Useful and Inexpensive
There is not much that can be said of a work such as this other than if it is affordable and provides good usage. This book does both. The title describes the work completely. It is a collection of quotes. It is organized in order of the last name of the person to whom the quote is attributed. When all is said and done, that is not a very helpful scheme unless you already know the quote and ...

A MUST TITLE
There are plenty of books on the shelves regarding forgiveness, in recent years some books have been added that deal with personal, societal, and tribal reconciliation. But the authors go one huge step deeper...they deal with the issue of moral courage. They are blunt. They speak to the issue that the western church has failed in its concern about the sin-structures around the world and a ...

Good introductory anthology.
This is as good as you'll find for a brief one-volume, in-print collection of some major Browning poems. Browning, as Pound himself made clear, is the forerunner of "modernism," his poetry capable of outdoing Pound's in difficulty because of the labyrinthian syntax in pursuit of meanings which for their originator, at least, were clear. Even "Sordello," the ultimate poem about the ultimately ...

The key to a better tomorrow is not as complicated as one would think, but in fact, far simpler
The key to a better tomorrow is not as complicated as one would think, but in fact, far simpler. "Treading Lightly: The Joy of Conservation, Moderation, and Simple Living" is a call to solving the world's energy and environmental issues by simply living a simpler and more Earth-friendly life. Saying that standard of living doesn't have to fall, but much wiser decisions must be made, "Treading ...

A bit about the history of this book . . .
"Rats! They fought the dogs, and killed the cats, And bit the babies in the cradles, And ate the cheeses out of the vats, And licked the soup from the cook's own ladles, Split open the kegs of salted sprats, Made nests inside men's Sunday hats, And even spoiled the women's chats, By drowning their speaking With shrieking and squeaking In fifty different sharps and flats." Robert ...

A nice idea
This anthology is based on a nice idea. Instead of representing each of the Browning's separately it presents them together. Their life story and poetry are bound up with each other. And this volume shows to a degree their development together.

Cheap thrill!
Robert Browning is a treat, especially to read out loud. This book includes "My Last Duchess," of course, and some great poems like "The Bishop Ordering His Tomb" and "Fra Lippo Lippi." I like to think of Robert Browning as the first poet of the twentieth century since he really can't be put in a box with Tennyson or other popular poets of his own time. Also, he had a big influence on Ezra ...
The Works of Robert Browning (Wordsworth Poetry) (Wordsworth Poetry Library)
Robert Browning
Wordsworth Editions Ltd
, 1999
Robert Browning (1812-1889) represents the intellectual and argumentative strand in English poetry in contrast to the more ornate style of Spenser and Tennyson. His poetry demonstrates how a poet must be a sharp perceptive observer of the complexity of the human condition. Perhaps his most moving poetry was written to express his feelings for his wife, the poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning, in which he deals in a very 'modern' way with the ...

Mother's Love
As a child my mother read from this book to me and to my father. She need not have read much as she memorized many of the poems and can recite them now, though well past her 90th year. I have given this book to many of my friends and consider it a gift of love and inspiration.
The Major Works (Oxford World's Classics)

Robert Browning's poetic scope was broad, ranging from the beguiling magic of The Pied Piper of Hamelin to the epic book-length poem The Ring and the Book. This comprehensive selection includes over eighty of his shorter poems, amongst them his most famous and best-loved dramatic monologues, as well as the complete text of many of his longer poems. The Poetical Works of Robert Browning: Volume II: Strafford, Sordello (Oxford English Texts)
Robert Browning
Oxford University Press, USA
, 1984
Volume II contains Stafford, a play seldom reprinted, and Sordello, a poem commonly, but mistakenly, neglected as "unintelligible." The book looks at Browning's correspondence with Emily Hickey, the first editor of Strafford, and important copies of Sordello that help to shed light on Browning's attempts to revise the poem. Also included are such of the juvenilia that survive.

The poet of dramatic monologue
This is the opening of one of Browning's most well- known poems "Rabbi Ben Ezra" Grow old along with me! The best is yet to be, The last of life, for which the first was made: Our times are in His hand Who saith ' A whole I planned, Youth shows but half; trust God: see all, nor be afraid!' Browning is a poet of the inner life. His dramatic monologues are in the words of F.B. Pinion ...

Excellent overview of the history of the Greek language
As someone who has studied both Homeric and Modern Greek, I found this book about the evolution of Greek fascinating. There is also an interesting chapter about the dialects of Modern Greek. The book is written in an extremely readable style. I read through it in only a couple of days. There is a large bibliography at the back of the book and I intend to look up some of the references.

The unknown masterpeice of English literature
As an English major at the University of Pittsburgh, I was never exposed to this series of dramatic monologues. It's a pity, because when I finally stumbled across it, Browning went from being just another 19th-century poet to my favorite English language poet of them all, at one fell swoop. The Ring and the Book is based on a real-life murder trial in 17th century Rome. The story is told ...

Nicely done
As with other titles in this fine series, the poems are presented in roughly chronological order, and are interspersed with a running narrative of the poet's life. Vivid readings are delivered by actors and actresses. Browning is an excellent lyric poet (e.g. Meeting at Night/Parting at Daylight) but he was best known for his dramatic monologues. The recording emphasizes the monologues, which ...
