Decent- Like Not Love
The book was a little dry, but in preparing me for my AP exam, I feel it did a decent job. My teacher substituted chapters from other books as well, so the information lacking from the earth and its people was compinsated. Although dry, the book opened my awareness to many components involved in world history. I liked the book, but didn't love it.

Complex ideas made simple
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R15XZM3GUKQY7N Just a quick committed endorsement of this book. Johnson is a master at making the complex plain and engaging. In this book as well as his seminal Emergence: The Connected Lives of Ants, Brains, Cities, and Software.

Good Stuff; I Just Wish There Was More Of It!
I picked this book up somewhat reluctantly - my budget for D&D books is pretty tight - but I'm glad I did. The title is misleading - it's an EVERYONE Guide to Eberron, and if you like the setting, this book is a definate must-buy. My only complaint is that it was too short. Because Wizards of the Coast limited the book to 160 pages [in line with other, similar releases], there just wasn't ...

Nice soft intro to concepts of self-organisation
For those with a technical interest in the matter, this is a nice soft intro to the topics with which concerned. It is written with a somewhat emotional style; probably not an ideal technical resource. For the readers not akin to the concepts at all, the book successfully conveys a nice (and vitally important) way of interpreting natural phenomena (that of self-organisation, collective ...

An amazing anthology
I bought this anthology for Ginn Hale's novella, Feral Machines-- and it was a great sci-fi read-- but it wasn't the only outstanding story. Erin MacKay's novella ,Crossing the Distance, was smart, and heart-wrenching in a very good way. She took the whole concept of Soul Mates and built an amazing world around it. Astrid Amara's two stories were both wonderful; Lord Ronan's Shoes had ...

Excellent, informative textbook
This textbook is a wonderful resource for anyone in a college level or AP world history class. Stemming from over 5000bce to 2000ce, this book covers most major historical events in stunning detail. The pictures and historical accounts are excellent parallels to the information contained in the text. I highly recommend this textbook, it is a must for anyone studying world history in detail!

"Everything Bad" is middling
Steven Johnson is a man with a mission. He begins his book with a quote from conservative columnist George Will, who complains that modern culture is abysmally stupid and is "infantilizing" our children. Johnson vigorously disagrees. His thesis is that computer games, TV, movies, and the internet are actually making us smarter. "Everything Bad is Good for You" is divided into two parts, the ...

Like fiction
Steven Johnson gets draw a clasical Snow's Story like a fiction but anchored to the reality throught tree "dramatic lines": 1. The comming of a epidemiology like a new science. 2. The borning of geographic inference. How we can infer what happen in the micro world trough the macro world. 3. A case of honestity betwen ancient believes performer and a science man. Well written, concise, valuable book
First, a disclaimer: I am a graduate student working within the research group of two of the authors (JDJ & SGJ). I used the first edition of this book (as did many other researchers) extensively when being first introduced to this field and have been able to compare it with this most recent edition given my familiarity with both editions. The 2nd edition is a significant improvement over the 1st ...

This text provides a truly global approach to the world history survey. Its fundamental theme, the interaction of human beings and the environment, serves as a point of comparison for different times, places, and societies. Special emphasis is given to technology and how technological development underlies all human activity. The Third Edition combines strong scholarship and pedagogy to uphold the book's reputation for rigor and accessibility. ...

Great book
This is best world history book I have ever seen. The writing is a bit higher level, but it contains many maps and wonderful images the authors had to borrow from museums around the world. The text starts from the earliest civilizations from around 5000 BCE until the present day. What separates this book from the other texts on world history is that this book does not focus on the white man. In ...

The Earth and Its Peoples was one of the first texts to present world history in a balanced, global framework, shifting the focus away from political centers of power. This truly global text for the world history survey course employs a fundamental theme, the interaction of human beings and the environment, to compare different times, places, and societies. Special emphasis is given to technology (in its broadest sense) and how technological ...

A Superb Synthesis
Although there are a lot of books out there about D-Day and the German Atlantic Wall defenses, Stephen J. Zaloga's D-Day Fortifications in Normandy is a welcome addition. As usual, Zaloga is able to synthesize a great deal of useful information about a well-known subject and still produce a book that has insightful and original material. Zaloga has mined the best available English, German and ...

Not worth the time reading
I was disappointed with this book. It would of been ok if it was just one person writing it. It seems that they kept telling the same things over and over. Everyone would of known this part of Chris Benoit's wrestling career if they watched his wrestling dvd Hard Knocks. As for the murder/suicide they basically just stated what was said on tv instead of doing any kind of investigating reporting. ...

Most Interesting US Imitation
This small work details the history fo the famous Grant/Lee tank that served as a stop-gap measure for the US armored force early in the war. The drawings are excellent and the descriptions are quite good. Most interesting of all is that the Americans built this based on the French B-1 tank, although the American version gave the 75-mm a slightly greater field of fire in a sponsoon mount ...
