Justine, Philosophy in the Bedroom, and Other Writings43 reviews
Marquis De Sade

Grove Press, 1990

a wonderful one-handed book...
While it is interesting how the Marquis works in his philosophy (about 30 pages of orgy, around the same length of the most well-endowed man reading aloud from a political pamphlet one of them just happended to pick up on the way, followed about 30 more pages of orgy and so on), the desired effects are accomplished: the reader is left satisfied on the intellectual, philosophical, and yes, sexual ...

Marquis is a God
The god of Evil, the Marquis has stunning words that are absolutely beautiful, simultaneously the epitome of disgust. I worship his literary genius.

Anally Penetrating Virgins for Dummies!
This is the ultimate how-to guide. Instead of learning how to nail stupid boards together or talk like a foreign-man, this will teach you the delicious art of taking a young woman and filling her tight holes like they belonged to a thanksgiving turkey on thanksgiving. The 120 Days of Sodom and Other Writings72 reviews
Marquis De Sade

Grove Press, 1994

NOTHING HAS TOPPED IT YET
Although this is far from being the greatest book ever written it is still the most disgusting which after so many years (even WWII) is an amazing achievement in and of itself. The most amazing thing about this book is that you do not have to read it from cover to cover for it to stick with you for the rest of your life. Don't want to waste the money on such "trash"? Fine. Just track it down ...

The Complete Marquis de Sade, Vol. 12 reviews
Marquis de Sade

Holloway House, 2005

A disgrace to sin
This book is beyond boring...It's not even "reading while on the toilet" material. It's like a course you'd be forced to take as an elective in college. It reads like some student's half-hearted biography about no one in particular.

The Crimes of Love (Oxford World's Classics)3 reviews
Marquis de Sade

Oxford University Press, USA, 2008

Great with red wine
I really enjoyed this book. Generally, the stories are great. The first few tales are very, very good. Towards the end of the book, Sade loses steam, but that doesn't mean that the stories are any less imaginative. I guess I thought it was hard to follow up "Florville and Courval". I would definitely recommend reading the "essay on novels" thoroughly before reading the stories. Also, read the ...

Letters From Prison3 reviews
Marquis De Sade

Arcade Publishing, 1999

The real Marquis de Sade...
I have read many things about the Marquis de Sade and I've also read his erotic stories, but this book shows a whole different side of the man with the dark sense of humor and off-kilter philosophies. Letters from Prison is a memoir of sorts -- a series of letters, entries and overall views on his life and things in general. His letters to his wife are especially insightful. The reader gets to ...

Three by Marquis De Sade: Justine, The 120 Days of Sodom, Florville and Courval
Marquis De Sade

Wilder Publications, 2008

The Marquis de Sade was a French aristocrat, revolutionary, and writer of philosophy-laden, and often, violent pornography. He was a philosopher of extreme freedom, unrestrained by morality, religion or law, with the pursuit of personal pleasure being the highest principle. There is perhaps no more infamous figure in all of literature. Collected here in this omnibus edition are three of his most important works Justine, The 120 Days of Sodom, ...

Best of Sade2 reviews
Sade

Hal Leonard Corporation, 1994

Great!
I love this collection, although it would be nice if a few other favorites such as "Cherry Pie" were included. Some parts of the songs have been deleted in the sheetmusic, like the solo sax in "Jezebel" and the jazz jam in "Hang on to your love". But it can probably be improvised well, probably not to hard to pick up on it.

The 120 Days Of Sodom
Marquis de Sade

Solar Books, 2008

The 120 Days of Sodom is the most extreme book in the history of literature, an atrocity bible that permanently curses, scars and negates that history. The Marquis de Sade narrates the escalating sex-crimes of four libertines who barricade themselves in a remote castle with both male and female victims and accomplices for a precipitous orgy of sex and murder

Justine - The misogyny of M. de Sade
In 1801, Napoleon Bonaparte ordered the Marquis de Sade imprisoned without trial, in part for his publication of this slender volume of depraved brutality, "JUSTINE - The Misfortunes of Virtue." Sade was eventually banished from a standard prison to a virtual dungeon, after being accused of attempts to seduce young male prisoners. Legend has it that the warped Marquis, while isolated in the harsh ...

Incest (Hesperus Classics)5 reviews
Marquis de Sade

Hesperus Press, 2003

Please Disregard the Below, or, The Critique of the Critic
For artfulness alone, and pure freedom, or should I say boldness, of thought, the Marquis De Sade earns five stars for this work and everything else he's written (except of course "Oxtiern," which is, admittedly, dreadful). In this age of hum-drum prose, hacks, and politically-correct morons, Sade's works serve as much needed escapism. As for the below criticism, that Sade is overrated because he ...

Fascinating work by the Marquis, who wrote the first draft while whiling away his days in the Bastille. The Misfortunes of Virtue and Other Early Tales (Oxford World's Classics)8 reviews
Marquis de Sade

Oxford University Press, USA, 1999

What? No sex and torture?
This collection of short stories proves that the Marquis de Sade was a real writer, and a brilliant one. Some of these stories are excellent example of storytelling. They were written in his earlier days before he started writing the violent pornographic novels on which his reputation stands. In these stories, Sade shows great range--satire, low farce, sophisticated comedy, morality tale, mystery ...
