Nightwatch: A Practical Guide to Viewing the Universe106 reviews
Terence Dickinson

Firefly Books, 1998

simply awesome
If you are a beginner star gazer like me and know nothing about stars and planetary location, this book will guide you to open up your eyes to the wonderful unknown world. It is detailed but will not overwhelm you with information like so many other books out there. I highly recommend to others.

Great gift for an astronomy buff
My dad is the hardest person to shop for - but he absolutely LOVED this gift. Looking at the stars is a hobby he enjoys. By using this calendar, he can get a heads up on interesting things he can see in the night sky. Perfect gift for the novice astronomer.

Nightwatch: An Equinox Guide to Viewing the Universe9 reviews
Terence Dickinson

DIANE Publishing Company, 1999

Dispense with technical mind boggling!
This is the first book I've read explaining the universe that keeps it simple enough for a beginner to understand. I checked the book out at the public library and can not wait to get my own copy and a highlighter. Fantastic!

Astronomy Magazine Calendar
This is a great calendar for Astronomy buffs. The pictures and images are great, accompanied by detailed explanations of what they depict. The calendar itself includes not just the expected references to various holidays, but also references to various astronomical and celestial events (meteor showers, etc.), both current and historical. Highly recommended!

Astronomy 2010 (Calendar)1 review

Firefly Books, 2009

Astronomy Calendar
I am very pleased, as always since 2002 when I started buying this calendar each year, and entertained with my Astronomy Calendar. The images are 'heavenly' and make great viewing. There's great information on each 'box' date on the Galaxy, present and past, and the space for each day is nice and large.

Terence Dickinson, Alan Dyer

Firefly Books, 2002

Best beginners astronomy book
This is a great book for those interested in visual astronomy with a telescope. Probably my favorite for beginners. Has excellent tips on what kind of scope to get and how to find objects to view. Very easy to read. A must read for anyone interested in a telescope or anyone who as recently obtained one.

Extraterrestrials: A Field Guide for Earthlings6 reviews
Terence Dickinson, Adolf Schaller

Camden House, 1994

Perfect for Students
This is the perfect book to use with middle school and high school students. I use this as a reference for cross-curricular projects with science fiction, science, language arts, and government. The background and general information is not too much for students to digest and the illustrations are fabulous. When required to come up with feasible life-forms for various planet types, the ...

The Universe and Beyond9 reviews
Terence Dickinson

Firefly Books, 2004

A good general text for the beginning astronomer
A friend and I are taking an intro to astonomy course and this is one of the recommended texts. I can certainly see why. It's a very clearly written work with a heavy emphasis on planetary and solar astronomy and a lucid discussion of stellar objects visible with personal telescopes, subjects that the noviate astronomer is most likely to find of interest. The author also dedicates two chapters ...

From the Big Bang to Planet X: The 50 Most-Asked Questions about the Universe ... And Their Answers2 reviews
Terence Dickinson

Camden House, 1993

Excellent!
I love astronomy, but most of the books I read about it are long and drawn-out, and too difficult and advanced for a high schooler to read. However, this book is easy enough for elementary schoolers to read. It's very informative, explained very well, and even has pretty pictures for those who are too lazy to read the whole book. :) I definitely recommend it!

Nightwatch: A Practical Guide to Viewing the Universe [NIGHTWATCH 4/E]1 review
Terence Dickinson

Firefly Books, 2007

Astro Telescopes And Photography
The author is great communicator with words and getting the information that I was seeking when I puchased this book was easier to digest. Great information on two issues that were my main focal points in purchasing "Nightwatch" 1.Telescopes. Just what to look for when purchasing, different types of telescopes, what is needed for certain types of observations,i.e.. deep space, sun, lunar, ...

Summer Stargazing: A Practical Guide for Recreational Astronomers6 reviews
Terence Dickinson

Firefly Books, 2005

Very helpful when you have a very dark, clear sky
Like many of you, I've long grown accustomed to diminished observing under a light polluted night sky. Sure, I can usually trace the major constellations and still find the best and brightest Messier objects. Yet, I hadn't realized my viewing deficiency until I had the benefit of an exceptionally dark night sky, far from city lights. There, I was lost, overwhelmed by a stellar grandeur that ...

Splendors of the Universe: A Practical Guide to Photographing the Night Sky9 reviews
Terence Dickinson, Jack Newton

Firefly Books, 1997

Typo
The book is great. Terry and Jack did a wonderful job. By the way I am on page 64 with the camera tracker. I noticed a typo on this web page under table of contents. You have Sides versus prints and should be SLIDES verses prints. Clear skies Gary Boyle Observer's Group Chairman Ottawa Centre, Royal Astronomical Society of Canada

The Edmund mag 6 star atlas2 reviews
Terence Dickinson

Edmund Scientific Co, 1982

Best atlas for serious beginner
This atlas was recommended to me by the folks at "Company 7", an excellent scope shop in Laurel, MD that services NASA. I got it with my Celestron 8 StarHopper 5 years ago and haven't come near to exhausting it. It is for somebody who is already familiar with finding constellations and planets, has looked through binoculars, and is now acquiring their first good telescope and wants to know what ...
