A voice from the wilderness
Sue Monk Kidd's journey resonates for me as I have long struggled with the way we tend to ignore or excuse the masculine priority that surrounds women's lives. Ms. Monk explores and ennunciates the "stacked deck" of everything from language and religion to the ingrained assumptions of women's secondary status in the world. True the balance has shifted somewhat, but as long as there are places ...

"To hope is to risk frustration. So make up your mind in advance to risk frustration."
Thomas Merton's "New Seeds of Contemplation" is nothing short of life-changing: the complexity of his relationship with the interior life and titanic inward spirituality makes this the kind of book you will refer to for your entire life and may never understand it fully even then (I don't, and have read it twice now). For all that, you will still enjoy and admire the man. Just about ...

Great read that makes you think
This is a great book. 5 stars. It makes you look inside yourself and think about your life's goals, destiny, the destination where your life's flow is taking you, are you on a right track, are you in charge of your own life, what makes you happy and unhappy, mother-daughter relationship, etc. The ending is a positive one, it gives hope, but at the same time it's not a typical Hollywood-style ...

The Reader On the CD Version Does a Wonderful Job!!
This is such an interesting and fascinating book to listen to. I listened with baited breath. I just might want to read the book myself as well. Lily the main character is so lovable as are all the characters that are brought vividly to life. I so enjoyed the dialogue and the historical references from the 60's. I especially loved the implication of the Black Madonna. Lily's search for who ...

"Blessings he read and reread."
In a word, this book is inspirational. The tone is evident even in the book's packaging: its beach-sunrise jacket photo and its airy page design. If you need an emotional lift --- or know someone who does --- FIRSTLIGHT will provide it. Over her writing career of nearly 30 years, Sue Monk Kidd has endeared herself to two audiences. First, to readers of Guideposts magazine and devotionals, for ...

Insightful reading
Sue Monk Kidd's work continues to delight. Her short, honest, writings show her to be attentive to the moment as well as to the world around her. This book would be a start to a group discussion for people seeking to live mindful, but interactive, lives. She enjoys the spiritual life of monks without having taken their vows. Readers will gain much from this collection of essays and ...

My new favorite book
This book pulled my heart out from the first page. I loved it from beginning to end. The language and images are so fresh and real and beautiful that I was transported back to 1964, to the smells and sounds of the rural south. This is a must-read. My heartfelt thanks to Sue Monk Kidd for writing it.

THE POWER OF THE SISTERHOOD OF WOMEN...
This is the Spanish text edition of the New York Times best selling novel, "The Secret Life of Bees". It is a beautifully written, coming of age story, set in rural South Carolina in 1964 against the back drop of the civil rights movement. It is the touching story of a young white girl, fourteen year old Lily Owens, whose mother died in a tragic accident when Lily was about four. Lily lives with ...

THIS BOOK SPOKE TO ME...
This is the story of a woman's re-awakening of self. It is the story of forty-two year old Jessie Sullivan, a woman who has sublimated herself throughout her married life to her husband and her daughter. Now that her daughter is going away to college, empty nest syndrome looms on the horizon, along with a somewhat stagnant marriage. When she returns to her childhood home to attend to her aging ...
