Can't wait to read it over again
Classic fairytale for adventurous boys, but my little princess adores it. She likes the big, tall, strong wife of the ogre best but all characters are charismatic. I absolutely love the illustrations. I bought all of Kellogg's books because I was so happy about this one, but, besides the illustrations, they let me down. On the contrary, the story is very well told here too, with nicely ...

Fee, Fi, Fo Fum'un, I Smell the blood of an Englishwoman
Here's a new twist on the famous Jack and the Beanstalk story. Remember lazy Jack, that boy who always looked for the easy way out. Well in this story our hero is a heroine and she is anything by lazy. She is brave, courageous and bold. She is smart, witty and resourceful and willing to lend a helping hand to an old woman in trouble. And that's what she finds when she gets to the top of the ...

Wish I had thought of it!
A really great idea in children's books! The adult reads the paragraphs on the left side of the book. The parent's sides are full of descriptive words that add to the story. The child reads the right side of the book. The words continue to tell the story, but in more simple words. My son (age five) loves to read these books. The when I read my section, it gives him a much needed break, and he ...

Jim Teaches Morals!
As a first grade teacher, I have used this book for many years when faced with the task of teaching my students about respect, honesty, and good-samaritanism! I have yet to meet a 6 year old who's not heard of Jack and the Beanstalk. But, what happened to the giant after Jack took his gold and his beloved hen (goose)? Jack was a thief, but Jim is a delightful young man who wants nothing ...

Great idea, terrific book
What a great idea. Dr. Granowsky has done a lot toward teaching kids about empathy withthis lovely little book. First you can read the traditional story of Jack and the giant, then flip the book and read something completely different (even the illustrators differ)! Here is how the new telling begins: "I am sure that the rest of you people down below are very nice. But that boy, Jack, is ...

Cow for beans
This is another book, parents should get for their children's bookshelves. A classic tale about a lazy boy named Jack, who trade a cow for magic beans instead of money. The magic beans grew into a very high beanstalk that reaches the clouds. Curious Jack climbed up the stalk where he met a fairy telling him how the orge was the one who killed his father and took all of their fortune. Jack went to ...

A Classic Tale Modernized
Newsweek recently did an article on top picks of children's book. This one was one of them. We purchased it and I concur. My just turned 4 year old daugther loves the tale and sits close waiting for me to turn the page. The illustrations our lively and fun and keep the kids interested. This is a must for your child's book collection.

Supergardeners Pablo, Uniqua, and Tyrone are so good at gardening that they grow a giant beanstalk. When they climb up the beanstalk, guess what they find? A giant named Tasha. Tasha is a grumpy giant, because she's sick and tired of eating mush all the time. Can the supergardeners help give this giant a green thumb? This fun adventure story is a great way to kick off summer and celebrate vegetables!

The Thief and the Beanstalk
Can a thief save the world beneath his feet from a bone-crunching fate? The book The Thief and the Beanstalk is action packed. Also the author P.W. Catanese explains objects with astounding clarity. This book takes a wile to get started but most of the book has page-turning excitement.

Jack's turn of fortune signals an exciting new direction for Matt Tavares, whose stunning full-color artwork enlivens this classic gift edition. Jack can't seem to do anything useful for his poor mother. He can't even conduct an errand as simple as selling the cow; instead, he trades the beast for a handful of beans. But then, amazingly, those very beans sprout into a towering stalk, elevating Jack to a strange land ruled by a greedy giant. ...

Very entertaining and the illustrations are awesome!
Shaq has a fantastic imagination and it really shows in his new children's book, "Shaq and the Beanstalk"! I felt that Shaq helped to right alot of the wrongs in our old classic fairy tales. For example,he emphasizes that violence is wrong and he reinforces that many times in his book. Shane W. Evans did an awesome job illustrating this book and his colorful and imaginative drawings really ...

Great illustrations, but not the classic story!
Paul Galdone usually does a wonderful job retelling and illustrating fairy tales. Here the illustrations are up to his usual level, but he's changed the story: Jack and his mother are not on the verge of starvation, and once Jack climbs up the beanstalk and the giant falls asleep, Jack simply chops off his head. End of story -- no bags of gold, no sneaking back again, and no climatic chase back ...

Jim and the Beanstalk
The k-3 children from my school loved this book. It is easy to tie it to the original Jack and the Beanstalk and to kinds of measurement. The very young children realized that Jim had to measure the Giant's head with a measruing tape because a ruler couldn't go around it. They had fun measuring each other with standard and non standard measuring tools after they heard the story.

Gotta have it!
We too checked this book out of the library and then just had to buy it! The book is huge, the pictures and gorgeous and very detailed. The descriptions of just exactly how Jack manages to get that huge bag of gold, golden-egg laying hen, and magical harp out of the castle and to the beanstalk are intriguing. My six year old and two year old both love this book. They sit and read it together ...
