Theoretical Basis for Nursing, 2nd Edition10 reviews
Melanie McEwen, Evelyn Wills

Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2006

Best Review outside of Kaplan
If you are not into the Kaplan format or don't have time this is the book for you. The chapter are short and to the point. You can maximize your Board score by looking at the chapters in Biostats (guaranteed to ghave at least 2 questions per block on this subject). Look into it and if you need a bit more details I suggest either the Goljan High Yield Notes or Kaplan Behavioral Sciences.

Synopsis of the Four Gospels: Completely Revised on the Basis of the Greek Text of the Nestle-Aland, 26th ...19 reviews

United Bible Societies, 1982

Used Amazon to replace damaged textbook
I had received a damaged copy (creases throughout the book) of this text, required for an online course I am in, from the University of Dallas. I donated the slightly damaged, but usable, text and ordered a replacement through Amazon rather than try to return it. This book is a must in serious biblical study and is very easy to use. If you need to find out if a Gospel event is recorded in ...

Pathophysiology: The Biologic Basis for Disease in Adults And Children Fifth Edition36 reviews
Kathryn L. McCance, Sue E. Huether

Mosby, 2005

Good Value
It happens to be the recommended text for one of my courses at school, and even though the campus bookstore had it in stock, it was beyond my budget. I got it from amazon.com for about half of what I would have spent if I'd purchased same from the bookstore. Thanks amazon.com!

An excellent compendium for physiology lectrues
This new edition of the classical text book Goodman and Gilmans is further improved. DeGowin's Diagnostic Examination, Ninth Edition16 reviews
Richard LeBlond, Donald Brown

McGraw-Hill Professional, 2008

"Navicular vs. scaphoid" bone
I wanted to comment on the book in general (excellent!) and a question about the use of "scaphoid" versus "navicular" for the carpal bone. I also wondered why both terms were used. "Scaphoid" comes from the Greek word for boat or skiff, "skaphe". "Navicular comes from the Latin word for boat, "navicula." I suggest that students use a good medical dictionary to look up confusing words. ...

Stephen M. Stahl

Cambridge University Press, 2008

Lucid and readable with very helpful color diagrams
I am a Masters Degree student in counseling and was introduced to Stahl's writings in a Counseling and Physiology course taught by an M.D. This book provides color diagrams with very lucid descriptions and explanations of how various chemical substances impact brain functioning. I bought the second edition because of the price difference but for my application this edition is more than ...

Leisure: The Basis of Culture13 reviews
Josef Pieper, James Schall S.J. (Foreword)

Ignatius Press, 2009

Killing the false Idol "Work" (Dru translation)
Pieper makes the argument that freedom and philosophy are closely related; bad philosophy can lead to enslavement of oneself or of societies as a whole. The Greeks (whom we take most of our higher level concepts from and who had perfected the ideals of freedom to their greatest level) viewed philosophy as closely linked to wonder, hope, and the marvelous; an open system that never doubted the ...

The Vision of the Anointed: Self-Congratulation as a Basis for Social Policy114 reviews
Thomas Sowell

Basic Books, 1996

Thomas Sowell, the psychologist!
For those who have enjoyed Thomas Sowell's history books, this book reveals him as an astute psychologist too. Piggybacking off of Paul Johnson's thesis in "Intellectuals," the book delves into the psychology of being a liberal... of having a lofty, "anointed vision" of what humanity could be like but a condescending (and often inaccurate) view of people, individuals. He contrasts intellectual ...

The Art Of Dramatic Writing: Its Basis in the Creative Interpretation of Human Motives46 reviews
Lajos Egri

Touchstone, 1972

The Best Writing Book I've Read
It's all been said in the other reviews so I'll keep it short. If you want to learn about how stories are built and what makes them work; what makes characters believable and how to keep readers interested, this book is probably the best one out there (along with the Robert Mckee's Story, Hero with a Thousand Faces, and The Writer's Journey)

The Ultimate Airbrush Handbook (Crafts Highlights)11 reviews
Pamela Shanteau

Watson-Guptill, 2002

5 stars as an introductory book
This book starts out as many arts & crafts instruction books do - with pictures and descriptions of tools and supplies, followed by basic airbrush operation and maintenance. This occupies the first 60 pages and is well done, though the author goes a little overboard in describing requirements for production studios and large shops. I doubt that anyone interested in building out such a facility ...

Robbins and Cotran Pathologic Basis of Disease, Professional Edition: Expert Consult - Online and Print ...2 reviews
Vinay Kumar, Abul K. Abbas, ...

Saunders, 2009

Excellent text and illustrations
I bought this book to update my knowledge of basic sciences while studying for clinical cases. I do have extra time now and I am glad I purchased a book that makes the updating a lighter experience through good layout and objective text. The pictures are in very good print quality and diagrams are didactic. Although I did not use the online access yet, registration was easy.
