Great tips for amateur photographers
Quick tips, not so much theory as many other photography books, makes you feel by reading "The digital photography book" as if you were attending a seminar; where what students are looking forward to hearing is "how this shot was taken" or "what to do" in a certain situation. I admit I didn't appreaciate much Scott Kelby's sense of humour but this book gave me a push to take much better photos ...

Books changed everything
Ten years ago, my son was struggling in first grade phonics program. He was performing below grade average on their phonics readers in class. I knew he had issues with auditory stuff that might explain some of the difficulties. I wanted to teach him using sight word methodology, but it was competing with the school's lessons and confusing. He could sound out stuff, but couldn't seem to stick ...

A Bedtime Favorite
This book (like many Dr Seuss Books) is a favorite bedtime read and it is one that seems to have been memorized quickly and one that started my child reading. The other books also helped, but One Fish Two Fish was one of the first where following along, and counting, started to show. Of course it is a great book in its own right and will bring back many memories to so many parents.

Another Great Fancy Nancy Book
My seven-year-old granddaughter loves Fancy Nancy books. This one is a particular favorite of hers. We both love the words and pictures. I like the way the author teaches children new words.

Fun reading and teaches a lesson
Despite all the negative reviews, I think the series is great. After reading the other reviews, particulary the most popular negative review, I would have to say that, "No, you just don't get it." The majority of the negative complaints are based on the grammar and the name calling and all the time these other parents have to spend talking with their little ones about how it's wrong to call ...

Love these books
I checked this kit out from the library before buying. We used the ones from the library over and over again so I bought them. I intended to use them with my five year old and she loved them. I was pleasantly surprised when my three year old starting reading from them. They words to read in the books follow a gradual progression and my girls loved reading a book, "all by themselves."

Great for Beginners -- Who Always Struggle with Building Vocabulary
This book is compact, with well chosen vocabulary. He has recognized the need to learn a word and fix it in memory by using it in a sentence and has provided the English translations to reinforce it. You couldn't ask for more in a book designed to build vocabulary. As a professor of Spanish with 30 years of experience, I have accumulated a lot of hints for building vocabulary. One is to get a ...

Our household enjoys our time reading Junie B.
Reading these books has become a time to bond with my child. We enjoy reading together. I questioned the effects on my child's reading and writing abilities from reading books that would include poor grammar and at times poor behavior on Junie's behalf. However, I felt that this was a great opportunity to discuss the appropriate behavior and learn from the experience with my daughter, who is ...

Bob books : Set 1 - Set 3
We started with Bob book series when my 3 year old daughter was comfortable with zoophonics. These books are easy way to get her into reading with the illustrated hilarious pictures. The series gradually challenges and encourages her to make the blends and endings of sounds in each 3 or 4 letter word. As a reward, she gets to color the page as soon as she finishes reading the single line page.

Great book, even for very little ones
My 20-month-old daughter LOVES this book. The illustrations are very colorful, not too busy and feature lots of kids and animals. The concepts are easy for her to relate to (i.e. "my grandma gives the best hugs" and "I am thankful for bright sunny days when I can play with my friends"). Our favorite Thanksgiving book by far!

The Magical World of Dr. Seuss
I learned to read with the dull and predictable Dick, Jane and Sally books. And Spot. I mustn't forget Spot. Then one day I got my hands on The Cat in the Hat and reading changed for me forever. It became fun, lively and whimsical. In short, magical. And that's how it's been for me ever since. I couldn't read enough Dr. Seuss as a kid, and as a parent, of course I shared all his books with my own ...

A timeless masterpiece for children of all ages
Horton Hears a Who is a masterpiece. Often heralded as a book on friendship, it is much more than that. Theodor Seuss Geisel was an outspoken critic of Hitler and Mussolini, and Horton Hears a Who has been said to have been Geisel's call to support the fledgling democracy in Japan after World War II. But Horton is much more than that. Horton Hears a Who is a reminder of the importance of ...
