Content, NOT conventions!
I purchased this book a few months ago as a textbook requirement for a graduate course I took. Little did I know that I would end up dog-earing practically every page! Regie's approach to teaching writing resounded with me on so many levels. As a kindergarten teacher coming off her first year in a classroom, I had felt a nagging dissatisfaction with our school's packaged writing "program", but ...

It is organized with an overview of the instructional sequence, then subsequent chapters are devoted to each step. Each chapter includes strategies and minilessons, often referencing the student work that is included in the second half of the book. The student work includes ...

Great book!
I am getting my Master of Arts in Teaching and this book was recommended by my professor. It is amazing for anyone either looking into teaching or someone that's already been a teacher for years. Routman is down to earth about her methods. She gives you the comfort that is often times needed as a teacher.

A MUST READ for emerging and veteran educators!
This is an absolute MUST for both emerging educators and for veteran teachers who are willing to keep up with the never-ending changes in education! Ms. Routman does not get bogged down with quoting today's "educational standards" in her book, because she does not write in order to please State Boards of Education (which I'm sure she accomplishes, anyway). This is the "inviting" thing about ...
