Waiting for Your Cat to Bark?: Persuading Customers When They Ignore Marketing52 reviews
Bryan Eisenberg, Jeffrey Eisenberg, ...

Thomas Nelson, 2006

Figure out how to persuade your web visitors to become buyers.
Dogs are easily motivated to respond to stimuli. Cats aren't so cooperative. Potential buyers used to behave pretty much like dogs--responding to advertising by running out to buy a product. Even in the B2B world, a sales rep or an ad campaign could move prospects easily toward a purchase. Today, buyers prefer to make their own informed brand choices. They are as difficult to herd as, well, cats. ...

Rex Barks: Diagramming Sentences Made Easy5 reviews
Phyllis Davenport, Lisa VanDamme

Paper Tiger (NJ), 2004

27 years of efficacy
Mrs. Davenport was my tenth-grade English teacher and we were the first class to use this book in class. She was great and the experience helped me learn writing and editing skills that I am using today as a professional writer. I always assumed that everyone got the same kind of education, but I see evidence to the contrary on a regular basis. Also, I can still recite Hamlet's soliliquy and the ...

The Survival of the Bark Canoe10 reviews
John McPhee

Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1982

Thoreau and Beyond
I read this book years ago and have even given a couple of copies away to friends! So I highly recommend this book and many of McPhee's other works. As to Henri Vaillincourt, the hero of the book; he would say don't believe everything you read in the book... He builds canoes still today, and very nice one at that. He even has a website that I will not list here. The true beauty of the book is ...

Disney Presents Carl Barks' Greatest Ducktales Stories Volume 14 reviews
Carl Barks

Gemstone Publishing, 2006

Among the best of Disney's presentations
I first read these stories as a child when they came out in Disney comic books and I've never forgotten them. My friends and I would check out the latest Disney comics to see if the Donald and Scrooge stories were drawn by the "good duck artist" and only buy the comic books if they were. Of course Carl Barks was uncredited, so we never knew the "good duck artist's" name, but his drawings and his ...

Rumi: Bridge to the Soul: Journeys into the Music and Silence of the Heart2 reviews
Coleman Barks

HarperOne, 2007

a great personal reflection on rumi
a great book for what is was meant to be...a poignant reflection on rumi by two of the great post-modern "rumi-ists" ! if you want pure rumi, then go for one of the pure collections. our other reviewer must have thought this was something else. obviously.

Jingle Bell Bark: A Melanie Travis Mystery5 reviews
Laurien Berenson

Kensington, 2005

Strong writing, great character
Melanie Travis has enough to do over the holiday season without worrying about murder. She has a son to shop for, an expecting sister-in-law, a poodle to prepare for all-important showings, a girlfriend to straighten out on buying a respectable dog, and a relationship to get right. When the favorite schoolbus driver is found dead, all Melanie intends to do is make sure his dogs get a proper home. ...

Bark, George58 reviews

Laura Geringer, 1999

this book outshined the toys on christmas morning
This book was loved by my three nephews (one is 4 and the twins are 2). I was already their favourite aunt but I think I actually moved up a few notches on the scale with this one. On my one week stay with my sister, I read this book to my nephews at least once per day. The four year-old liked it so much that we performed a show with puppets for the whole family based on this book.

Disney Presents Carl Barks' Greatest DuckTales Stories Volume 24 reviews
Carl Barks

Gemstone Publishing, 2006

As good as Volume 1
See my review for the first volume -- a wonderful collection by a great graphic storyteller. I hope more of Carl Barks' duck tales will be published in this series.

I'd Bark But You Never Listen: An Illustrated Guide to the Jewish Dog
Harold Kimmel

Red Rock Press, 2008

From a top Hollywood humor writer comes this edgy collection of illustrated jokes revealing the innermost thoughts of independent-minded dogs. What marks the breed is a quirky mindset--given both to philosophical debate and picky pragmatism, not to mention personal pride: I'd fetch but it's embarrassing. The Jewish greyhound, foxhound or chosen mutt always has an excellent and very funny reason for leading his or her distinguished version of a ...

The Bark of the Dogwood: A Tour of Southern Homes and Gardens57 reviews
Jackson Tippett McCrae

Enolam Group Inc, 2005

Hard to tell you just how great this is
I'll admit, I'm a little frustrated with this book. I keep touting it to EVERYONE I know, telling them it's a must read, and they keep asking me "why?" The problem is this: You can't really go into WHY this book is so great without giving away the secrets, anagrams, connections, etc. It's like asking someone about "Da Vinci Code" (whether you like it or not)--you simply can't tell everything ...

Bark If You Love Me (Harvest Book)32 reviews
Louise Bernikow

Harvest Books, 2001

Outstanding read!
How much did I love this book!! Louise Bernikow not only captured the unique character consistently found in Boxers, but she kept the year-long story lighthearted and funny. This is a beautifully documented love story between woman and dog and how, in the helping of one, the other was healed. I looked forward every day to my lunchbreak where I would do more reading than eating. I've since ...

Rumi: The Book of Love: Poems of Ecstasy and Longing6 reviews
Coleman Barks

HarperOne, 2005

There Is Some Kiss We Want
Coleman Barks once again translates the words of Rumi with respect, good nature, a bit of humor, and a deep understanding of this 13th century mystic and poet. A renowned poet and something of a mystic himself, Coleman Barks leads us through his book as a constant and caring companion. He begins each chapter with his own touching stories, guidance, and expert explanations for the material he ...

Walt Disney Treasures - Uncle Scrooge: A Little Something Special (Walt Disney Treasures)5 reviews
Don Rosa, Carl Barks, ...

Gemstone Publishing, 2008

Everyman's Rich Man
If Mickey Mouse embodies the Horatio Alger myth in animated cartoons, then Uncle Scrooge McDuck fulfills something of the same role in comic books, with a slight twist: McDuck is what becomes of the Alger character when he makes his fortune. While Mickey became the trademark, and some would say the "lure," of the Disney empire, Uncle Scrooge became the delight of Disney comic book readers, his ...

Trees, Leaves & Bark (Take-Along Guide)1 review
Diane Burns

NorthWord Books for Young Readers, 1997

Trees, leaves, and bark are cool.
This book is so interesting. There is so much information inside this little book it is just great. Easily readable for kids and tells them everything they could want to know about trees, from the very top, to the very bottom. Makes a walk through the woods so much fun, being able to point out all the different trees and seeds you now know from reading this book. We love it!

Illustrated Guide to Carving Tree Bark: Releasing Woodspirits and Whimsical Dwellings in Found Wood2 reviews
Rick Jensen, Jack A. Williams

Fox Chapel Publishing, 2004

A top notch carving book
This is one of the best "how to" carving books I've come across in quite a long time. The projects are wonderful ( those cute, crooked little houses in cottonwood bark) and the authors have gone out of their way to make the directions clear and the photographs fit the explanations--or vice versa. There are even instructions for repairing blow outs, a not uncommon problem with bark carving cross ...

The Soul of Rumi: A New Collection of Ecstatic Poems15 reviews
Coleman Barks

HarperOne, 2002

Amazing!
I find it absolutely amazing that those who claim to be admirers of Rumi, online reviewers and editorial reviewers, do NOT even know where he was born! Persia, not Afghanistan, was his birthplace. Afghanistan did not even exist until the 19th century, thanks to the British. The land that is now called Afghanistan was part of the Persian Empire and remained so for centuries AFTER Rumi's death (500 ...

Willow Bark & Rosehips: An Introduction to Common Edible and Useful Wild Plants of North America1 review
Fritz Springmeyer, Michele Montez

Falcon Press Publishing, 1996

Great reference guide.
A practical use reference book filled with vivid illustrations and informative text. For those who would like to learn more about the wide variety of edible plants that grow in North America. Perfect size too, not too big and yet big enough where text and illustrations are clear and easy to read. Surprisingly, it is one of the few books on the subject published in the last 25 years. Now out of ...

Bark M For Murder8 reviews
J. A. Jance, Virginia Lanier, ...

Avon, 2006

Yip, yip - woof, woof!
Anthologies are always a mixed bag. Which is probably why they're so appealing. They're great for when you're not up to concentrating on a full-length story, or only have little bits of reading time available, for whatever reason. Generally speaking, they almost always introduce you to a new author or two. It's hardly surprising then, that they get such mixed reviews. Hardly anyone ever likes ...
