this book. He manages to instruct Christians into the dilemmas of their faith while at the same time providing a way for them to be able to refute the objections skeptics pose to their religion. All of this is done in fairly colloquial language which augments the validity and credibility of the book: Christians have good answers for the tough questions and ...

Chosen by God85 reviews
R. C. Sproul

Tyndale House Publishers, 1994

Logical Progressions Should Not Be Ignored
I have just completed my reading of reading R.C. Sproul's Chosen By God. Before I get into specifics, I would like to say up front that I absolutely loved this book. From the front cover, it's not difficult to decipher what this book is about. It's about predestination. Although the tagline may be a bit cheesy, "Know God's perfect plan for His glory and His children"; I think it might carry ...

Defending Your Faith: An Introduction to Apologetics10 reviews
R. C. Sproul

Crossway Books, 2003

Review of Defending your Faith, by RC Sproul
A must for the students who are learning apologetics and those who are aquainted with the suject. RC Sproul submits the subject in a format that is scholerly and readable at the same time. A must read for any who desire to understand what they believe and be able to defend it before those who would oppose it.

The Prince's Poison Cup1 review
R. C. Sproul

Reformation Trust Publishing, 2008

Story within the Story is good. Not so much the story without
R. C. Sproul, Bible teacher, prolific author, and founder of Ligonier Ministries, has turned his hand to children's books on several occasions. And I must say that I was pleased with his 2006 story The Lightlings which allegorized the Christmas story. So when I had an opportunity to examine this new children's story by Sproul I was expecting great things. As with the previous children's book ...

The Truth of the Cross10 reviews
R C Sproul

Ligonier Ministries, 2007

The Truth
In a day and age in which the Cross has been down played entirely or simply used as a band aid to patch every want and need imaginable, R. C. Sproul has written a timely and concise book dealing with the subject of the Atonement. This book is rich in theology while at the same time it remains easy to understand. Dr. Sproul tells us why he chose this time period to write this book when he says ...

The Consequences of Ideas: Understanding the Concepts that Shaped Our World24 reviews
R. C. Sproul

Crossway Books, 2000

Finally something that makes sense
I have tired to make sense of this subject several times. My eyes usual cross about the time the author begins talking about reality and non-reality. THIS BOOK makes sense of all of that. If you are like me, you know you should have a working knowledge of philosophy for your job (pastoring a church in my case, but the idea of hitting all those books make you gag. This is the one to read to ...

Truths We Confess 3 volume set2 reviews
R C Sproul

P & R Press, 2007

Sproul at his best
From 1643-1646 English and Scottish churchmen met at Westminster to formulate a new creed. Dominated as it was by Calvinists, the creed followed a certain theological trajectory. The result is, it became the classic exposition of Calvinist theology, and the standard formulation of Prebyterianism. It is certainly one of the major Christian creeds, although non-Calvinists of course may find ...

Discovering the God Who Is1 review
R. C. Sproul

Regal Books, 2008

Not Sproul's Best
Let me say that Sproul is one of my favorite authors. I was very excited about this book. I was a little disappointed. Maybe the fault was mine for not enjoying it as much as I anticipated. I usually expect his books to be full of his talent to convey deep theological concepts in a way that anyone can understand. This one was a bit basic on the concepts of who God is. I did learn a few ...

Christ in Christmas: A Family Advent Celebration2 reviews
James Dobson, Charles Swindoll, ...

NavPress Publishing Group, 1989

Using this for 15+ years
I bought this book when my oldest child was about 4 years old. I had seen children all around me concentrate on "gimmee" and wanted a different emphasis for my children. Advent begins the fourth Sunday before Christmas. This book can be used in 2 ways: Either light a candle and read only the 4 Sundays before Christmas and Christmas Eve, or light a candle and read each night. The first week ...

The Holiness of God59 reviews
Sproul, R. C.

Hovel Audio, 2006

This is flat out good stuff...
I told someone recently that I was reading The Holiness of God by Sproul and they looked at me like I was an alien. They responded with surprise that I had not read it and went on to rave about the book. Sometimes books get a bit too much pub and then don't live up to the hype; however, this book is not one of them. The Holiness of God is classic Sproul and it is a much needed message for the ...

Faith Alone: The Evangelical Doctrine of Justification28 reviews
R. C. Sproul

Baker Books, 1999

Catholics must read this to be able to answer it
RC is the man. He presents a fair and balanced account of the doctrine of justification for both Evangelicals and Catholics (although he has a few problems in his understanding of the Catholic doctrine of justification.) I am a Catholic faithful to the teachings of the Church and I reject the doctrine of sola fide. However, I learned a ton about what "faith alone" really means. RC is ...

Truths We Confess Vol 3: The State, The Family, The Church, and Last Things: A Layman's Guide to the ...2 reviews
R. C. Sproul

P & R Press, 2007

The Truth is Settled
What do you do with truth that was settled hundreds of years ago but modern-day churches feel they can improve upon the collective wisdom of the group known to history as the Westminster Divines. Noted author and teacher, Dr. R. C. Sproul has given us one of the best collections for our libraries and for teaching our children about the Bible and about historic faith. The Westminster COnfession ...

Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus: Experiencing the Peace and Promise of Christmas1 review
Nancy Guthrie

Crossway Books, 2008

Christmas Essays from Trusted Authors
Come Thou Long-Expected Jesus, is a collection of short essays on Christmas topics from writers that Nancy Guthrie respects--"essays that reflect a high view of Scripture; and that put the incarnation in the context of God's unfolding plan of redemption." Included are pieces from the sermons, essays or books of both historical and contemporary Christians. I've decided that listing the ...

Feed My Sheep: A Passionate Plea for Preaching1 review
R. Albert Mohler Jr., James Montgomery Boice, ...

Reformation Trust Publishing, 2008

Drink Deeply of this Scriptural Well
The Fact that this book is excellent should be no surprise, merely take a glance at the authors. This book will probably offend pastors who are in to the modern pop pyschology, but then they probably wouldn't be reading it anyway. Granted, that was probably unfair but... Naturally some chapters are better than others, here are a few: "The Lasting Effect of Experimental Preaching"--the essay on ...

Salvado de que?: Saved from What?6 reviews
R. C. Sproul

Editorial Portavoz, 2008

Saved From God's Wrath
Two Quotes from page forty-five: "However, when the scripture tells us that God saves us, that salvation is of the Lord, we tend to forget that salvation is from the Lord." "The last thing in the World the impenitent sinner ever wants to meet on the other side of the grave is God." The book is titled Saved From What. The What is God. One does not want to suffer under the wrath of ...
