Have discovered many ALDINGER family immigrants.
I greatly appreciate this book by Clifford Smith as I have found, discovered, and verified many, many of my ALDINGER family ancestors who immigrated from Fellbach, Germany. Since receiving this book in 1995, I have lived in Fellbach for five months and have personally met many ALDINERS in Fellbach. Thanks again!!

Help Yourself with 101 plus one poems from the white man?
I loved this book.. and the CD is really haunting too. Anthony Baden's got a very sexy voice and powerful delivery! I've studied English Literature at University and Baden's writing reminds me of Shakespeare's Hamlet Soliloquy. In his prose, Baden is able to pinpoint emotions and situations with a Shakespearean talent, that rare clarity of expression mixed with grace and brevity. No ...

It's about life, it's about testimony, it's about freedom...
I have read other books on listening and they are so systematic. Full of check lists of what to do and what not to do. Baden's book is about life, it's about testimony, it's about freedom, and it has changed my view of what listening to God is all about. Thanks Baden for being obedient to your calling.

Excellent if you skip the intro
This original text of BP's "Scouting for Boys" is an excellent read. You can skip the introduction, however. The intro is a steaming pile of horse excrement written by someone seething with contempt for BP and the Boy Scout movement. Why it was included with the book is beyond me unless it's to provide bum fodder whilst camping. Remember, a scout is thrifty!

Dated at first glance, but still very relevant.
Rovering To Success on first glance appears to be an outmoded, elderly text that invites ridicule and giggling at the language used, but if the reader can look past the idioms of the period it was written, and see the fundamental concepts behind what Baden-Powell is saying, then it quickly becomes an excellent guide for young people who want to live a fulfilling and adventurous lifestyle. It ...

An inspring read for Scouters and non-Scouters alike
Who would have thought that a general, who in his time achieved the same stature that Eisenhower did after World War II, would turn his attention when he was in his 50s to a completely new journey - and create a system to engage boys in purposeful fun at a time when so many were being offered only the mean streets of turn-of-the-century industrial England! Having recently returned from a trip ...

One Scouter's review of an honest biography of the founder.
Jeal has written an authoritative and well researched biography of the Chief Scout of the World. His style is extremely readable and he seeks to avoid conclusions. He treats the rumors of BP being a homosexual openly (the rumors, not BP). His biography is overall very positive but not fawning. I highly recommend it to any Scout leader.

I suppose I should say, just in case anyone has wandered here looking for a book of camp-fire songs, that the Baden Powell here is not the founder of the Boy Scouts (although named after him): he is Roberto Baden Powell de Aquino (1937-2000), the prolific and virtuosic Brazilian guitarist. In fact, this is not properly a songbook at all, since it comprises only instrumentals. It is one of ...

It's not human to be altruistic
This collection of essays explores how individuals view commonly-owned resources. The clear conclusion is that people are biologically selfish: each person sees his/her own interests as more important than the group's interests. Altruism doesn't work as a policy. This flies in the face of common wisdom. I wish this book could be made standard reading for all high-school students. It explains ...

Aids to Scouting for N-COs & Men
This is the book that started the worldwide Boy Scout movement. By Robert S. S. Baden-Powell, it was published by Gale and Polden near the end of the Boer War in which Baden-Powen proved himself a popular hero by tying up large Boer forces at the rail head of Mafeking. As his name became more prominent in popular British press, demands for anything he had written grew. By the end of the war and ...

Great Insider Perspective
I got this book when my lease was ending because I wanted to own a car going into the bad economy. I tried the techniques Baden recommends in the book and there was a lot of accuracy to this information. It may not work so well with high demand models, but overall it was a real help. Definitely worth it.

The Readable Biography of Baden-Powell
Having read several biographies recently of Baden-Powell the founder of the World Scouting Movement. I must admit I prefer Freedman's little book to the larger and more authoritative works. Freedman writes with an easy style that makes reading a pleasure. The illustrations are original photos or B-P's own drawings, and add flavor to the text without being distracting. This is not a critical nor a ...

A must read about early modern European history
In this book, Sheilagh Ogilvie combines painstaking empirical research about a small region in Germany, with a lucid application of economic theory, to a field of social history that hasn't seen much progress since the early 1980's. This book is a model of clarity, and of interest not only to students of early modern Europe, but to anyone interested in how institutions constrain human ...
