Real Internal Martial Arts
Never before have I read a more accessible and realistic writing about internal chinese martial arts. I strongly recommend this book as a must have for martial artists of all styles who seek to understand the subtle development of internal skills that can be applied in external reality. Mythology, Spirituality, and the Afterlife...
This novel is an excellent depiction of what many people already believe comes after we die - a state of being "between" this world and the next, a place that we go after we cast off our mortal coils but before we move on into the spiritual world. Stacy, the main character, is a gifted, if slightly selfish, psychic healer who gets stuck "between" after a terrible car crash. She's not dead, ...
Wynken, Blynken, and Nod (Pudgy Pals)
Grosset & Dunlap
Perfect Picture Book of Field's Classic!
This is an ideal version of Field's classic poem for little ones who adore books with animals. Wynken, Blinken, and Nod are portrayed as bunnies clad in sailor-suits. The pictures are as dreamy as the poem and take us into their sleepy world. These drowsy, drifting bunnies end up in a little girl's room and leave behind some sleepy dust (stars) and she slumbers peacefully. If you absolutely ...
The Grove Centenary Editions of Samuel Beckett Boxed Set: Contains Novels I and II of Samuel Beckett, The ...
Wow! what a treasure trove. My hat is off to Grove Press and Paul Auster for compiling such a necessary volume of Beckett's work. He is without doubt one of the most influential playwrights and critics of the 20th century. Most of us are familiar with "Waiting for Godot," but there is so much more to Beckett and this handsomely bound set of books offers Beckett at his most complete. This is a ...
Mastering Monday: A Guide to Integrating Faith and Work
John D. Beckett
Excellent Perspective for those Struggling with the Marketplace
John Beckett has accurately captured many of the struggles and tensions Christians experience daily in the marketplace. Aspects of the author's journey are common to many Christians. His chapter "Integrating two Worlds" will be a help to any Christian in the marketplace -it is an issue that continually manifests itself. The phrase "I found that my growing faith was often relevant to work ...
A Wonderful Historical & Emotional Memoir
This is a beautifully written and often moving memoir of a woman whose life and career spans several continents, intersects with history at many points, and settles in the profession of medicine in the Midwest, especially the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She was born in pre-Communist China to a foreign service officer in the national government of Chiang Kaishek; grew up in several ...
Nohow On: Company, Ill Seen Ill Said, Worstward Ho: Three Novels
These three novels represent Samuel Beckett's greatest accomplishment. What are they about you might ask? Let's just say that they're about everything and nothing. They are profound commentaries on the universal existential crises plaguing all of mankind, and an utterly fascinating reduction of what it means to be a human. Be forewarned: these novels are extremely modern, abstract works of ...
Derek Jeter : A Yankee for the New Millennium
Derek Jeter--A Role Model in Pinstripes
As the author of four books on young adolescents (including The Roller-Coaster Years and Parenting 911), I am thrilled to have a positive role model for children. Derek Jeter's behavior on and off the field can inspire young people, even those who are not Yankee fans. He is always respectful. (I understand he still calls Joe Torre, "Mr." Torre). When the rest of the team brawled with the ...
Was a birthday present
I got this book from my wife as a birthday present, and immediately sat down and read it cover to cover. I knew a lot of the info in the book already, having been a Bronco fan since 1972, but it did refresh a lot of old (and somewhat painful) memories. I feel this book is a "must have" for any Bronco/Elway fan.
Molloy: A novel (Collected works of Samuel Beckett)
Joyce is Smarter, Beckett's Deeper (?)
I recently heard Cornell West, a Princeton professor, say during a talk that he would take Chekov over Beckett any day. "Chekov's deeper--Beckett's smarter," he said. Perhaps true (though I don't really know how he's thinking about it). But I tend to think Beckett is both DEEP and SMART. So in terms of the "greatest novel of the 20th century," I pick this one. Ulysses is sprawling, difficult, ...
Dale Earnhardt Jr.: The Driving Force Of A New Generation
If you are a Dale Earnhardt Jr. fan, this book is for you! I have read this one and loved it. The pictures are wonderfully done. And believe me there are lots of them! The interviews and insights are great. You will love this book!
Sirens: A Book of Illustrations by One of the World's Great Illustrators
A superlative collection of fantasy art
My favorite collection of Chris Achilleos' work borrows the title from the painting on the cover titled "A siren's remorse". This image of a siren (mythological creature similar to a mermaid that uses it's voice to lure sailors to their death) cradling the bloated body of dead sailor depicts the agony and frustration of this beautiful creature as it struggles to fight back the tears. This book ...
How It Was: A Memoir of Samuel Beckett
A must for Beckett fans!
This memoir is what we hope for. Lots of new information, inside anecdotes, and pictures. If you love Beckett you must have this book. I would've gone without meals to buy it, if necessary. Also be sure to buy Why Beckett, by Enoch Brater. It is magical.
Anne Geddes is the cream of the crop!
I just love this and all the Anne Geddes books. They're fun for the whole family. The colorful pictures really capture my children's attention and make learning fun. It's also great just to look at all of those cute babies if you're the parent. An all-around entertaining and valuable resource!

The Sports Art of Bart Forbes
For the person who appreciates the color of sports
This book not only shows the artist of Mr.Forbes but it is a walk through the heros of every sports during the last 30 years. You will immediately recognize the players (my grandchildern did) or the sport being profiled in a way that captures the grace of the participants and the color of the arena. Mr.Forbes gives his comments along side many of the pieces so you have more than just a ...
First Love and Other Shorts
The Grove Press
There are few short stories that leave one feeling satisfied. Fortunately, this is not one of them. It has been ages since I read it, but I cannot help but recall the feeling it evoked. All in all, love fails us. All in all, we fail to tell well of the process by which it fails us. Beckett fails better than us all. God bless you, Sam, for always pointing us toward the unutterable. The ...
The Turing Test
Great short stories - Twilight Zone x Dubliners x P.K. Dick
This is the best book I've read in quite a while. I ordered his other two books from Amazon before I finished it. These aren't Hard SF techno stories. They deal with identity, reality, and paranoia. Philip K Dick like themes. The difference is these stories are wonderfully written (no one ever accused Dick of being a prose stylist) and focus more on the human reaction artificial or alien ...
Essence of Prayer: Foreword by Sister Wendy Beckett
Ruth Burrows Ocd
Burns & Oates
A MUCH NEEDED REMINDER FROM ONE WHO SHOULD KNOW
This book is a collection of 19 articles, 13 of which have been previously published but have here for the first time been conveniently gathered. Despite the disparate and repetitive nature of such a collection, there is an underlying unity, and important things bear repetition. The first half of the book concerns the nature of prayer, the second half Carmelite history and the spirituality of ...
Dan Marino: The Making of a Legend
Dan Is And Always Will Be The Man
I must admit that I am the biggest Dan Marino fan of all time, so I read this book with a little bias. However, Beckett Publications always produce good books. This book is extremely well written, and there are tons of super pictures, many of which, I had never seen. Instead of having one storyline from start to finish, this book uses several authors, many of whom are well-recognizable to ...
