The Happiest Baby on the Block: The New Way to Calm Crying and Help Your Newborn Baby Sleep Longer627 reviews
Harvey Karp

Bantam, 2003

Fantastic Book till 3 months
We loved this book! and DVD. Only problem is we didn't realizes you must teach your baby to go to sleep on her/his own (you find that out only at the very very end of the book when it's a bit too late) Once your baby turns 3 months she/he should be sleeping on their own 2-3 naps a day and through the night. I highly recommend parents get this book but also get the book the "baby whisperer ...

First Time Mom - helped me feel like "I can do this"
I loved this book! I read it before my son was born (first and only child). I was very scared about becoming a mom because of all the horror stories I heard. This book really helped me to feel like hard times were completely normal and to be expected but that I could handle them without being a failure. One of the most important things to know before reading ANY parenting book is that every ...

The Baby Book: Everything You Need to Know About Your Baby from Birth to Age Two (Revised and Updated Edition)822 reviews
William Sears, Martha Sears, ...

Little, Brown and Company, 2003

Very informative!
I got this book for a baby shower gift. At first I was over-whelmed by it because there is so much info. Then I started using it as a resource after the baby was born. Now I feel like I use it all the time, instead of constantly calling the doctor about little things. I am now buying it for a friend who just had a baby.

Baby Bargains, 7th Edition: Secrets to Saving 20% to 50% on baby furniture, gear, clothes, toys, maternity ...688 reviews
Denise Fields

Windsor Peak Press, 2007

Great for first time parents
A friend of mine had recommended this book to me when I first became pregnant. Initially I was a little skeptical because my husband and I already have a subscription to Consumer Reports and read on-line product reviews prior to making most purchases. However, this book is fantastic. Doing research of all the items you'll need for your baby can be quite overwhelming. We are first time parents ...

Super Baby Food636 reviews
Ruth Yaron

F. J. Roberts Publishing Company, 1998

It is a great book but a lot of information
I really like this book. She breaks down month by month what is safe to feed your baby and why. She gives great hints as to how to store and make baby food and what brands to buy if you can't make it. Sometimes the information is a bit overwhelming but if you take it one chapter at a time and pick and choose what you need, it is a great resource.

Excellent Recipes - My Son Loves It All
My sisters each have 2 children and none of them LIKE to eat healthy food. I have witnessed more meal time battles than I ever cared to. So when my husband and I had our first child this year, I was determined that we'd do whatever we could to avoid raising a picky eater. My son is almost six months old (doctor said it was okay to start him on solid food at 4 1/2 months). He has tried ...

A lifesaver!
The principles in this book work! It has been a lifesaver for us! Our son slept for 6 hours straight at 9 weeks old! For a mom returning to work after maternity leave, this is better than gold! I love how people also comment on my happy confident son that always seems to be in a great mood. They call him Smiley. It's wonderful!

Denise Fields, Ari Brown

Windsor Peak Press, 2007

Fantastic, down-to-earth resource
By far, my favorite pre-firstborn book, and I have read a lot of them! I would recommend this to anyone who would like solid, medical advice, in plain language, without feeling like they are being preached at. The author is obviously passionate about several subjects-- I would expect no less from any pediatrician-- but I do appreciate that "Dr. B's Opinions" are clearly called out as such. ...

Sign2Me / Northlight Communications, Inc., 2004

Don't wait to communicate!
What an amazing product!! For parents who are new to signing with your baby, the video is excellent in that it gives you the opportunity to see little ones signing. I often feel that 'seeing is believing', so it's very motivational to watch other babies signing. Several educators in the video also give their support and validate the research behind Signing with your Baby (R). It's also a ...

The Baby Name Wizard: A Magical Method for Finding the Perfect Name for Your Baby96 reviews
Laura Wattenberg

Broadway, 2005

Best Baby Name Book!
My sister recommended this book and I love it. It is not like every other book and baby name website. If you are looking for a name dictionary with origin and meaning of every name, buy one of the other thousand baby name books out there. If you are looking for something different that groups names by category, helps to identify what people think of when they hear the name, and shows popularity ...

The No-Cry Sleep Solution: Gentle Ways to Help Your Baby Sleep Through the Night685 reviews
Elizabeth Pantley, William Sears

McGraw-Hill, 2002

A Working Mom's helper
As a working Mom of two this book was a great help to me! My first child was not always the best sleeper and after a year of going to work surviving with my IV of coffee in the morning, my sister gave me this book. Before getting this book, we did try to let my daughter "cry it out", only to watch her throw up in her crib from being so upset- I knew that wasn't an option ever again!! This ...

The Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problems: Sleeping, Feeding, and Behavior--Beyond the Basics from Infancy ...94 reviews
Tracy Hogg, Melinda Blau

Atria, 2006

Easily the most helpful book I have found yet
As a first time mom to a nearly three week old baby, who really is a no-fuss angelic girl I found I had little questions here and there which seemed an enigma to me but were clearly outlined in this book. The author outlined for me in her trouble-shooting more answers in a period of an hour of reading than the last three weeks of "getting-to-know-my-baby-time." The way she references other ...

Baby Proof254 reviews
Emily Giffin

St. Martin's Griffin, 2007

my favorite so far
i thought this was emily giffin's "smartest" book yet. while i really liked something borrowed and something blue, the characters felt a little too conventional at times (rachel the "good girl" and darcy the "selfish girl"). i thought claudia was a more real, human character, a smart and thoughtful woman with her own set of issues and flaws. i found her sense of betrayal at ben to be authentic ...

The Petit Appetit Cookbook: Easy, Organic Recipes to Nurture Your Baby and Toddler62 reviews
Lisa Barnes

HP Trade, 2005

Delicious and easy recipes
I have a bunch of recipe books for baby/toddler food, but this one is my favorite. I've made about 10 recipes from the book and each one is easy to make, healthy and delicious. Most of the recipes are great for the whole family - not just toddlers, and I love that she emphasizes the value of organic food. I'm ordering another copy now to give as a gift.

Baby Signs
My son and his wife have included me in the adventure of their first baby by telling me about this great idea/book. This book gives clear instructions and pictures so we can all be on the same page, pun intended, to help their son learn how to communicate with us before he has language. What a super idea!!!!

If you have a baby AND are expecting a baby-- this is the book for you!
Our little boy is 9 months old-- and in just 4 more months, he'll be a big brother! We've been looking around to find a book that we could share with him that might make the transition a little easier-- and we found it, totally, in this book. We have several other books that are just a little too old for our baby-- they'll show the big brother changing diapers or things like that. This big ...

Owl Babies56 reviews

A Teacher's Perspective
This piece of Modern Fantasy features a small owl family. The mother owl leaves and the three owl babies are left to worry and wonder where she's gone and when she'll return. In the end, the owl mother returns to her three concerned children and reassures them. The first time I heard this story was at Texas Tech University in my Children's Lit course. Dr. Button was a skilled reader and acted ...
