A great teacher wrote a great book!
One of the all time greats, so if you want refuge and "basic" items explained he is excellent. I recommend the following teachers besides Trungpa: Pema Chodron, Susuki Roshi, Chagdud Rinpoche; Katagiri Roshi, Reginald Ray . . . for starters!

A good place to start
This is a good little handbook about the Bodhisattva vow. Very clear and concise. Be forewarned that it is not an exhaustive or in-depth study of the vow, but it is great to give to loved ones who are curious about your spiritual path.

Removing the Clutter from your Mind
Sayong Mipham has produced an easy to digest book involving the basic principles of meditation. At the risk of being overly simplistic, "Turning the Mind into an Ally" involves removing the clutter that crowds the mind. To employ Mipham's own metaphor, our minds often run wild like a horse which needs to be corraled and trained. Even through simple techniques that only involve breathing, one ...

The Lineage of Shambhala From Father to Son
The son of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, Sakyong Mipham who is the lineage holder for the Shambhala world his father revealed, is able to freshly express this royal path. The "crazy wisdom" taste of Trungpa isn't here but is wonderfully matched by the gentle, loving and compassionate clarity of the Sakyong. This is a short book that is very easy to read and reflect upon. The chapters are short and ...

Absolutely Brilliant
Most of us wonder what it would be like to live in an enlightened society. Perhaps we even yearn for that. Jeremy Hayward has written a completely absorbing narrative of his encounter with a warrior-king and the creation of an enlightened society. Perhaps if one of Arthur's knights had written such a narrative it would read like this. Highly recommended for an authentic and heartfelt ...

Before working with a Spiritual Teacher
If you ever have any intention of formally working with a Spiritual Teacher, this is a must read! It shows that Enlightenment is a process, not a destination. It is a journey of accessing consciousness at deep levels. I have read hundreds of books on spirituality, and this one is authentic, in respect to what is required. Trungpa, clearly lays out the rewards and the ordeals of the spiritual ...
