Is there anything good to say about this work?
The author describes this book as his first and it clearly shows throughout. Everyone has to start somewhere, so I can cut some slack for the lack of polish in the work. But not for the identified team of 'experts' who assisted him and who should hide their heads in shame as having let him down so badly. A book on any technical subject with as much breadth and depth as Oracle clearly needs to ...

Freeman the man!
I've been using Freeman's books for OCP upgrades in the past and they were good. This time he hasn't written an OCP book, I still got this one hoping to use it as a supplemental training material. Let's make it clear - it is not an OCP upgrade guide! It doesn't provide any practice questions and doesn't follow the test objectives closely enough. But as a new features overview this book is ...

Best book on market for RMAN and Backups
As a production DBA this is the best book so far since Velpuri wrote the original Oracle 8i backup and recovery book a decade ago. I like this a lot and together with the Oracle documentation, setting up and using RMAN is a snap compared to the pain it used to be to stumble with RMAN before. Throw away logical backups and hassle of SQL backups and use the power of RMAN. I was able to get cooking ...

Excellent technical detail
This is a great reference for Oracle replication and does an excellent job of explaining the issues, especially multimaster replication. I have Freemans's Oracle new features book also, and I enjoy the style and cadence of the writing style. The text is not preachy and shows with clear examples all of the ways to set up and use Oracle replication. I highly recommend this book, and the price is ...

Take an overview, that's the purpose
Yes, this book gives you only an overview over the 10g new features. But that's enough for me to download the free official and detailed guide on the argument of my interest from otn.oracle.com Good for a quick reference. Recommended.

I did not know I needed this book!
I got this book as a vendors prize at Oracleworld and I was suprized to learn that SSD is not just a flash in the pan. I do not recommend hardware, but I had great success with this approach. Since I did not pay for my copy I wanted to give back, so I highly recommend this one as a worthwhile read.

Found it to be quite informative
I am not sure why the other reviewers had problems with this book. I actually found it to be quite easy to read and understandble in its explanations of terminology. I work for a software company which sells a budgeting tool. Since realigning over to our public sector division, I decided to buy this book in order to hone my governmental accounting skills. My accounting degree certainly helped ...

All you need is there.
I've just passed the test. That was the only exam preparation book I used to get prepared. Yes, a few questions from the real test were not covered BUT this book has everything you need to PASS. Excellent tutorial!

Worth it's weight in Gold!
Backup and Recovery is one of the most critical tasks that a DBA has to perform. Sadly, it is also one of the most misunderstood. RMAN should be the tool of choice for backup and recovery for Oracle databases. There is so much that can be done with RMAN. What Robert and Matthew do is break it down piece by piece. There is a great intro and they build on that in subsequent chapters. If you want ...

Everything you need to know about 11g
This is a must have for anyone interested in upgrading an Oracle database to 11g. The author clearly explains new concepts in this release. What separates this book from others is the real life examples used to illustrate the value of the new features, not simply a definition of the syntax. I was especially interested in the Data Warehouse section. Highly reccommended!

Great book!
This is another one of Robert's (and others) great works! This book is written well, and is geared towards providing the DBA early in his/her career the information needed to master the Oracle database and take the next step to becoming a senior DBA, and then on to being an expert. Each section provides detail explanations on how each piece of the system works, why it's there, how to ...

A true MUST HAVE reference book
Like many Oracle DBAs, I have plenty of reference books that are useful. The problem I run into is that some tend to be quite large (i.e. 1000+ pages) and the information I need is contained in one paragragh from this book, one chapter from another and a schema diagram from yet another. I have long searched for one book to take with me to customer sites that contains examples of command usage, ...
