My Big Animal Book (My Big Board Books)62 reviews
Roger Priddy

Priddy Bicknell, 2002

Big Book of Animals is a Simple Crowd Pleaser
This book continues to be one of my son's (3 years) favorites. It's nice big size and colorful simple pictures make this book one that he feels he can read himself. I often find him sitting on the couch reading it, making animal sounds and pointing at the pictures! I recommend it as a staple for your children's book shelf. The Happiest Baby on the Block: The New Way to Calm Crying and Help Your Newborn Baby Sleep Longer708 reviews
Harvey Karp

Bantam, 2003

Not rocket science but it works!
Although the tecniques in this book are not some hidden mystery, the ideas work and they are good tools to have when baby is fussy. I can pretty much always quiet my baby by holding him in the crook of my arm, on his side, with a pacifier and shaking my elbow to give him what my husband and I have termed "the bobble head". The author is a little full of himself, but it is worth the read if only ...

Great bed time book

Llama Llama Red Pajama167 reviews
Anna Dewdney

Viking Juvenile, 2005

I llove this llittle llama...
From the moment my 8 year old heard this book (at age 4 or so) he was hooked. When Mama LLama is busy downstairs Baby Llama gets increasingly louder and more obnoxious with every page. We laughed as my son recognized his own behavior in baby llama. I still use the catch phrase "llama drama" to signify that his behavior is on par with the "weeping and wailing" Baby Llama does. I disagree with ...

One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish (I Can Read It All by Myself)146 reviews
Dr. Seuss, Theodor Seuss Geisel

Random House Books for Young Readers, 1960

A Bedtime Favorite
This book (like many Dr Seuss Books) is a favorite bedtime read and it is one that seems to have been memorized quickly and one that started my child reading. The other books also helped, but One Fish Two Fish was one of the first where following along, and counting, started to show. Of course it is a great book in its own right and will bring back many memories to so many parents.

Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!215 reviews
Mo Willems

Hyperion Press, 2003

Belly laughs from my kindergarten girl - over and over again
This was my daughter's favorite book in when she was in kindergarten. Yes, it's silly. And don't look for any abiding deep lessons. What you will find is both subtle and not-so-subtle humor. It can be read deadpan until the point in the book when......HE JUST GOES CRAZY! Also, if you've ever lived in NYC, you'll have more of an appreciation for the humor in this book, I think.

We call this the "Bible" at our house

God Gave Us Christmas (God Gave Us...)79 reviews
Lisa T. Bergren

WaterBrook Press, 2006

Great childrens book
I just love this series of books. They are written with easy to understand concepts that will open up great conversations between parents and their children. As a Christian parent I think this book could be useful in helping to explain how God is the reason for Christmas. The illustrations are vivid and appeal even to my 9 month old. I can not wait to read this to him for years to come.

Top 100 Baby Purees: 100 Quick and Easy Meals for a Healthy and Happy Baby121 reviews
Annabel Karmel

Atria, 2006

Even my 8 year old likes "baby purees"
I love this cookbook. With my third and last baby, I wanted to make my own baby food. I didn't have any idea where to begin, so I purchased this book. The recipes are delicious. My 8 year old asks to try all of the purees now....they're that good. The recipes are suprisingly flavorful. My husband and I ate about half of the beef stew before I pureed it, and I'm a salt fiend. I purchase this book ...

Moo Baa La La La168 reviews
Sandra Boynton

Little Simon, 1982

Still a family favorite (the baby is now 23!)
We bought this and other Boynton books (Blue Hat, Green Hat; Doggies; But Not the Hippopotamus when our daughter was a baby (our son was 4) and to this day, these remain family favorites! When all of the other board books have been given away, Boynton has a treasured place on our shelves. The whimsy, silliness, and sensitivity of the books are a delight to child and adult alike. You'll ...

Rufus Butler Seder

Another great scanimation book
Waddle is sure to delight not only the 4 to 8 year olds, but also the toddler who likes color and animation. The pictures are cute, the Scanimation delightful. The Monster at the End of This Book (Big Bird's Favorites Board Books)192 reviews
Jon Stone

Random House Books for Young Readers, 2000

Absolutely Cute & Adorable -- And A Hoot Besides!!! :)
Too bad Amazon's product description violates Amazon's own guidelines by providing a full-on spoiler! But fortunately -- hey -- how many toddlers read Amazon product descriptions?!? :) Actually, it doesn't take very much guesswork for an adult (or a smart kid) to figure out the ending; just look at the front cover, then read the title! (Heck, what ELSE would a "monster" look like, if not Blue ...
