Big action and big fun!
Loved the characters and the plot was fun, exciting, engaging, compelling and suspenseful. This is a great thriller and it makes me want to read all Perry's stuff.

Couldn't Put it Down!
This is not your typical murder mystery. The heroine helps people enter their own version of "the witness protection" program. This book is one of the best of the series because it shows some vulnerability in Jane along with unexpected plot twists. And the action is non -stop. Loved it!

Protector of the Innocent
Jane Whitefield is a marvelous addition to the pantheon of females defending the good guys and defeating the bad guys. Her persona as a spiritual guide creates a twist that is novel and fascinating. Her super-hero powers are pretty good, too.

Weaves a plausible tale out of a seemingly implausible situation
I don't remember the old Jane Whitefield novels in perfect detail, but I recall enough to believe that this recent addition is as good as any of them. The potential plot holes are well-filled, which makes "Runner" refreshing among thrillers, a genre in which all too often I find myself wondering, "Wait a minute, why doesn't X just do Y?" That happened here too, inasmuch as the bad guys were ...

Thomas Perry is a great author!
I have read all of Thomas Perry's books. He is a great author! He manages to combine huge amounts of action and suspense with literate writing and well-developed, sensitive and interesting characters. "Dance for the Dead" is about Jane Whitfield, my favorite Thomas Perry character. Jane is a Seneca Indian who grew up near Niagara Falls, and the book is loaded with Indian history. Jane saves ...

Hide and Seek
A Jane Whitefield by Thomas Perry is always a delight. This time out even though she'd promised herself to remain at home, Jane has a teenager and a septuagenarian to help disappear. Fiction reading entails a suspension of belief, for this one the flaw is five mafia families using the same accountant. But it makes for fun when said accountant fakes his own death and takes off with the money. ...

Love at first fight
In the first few pages, Jane disables a very large bad guy in an elevator. He grabs her ankle as she exits (He's 'lying down.'). She says to him, "Think about it. Do you really want me alone with you in that elevator?" He lets go. I'm in love. Nobody outsmarts, outfights, or outlasts bad guys like Seneca adventurer Jane Whitefield. The first three books in Perry's wonderful series--Vanishing ...

Another excellent tale from Thomas Perry
I have never missed (or been disappointed by) a book by Thomas Perry. His characters are complete and real; when he writes about a location, you know he's spent time breathing the local air; he does not insult the reader with too much information, and every one of his books is very hard to put down once you get into it. This is no exception. He is one of my 4 favorite authors.

"Everything is plausible if you haven't got the answer."
I don't know how I missed knowing about Perry, since he's been cranking them out for a quarter-century, but somehow I did. I saw a recommendation for _Death Benefits,_ enjoyed that one, and went hunting for his earlier work. This is his first and it won an Edgar. The title character, never given a personal name, is a "specialist," a highly professional hit man, who began learning his trade in ...

incredibly funny
This is really first rate. A treasure. This should be part of our national heritage and made available to all Americans. Its Perry's masterpiece, but its genius--combining madcap absurdity with some deadly serious (and credible intelligence snafus)--goes far beyond mere comparisons to his other works. Its just "A masterpiece" pure and simple. Highly recommended.

Publisher! Reprint this book!
The best summer reading imaginable. Buy an old copy now and don't wait for the silly publishers to get off their butts and reissue it. This is classic Thomas Perry -- odd, violent characters that you come to care about, tight plotting touched with wit and irony that make it more believable not less, and scenes you'll remember. I have to say it; Thomas Perry has this trick about writing about ...

non-stop thrills!
"Sleeping Dogs" is the sequel to "The Butcher's Boy". The Butcher's Boy was raised by a butcher whose main income came from being a professional assassin. After being forced to kill a number of mob figures in "The Butcher's Boy" he fled to England and retired on his earnings. He found a girlfriend, a member of the English aristocracy named the Honorable Meg, and managed to lay low for ten ...

Shockingly good
I have been gobbling up Thomas Perry novels ever since discovering his Jane Whitfield series, so I only glanced at the cover when I picked this one up from the bin. I have to confess I was let down when I saw that it was about the insurance industry--what could be more boring? But "boring" is exactly the wrong word to use to describe this wonderfully exciting novel. I was hooked from the first ...

Endocrinology Consult for a good price
I bought this book for an Endocrinology rotation during my 2nd year in residency, including Consult Service and Outpatient Clinic. This book includes most of the basic knowledge that i needed to complete my service month, without leaving many topics that i needed uncovered. I found though, that it lacks some important topics, like uncontrolled DM due to medication or infection, Steroids tapering, ...
